Evaluating The Economic Benefits Of Environmental Improvements In Gocek Bay Using Choice Experiment Method

Can, Ozge 01 February 2012 (has links) (PDF)
Being one of the specially protected areas declared by General Directorate of Natural Assets Protection, G&ouml / cek Bay is threatened by increasing boat tourism and insufficient legal practices. Large scale measures are being planned for decreasing the pollution and protecting the region. For a sustainable coastal management, technical, social, political and economic tools are needed to be used. For environmental investments, it is necessary that they should be identified in monetary terms. The aim of this study is to determine the benefits and costs of the management alternatives to improve environmental quality in G&ouml / cek Bay to aid decision makers. In the study, the environmental benefits that can be obtained with improved water quality and restated marine ecosystem was calculated using the Choice Experiment Method. Data analyses are made using Multinomial Logit analysis. The results showed that, for improvements in water quality local residents are willing to pay 18 TL/month and tourists are willing to pay 16.6 TL/tour. For improvements in marine life local residents are willing to pay 14.8 TL/month and tourists are willing to pay 11.2 TL/tour. The total value that can be obtained from these stakeholders is calculated as 751,140 TL/year. This amount enables the investments to amortize themselves in 21 years. With this study, it has been seen that the obtained results will pave the way for new policies and measures against the deterioration of the marine environment of G&ouml / cek.

Godel Spacetime

Kavuk, Mehmet 01 August 2005 (has links) (PDF)
In this thesis properties of the G&ouml / del spacetime are analyzed and it is explicitly shown that there exist closed timelike curves in this spacetime. Geodesic motions for massive particles and light rays are investigated. One observes the focusing effect as a result of the solution of the geodesic equations. The time it takes for a free particle released from a point to come back to its starting point is calculated. A geometrical interpretation of the G&ouml / del spacetime is given and the question of what the G&ouml / del spacetime looks like is answered.

Friedrich List, Ziya Gokalp And The National Economy Thesis In The Ottoman Empire

Unal, Huseyin Safa 01 February 2013 (has links) (PDF)
This study compares the National Economy concept as it is employed in Friedrich List&rsquo / s works with its theoretical reflections among Ottoman intelligentsia, particularly in Ziya G&ouml / kalp. The effects of National Economy on the Ottoman thought is examined by bearing in mind two journals: T&uuml / rk Yurdu and Iktisadiyat Mecmuasi. The field of application of National Economy is explicated by an analysis of the first steps towards industrialization, especially after the Young Turk Revolution of 1908. It attempts to find answers to the questions as to how and to what degree the theoretical development of National Economy affected the Ottoman economic policies implemented.

A Study On Dam Instrumentation Retrofitting: Gokcekaya Dam

Ari, Onur 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Multi-purpose project requirements lead to construction of large dams. In order to maintain the desired safety level of such dams, comprehensive inspections based on use of a number of precise instruments are needed. The ideal dam instrumentation system should provide time-dependent information about critical parameters so that possible future behavior of the structure can be predicted. New dams are normally equipped with adequate instrumentation systems. Most of the existing dams, however, do not have adequate instruments or current instrumentation systems may not be in good condition. By implementing the modern equipment to existing dams, the uncertainty associated with the impacts of aging or unexpected severe external events will be reduced and possible remedial measures can be taken accordingly. This study summarizes the major causes of dam failures and introduces the instruments to be used to monitor the key parameters of a dam. The concept of the instrument retrofitting to an unmonitored dam is highlighted through a case study. A sample system is proposed for G&ouml / k&ccedil / ekaya Dam, with reference to an investigation of the current condition of the structure. The deficiencies observed during a site visit are listed and the corresponding rehabilitative repair measures are suggested. Finally, different alternatives of a new instrumentation system are introduced and compared in terms of technical and economical aspects.

Evaluation Of Concrete Face Rockfill Alternative For Dam Type Selection: A Case Study On Gokceler Dam

Korkmaz, Seda - 01 June 2009 (has links) (PDF)
In this study a recent dam type, concrete face rockfill dam (CFRD), its design and behaviour is overviewed. The design features of G&ouml / k&ccedil / eler Dam are introduced as a case study. Selection of concrete face rockfill type for G&ouml / k&ccedil / eler Dam Project is discussed together with the other two alternatives, namely earth core rockfill (ECRD) and roller compacted concrete (RCC) dam. G&ouml / k&ccedil / eler Dam type selection as concrete face rockfill dam is also verified by an economic analysis conducted calculating internal rate of return for all alternative types. In cost analysis a currency independent defined unit cost (DUC) is specified to verify the time independent validity of the economic analysis.

Nickel Resource Estimation And Reconciliation At Turkmencardagi Laterite Deposits

Gencturk, Bilgehan 01 September 2012 (has links) (PDF)
In recent years nickel is mostly produced from lateritic ore deposits such as nontronite, limonite, etc. Resource estimation is difficult for laterite deposits as they have a weak and heterogeneous form. 3D modeling software are rather suitable for deposits having tabular or vein type ores. In this study the most appropriate estimation technique for resource estimation of nickel laterite deposits was investigated. One of the known nickel laterite deposits in Turkey is located at T&uuml / rkmen&ccedil / ardagi - G&ouml / rdes region. Since the nickel (Ni) grade recovered from drilling studies seem to be very low, a reconciliation pit having dimensions of 40 m x 40 m x 15 m in x-y-z directions was planned by Meta Nikel Kobalt Mining Company (META), the license owner of the mine, to produce nickel ore. 13 core drilling and 13 reverse circulation drilling (RC) and 26 column samplings adjacent to each drillholes were located in this area. Those three sampling results were compared to each other and as well as the actual production values obtained from reconciliation pit. On the other side 3D computer modeling was also used to model the nickel resource in T&uuml / rkmen&ccedil / ardagi - G&ouml / rdes laterites. The results obtained from both inverse distance weighting and kriging methods were compared to the results of actual production to find out the applicability of 3D modeling to laterite deposits. Modeling results showed that Ni grade of the reconciliation pit in T&uuml / rkmen&ccedil / ardagi - G&ouml / rdes, considering 0.5% Ni cut-off value, by using drillholes data, inverse distance weighting method estimates 622 tonnes with 0.553% Ni and kriging method estimates 749 tonnes with 0.527% Ni. The actual production pit results provided 4,882 tonnes of nickel ore with 0.649% Ni grade. These results show that grade values seem to be acceptable but in terms of tonnage, there are significant differences between theoretical estimated values and production values.
