Naujos „kaspino” paradigmos Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajoje tyrimas / Investigation of the new “Ribbon” paradigm in Office 2007 user interface

Remeika, Igoris 24 September 2008 (has links)
Magistrinio darbo tema „Naujos „kaspino” paradigmos Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajoje tyrimas”. Pagrindinis darbo tikslas yra ištirti naująsias „kaspino” paradigmas Microsoft Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajoje. Darbą sudaro penkios dalys. Pirmojoje dalyje yra apžvelgiamos šiuolaikinės Microsoft Office vartotojo sąsajos ištakos. Antroji dalis skirta Office vartotojo sąsajos raidai. Čia apžvelgiama kaip keitėsi vartotojo sąsaja Office programose, kokie buvo priimami sprendimai vartotojo sąsajos efektyvumui užtikrinti bei naudojamumui didinti. Naujosios Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajos tyrimui yra skirta trečioji dalis, kurioje apžvelgiami nauji sąsajos elementai bei jų įtaka vartotojo darbui. Ketvirtojoje dalyje, konkrečių uždavinių pagalba, yra lyginamas Office 2003 bei Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajų efektyvumas. Darbe buvo tiriamas naujosios Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajos efektyvumas. Tyrime buvo lyginamas Microsoft Office 2003 bei Office 2007 vartotojo sąsajų efektyvumas bei siekiama išsiaiškinti, kuri vartotojo sąsaja yra efektyvesnė. Sąsajų tyrimo metu buvo atliekamos konkrečios užduotys: nukopijuoto teksto įterpimas (komanda Paste), pasirinkto žodžio paryškinimas (komanda Bold), lentelės įterpimas bei piešimas (Insert/Draw Table), grafiko įterpimas bei grafinės objektų apipavidalinimo galimybės. Tyrimo metu pagrindinis efektyvumo kriterijus buvo užduoties atlikimo laikas, kadangi esminis naujojo kaspino sąsajos naudojamumo principas yra galimybė vartotojui užduotį atlikti greičiau... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / The topic of the master thesis is „Investigation of the new “Ribbon” paradigm in Office 2007 user interface”. The main goal is to explore new paradigm in Office 2007 user interface. The thesis consists of five main parts. The first part is a review of evolution of Microsoft Office user interface. The second part is dedicated to the development of Office user interface. It is aimed to overview the changes in user interface in the programmes of Office and decisions ever taken to ensure efficiency and increase usability. The research of the new Office 2007 user interface is provided in the third part of the paper, which also overviews new elements of the interface and discusses their influence to activities of users. With the help of the practical tasks, the fourth section of the thesis compares user interface efficiency of Office 2003 and Office 2007. Efficiency of the new Office 2007 user interface is being investigated in the paper. The efficiency of Microsoft 2003 and Office 2007 user interfaces was compared, and it was aimed to find out which interface is more efficient. While doing the research, certain tasks, such as copy-paste, bold, insert or draw table, and insert chart, were executed. The main criterion of efficiency was the time period spent for executing certain tasks as the main principle of usability of the new ribbon interface is its ability to proceed the commands quicker. The time of command fulfillment was counted in both (Office 2003 and Office 2007) user... [to full text]

Bad Behaviour: The Prevention of Usability Problems Using GSE Models

Crawford, Alistair, n/a January 2006 (has links)
The aim of Human Computer Interaction or HCI is to both understand and improve the quality of the users' experience with the systems and technology they interact with. Recent HCI research requirements have stated a need for a unified predictive approach to system design that consolidates system engineering, cognitive modelling, and design principles into a single 'total system approach.' At present, few methods seek to integrate all three of these aspects into a single method and of those that do many are extensions to existing engineering techniques. This thesis, however proposes a new behaviour based approach designed to identify usability problems early in the design process before testing the system with actual users. In order to address the research requirements, this model uses a new design notation called Genetic Software Engineering (GSE) in conjunction with aspects of a cognitive modelling technique called NGOMSL (Natural GOMS Language) as the basis for this approach. GSE's behaviour tree notation, and NGOMSL's goal orientated format are integrated using a set of simple conversion rules defined in this study. Several well established design principles, believed to contribute to the eventual usability of a product, are then modelled in GSE. This thesis addresses the design of simple interfaces and the design of complex ubiquitous technology. The new GSE approach is used to model and predict usability problems in an extensive range of tasks from programming a VCR to making a video recording on a modern mobile phone. The validity of these findings is tested against actual user tests on the same tasks and devices to demonstrate the effectiveness of the GSE approach. Ultimately, the aim of the study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new cognitive and engineering based approach at predicting usability problems based on tangible representations of established design principles. This both fulfils the MCI research requirements for a 'total system approach' and establishes a new and novel approach to user interface and system design.

Etude de l'usage de la parole dans les interfaces multimodales

Catinis, Lian 27 January 1998 (has links) (PDF)

Usable Security using GOMS: A Study to Evaluate and Compare the Usability of User Accounts on E-Government Websites

Din, Amran 01 April 2015 (has links)
The term e-Government refers to providing citizens a series of services that can be conveniently conducted over the Internet. However, the potential to redefine and transform e-Government increasingly relies on citizens successfully establishing and managing a user account profile online. E-Government has not adequately addressed user-centric designs for social inclusion of all citizens on e-Government websites. There is a lack of research on the usability of user account management, and a clear lack of innovation in incorporating user-friendly authentication interfaces to accommodate a diverse user population given the wealth of existing research in web authentication techniques within Identity Management. The problem is e-Government has no standardized approach to evaluate and compare the usability of user account interfaces to accommodate a diverse user population and encourage improvements in making user account interfaces more user-friendly and accessible to citizens online. This study proposed extending a well-established usability evaluation methodology called GOMS to evaluate e-Government security interfaces for usability. GOMS, which comprises of Goals, Operations, Methods, and Selection, was used to compare the task time users took to complete similar goals on different websites. GOMS was extended to include Security Cases, which are security related goals users desire to accomplish along with the selected link and trail necessary to satisfy those goals. An observational study was conducted to capture the task time 31 users took to complete similar Security Cases on three popular e-Government websites (DMV.CA.gov, HealthCare.gov, and USPS.com). The study initially defined a catalog of six Security Cases specific to user account management and then established benchmark time predictions for each of the Security Cases using CogTool. The six Security Cases selected were as follows: Registration, Login, Change Settings, Forgot Password, Change Password, and Logout. The task time to complete each of the six Security Case on the three websites, along with statistical analysis and CogTool’s benchmark time predications, were used to quantify and compare the usability of these three websites. In order to capture demographic data and assess participant’s satisfaction using the website, the study conducted a post evaluation survey using the System Usability Scale (SUS). The survey captured age, gender, education, user satisfaction, and computer/security knowledge for each participant to assess design considerations to accommodate a diverse population. Finally, a library of Security Cases was established to compare and highlight the more effective user account interface designs on the three selected e-Government websites. This study found task time data from similar Security Cases could be categorized and used to successfully compare and highlight more effective user account interface designs. The study revealed gender and education had no distinctions in task time when performing user account management related tasks. The study also revealed seniors took significantly longer than any other age group to complete complex user account management interfaces. Additionally, CogTool did not prove to be effective in establishing reliable task time predictions to establish as benchmarks. The study concluded the GOMS method could successfully be used to establish a set of task time metrics in a catalog of Security Cases that can be used to evaluate and compare the usability of user account interfaces to accommodate a diverse user population on e-Government websites. Future usability research should be conducted to evaluate if there is a performance relationship between age and security interface complexity. Future research should also further evaluate GOMS as a viable methodology to evaluate other security interfaces not limited to e-Government and expand upon the library of Security Cases to highlight effective security interfaces designs on other websites to accommodate a diverse user population.

User experience in automotive industry: user perspective on functionality and entertainment

Papadaki, Patricia January 2019 (has links)
The impact of technology is increasing in the automotive industry resulting in user experience to have a significant role in the industry. Previous studies have researched the use of user experience in the automotive industry describing the importance of it. Studies have also described the user experience in connection to in-vehicle functions. Contrariwise, a gap has been identified in relation to the actual use and users’ preferences to these functions. The aim of this study is to analyze the users’ perspective in the automotive industry and how a high level of user experience can be achieved by identifying the preference of the users. This paper aims to identify if functions related to entertainment or functions related to functionality are preferred by the users. It is important to note that the study is not excluding any of the two different type of functions but investigates the preference of the users. Mixed method was used to respond to the research question. Two interviews with experts of the domain of automotive were conducted, where important aspects of the experts’ perspective were covered and was used to develop the survey. In order to achieve a full understanding of the user experience, a survey was sent to identify users’ preferences. The study proved user experience to be important for the organizations in the automotive industry. Moreover, it discovered a discrepancy between the experts’ perspective and the users’ perceptions. Experts expressed customer satisfactions and fulfillment of their demands to be of the primary aim of organizations in the automotive industry. Contrariwise, users expressed that organizations may consider the preference of the users but only to achieve economic and concurrent benefits. Additionally, users expressed a preference to in-vehicle functions related to functionality. More specifically, in-vehicle functions in relation to safety, connectivity and assistance in driving. As a result, this study suggests for organizations in the automotive industry to include the above functions to their vehicles in order to satisfy the demands of their customers and achieve high level of user experience but not exclude the functions related to entertainment.
