Hypermedia for prototyping and system integration in information systems development

Gardner, Lesley Ann January 1991 (has links)
This thesis investigates information systems development with special regard to the area of Geographical Information Systems. It addresses the area through the investigation of the software life-cycle development model and its augmentation by the use of prototyping. Observations are made on empirical experiments conducted to assess the usefulness of the new techniques of hypertext and hypermedia and their suitability within this field of study. This investigation is complemented by a case study, the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Authority. The Norfolk and Suffolk Broads are designated by statute with similar status to the National Parks of Great Britain, and are managed by the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Authority. Through cooperation with the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Authority, a prototype information system was created. This system makes use of geographical data from the Broads Authority. The development stages of this system were used to conduct experiments for this thesis. The tools and techniques used for the development of this system are described. These include a hypertext tool called FIELD (Fully Integrated Environment for Layered Development) which has been especially designed for the complete storage of all information for each stage throughout this development. The use of this tool and hypertext for the development of the geographically based information system for the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads Authority are discussed.

Application of space time concept in GIS for visualizing and analyzing travel survey data

Lu, Xiaoyun 04 December 2013 (has links)
The classic time geography concept (space-time path) provides a powerful framework to study travel survey data which is an important source for travel behavior studies. Based on the space-time concept, this research will present a visualizing approach to analyze travel survey data. By inputting the data into GIS software such as TransCAD and ArcGIS and editing the needed information, this study will explain how to create 3D images of travel paths for showing the variation of trip distribution in relation to different social-economic factors deemed as the driving forces of such patterns. Also, this report will address the technical challenges involved in this kind of study and will discuss directions of future research. / text

With the support of GIS software ArcGIS, crossed crime data with demographic and criminal, such as drug dealing, drug dealing association, color / race, gender and income of the population. The chosen crimes against the person were intentional homicide, manslaughter, bodily injury followed by death and robbery (the latter being a crime against property). At the end, you can see the rapid growth of violence in the city of Goiânia, as well as the most prominent criminal neighborhoods, and its correlation with the demographic variables / O presente trabalho buscou fazer um mapeamento, por bairros de Goiânia, dos crimes contra a pessoa registrados no período de 2010 a 2014.
