Omkonstruktion av justerskruv i expanderbar duschstång / Redesign of adjustable screw in expandable shower rod

Ryttman, Tobias, Tillaéus, Nathalie January 2019 (has links)
This bachelor degree project in integrated product development was carried out at the University of Skövde in collaboration with Ericsindustrier in Töreboda. The report describes the methodology and the process that has been carried out in the project to achieve all the stated objectives. The scope was determined to be a redesign of an adjusting screw placed in an expandable shower rod. The shower rod is considered an important part of Ericsindustrier's product range. The reason for the need of a reconstruction was the number of components and the components assembly. The component number was required to be minimized by using DFx principles where the same material was sought throughout the product. Decreased quality and lower durability were defined as critical areas since Ericsindustrier wanted to maintain customer satisfaction and the product must hold for at least 200 N after the redesign. A five-stage model formed the basis of the project structure where the design process began with a preliminary study. The focus was on information gathering, observations and mapping of the current situation. The generation phase was imbued with methodology to explore solution space. This included, among other things, brainstorming, morphological matrix and sketching. In the project, prototypes had a great impact as they functioned as both generation and evaluation of solutions. They have also acted as communication with companies and users throughout the process. Iterations have characterized the whole process to achieve a product development. In order to maintain a user-centred design, the project included several user tests. The feet of the shower rod and the two pipes that form the shower rod itself were identified as separate problems. These issues have been discussed with the company. Concept selection was carried out according to the wishes of the company, tests, DFx principles and discussions until it ended in a final concept. This concept met the required requirements and needs. Therefore, it was an affordable, high quality and environmentally friendly product.

Self-lubricating non-cyanide silver-polytetrafluoroethylene composite coating for threaded compression fittings

Sieh, Raymond January 2017 (has links)
Silver is a precious metal that has traditionally been used for jewellery and money. It also possesses desirable properties such as being corrosion resistant and having good electrical conductivity, resulting in its use for industrial applications. Furthermore, it is also recognised for its tribological properties in non-cost prohibitive applications. Silver can be used as a surface coating and can be deposited using an electroplating process. The utilisation of silver as a surface coating is advantageous and sustainable, as the substrate material properties are enhanced while usage of silver is kept to a minimum. On the other hand, electroplating has been used for over a century. It is a process which is able to produce a layer of uniform and dense coating that adheres well to the substrate metal, thus modifying the properties of the substrate. It benefits from being relatively low cost and is scalable. Silver is electroplated onto stainless steel threaded compression fittings to prevent galling. Traditional silver electroplating, which contains the use of cyanide as a complexing agent in the electroplating bath, is still in use within industry, even to this day. Cyanide, in its various forms can be poisonous, toxic and even lethal, which presents a risk during the silver electroplating process. Furthermore, the toxic wastes created during the cyanide silver electroplating process are detrimental to the environment. The aim of this work is to develop a self-lubricating non-cyanide silver PTFE composite coating suitable for use in threaded compression fittings of the ferruled type. The composite can be considered self-lubricating when a concentration of 8% or more by volume of the self-lubricating PTFE substance is incorporated. My original contribution to knowledge is firstly the successful development and characterisation of a self-lubricating non-cynanide Ag-PTFE coating on stainless steel without a strike resulting in improved CoF of 0.06 from the CoF of 0.6 based on an unlubricated surface. Secondly is the application of a non-cyanide Ag-PTFE MMC for threaded compression fittings. Thirdly is the characterisation of the make-up process of threaded compression fittings through the proposed use of the torque-angle slope in assessing coating performance for threaded compression fittings during make-up. Conclusions that can be drawn for the work are that the performance non-cyanide Ag-PTFE coating exceeded the performance of the pure Ag coating made using the same non-cyanide process. Moreover, the performance of the Ag-PTFE coating shows promising results when compared to the performance of the commercial silver cyanide coating. As a viable replacement to the current silver cyanide process, the self-lubricating non-cyanide Ag-PTFE coating, will improve the working conditions and have a positive contribution to the environment. Moreover, a thinner coating with has the potential to reduce raw material usage and electroplating waste disposal costs.

Analýza vlastností výplní otvorů vzhledem k infiltraci ve stavbách / Analysis of properties of openings with respect to infiltration in buildings

Zapletal, Miroslav January 2020 (has links)
The dissertation thesis is primarily focused on the analysis of the properties of openings constructions with respect to infiltration in constructions, specifically related to the permeability of opening fillings and the permeability of buildings. The main aim of this work is to find out how the overall air permeability of a building can be influenced in relation to the openings and their properties, which are related specifically to the air permeability at the specified tightening degree of the used all-round fitting. In relation to the overall air permeability of the building, the energy balance of a particular building will be calculated in cooperation with the determined results of the air permeability of the building at a defined degree of tightening of used all-round fitting at levels 0%, 50% and 100%. The results of tests and measurements will be reflected in a concrete calculation of the energy balance of the assessed building in the form of numerical simulation.

Energy Losses in Cross Junctions

Sharp, Zachary B., Rahmeyer, William J. 01 May 2009 (has links)
Solving for energy losses in pipe junctions has been a focus of study for many years. Although pipe junctions and fittings are at times considered "minor losses" in relation to other energy losses in a pipe network, there are cases where disregarding such losses in flow calculations will lead to errors. To facilitate these calculations, energy loss coefficients (K-factors) are commonly used to obtain energy losses for elbows, tees, crosses, valves, and other pipe fittings. When accurate K-factors are used, the flow rate and corresponding energy at any location in a pipe network can be calculated. K-factors are well defined for most pipe junctions and fittings; however, the literature documents no complete listings of K-factors for crosses. This study was commissioned to determine the K-factors for a wide range of flow combinations in a single pipe cross and the results provide information previously unavailable to compute energy losses associated with crosses. To obtain the loss coefficients, experimental data were collected in which the flow distribution in each of the four cross legs was varied to quantify the influence of velocity and flow distribution on head loss. For each data point the appropriate K-factors were calculated, resulting in over one thousand experimental K-factors that can be used in the design and analysis of piping systems containing crosses.

Documentation and analysis of millwork: a method for mapping the evolution of Solitude

Ballard, Aleta Sue 05 September 2009 (has links)
Solitude, a nineteenth century farmhouse and historic landmark, located on the campus of Virginia Tech is currently slated for preservation. The purpose of this study was to trace the architectural history of the farmhouse and adjacent outbuilding through its existing mill work, hardware, and other architectural features. Eighteenth and nineteenth century architectural pattern books and the knowledge of architectural historians were used to date the interior millwork and hardware in this building. The millwork and hardware produced evidence of at least three distinct design periods. To determine if mill work and hardware dates supported the approximate construction dates commonly thought accurate for the three major sections of this building. The 1801 and 1834 sections of the house exhibit Federal style. Greek Revival dominates the 1851 section, as well as the renovated 1801 section, and the later additions exhibit Victorian style details. The adjacent log and frame outbuilding contained mill work that mixed Federal and Greek Revival elements. Using this information, along with information obtained from researchers who previously studied Solitude, a sequence of floor plans was developed. These plans show the evolution of the house through two major additions, as well as three smaller ones. The evolution of the outbuilding was also noted. / Master of Science

Tejkl, Michal January 2021 (has links)
The subject of this diploma thesis is the design of a single-purpose machine for automatic testing of pneumatic fittings. Pneumatic fittings used in brake systems are subject to high technical requirements and 100% tightness control in production. In this case, manual testing is not effective and the goal is to automate the process. The theoretical part presents pneumatic mechanisms, analysis of the tested pneumatic fitting with technical parameters, the possibility of tightness testing, use of sensors, and rotary tables. In the practical part, a systematic analysis of the problem was performed, according to which the overall design proceeded. Subsequently, the design of the complete machine containing individual nodes is processed, supplemented by the necessary calculations. The conclusion of the thesis contains an evaluation of the whole project.
