Half-Wavelength Loop Antenna for Mobile PhonesChiu, Ching-Yuan 07 June 2004 (has links)
In this thesis we introduce a half-wavelength loop antenna for operation as an internal antenna for mobile phones. First, we introduce a single loop antenna for single-band operation (eg., UMTS band), and experimental and simulated results are presented. Next, we introduce a dual-band loop structure which covers the operating bandwidths of the GSM/DCS dual-band mobile phone. The proposed dual-loop antenna is studied, especially for the effects between the two loops of the antenna. Both of the single-loop and dual-loop antennas have the characteristics of generating similar surface currents on the ground plane with that of the conventional monopole and planar inverted-F mobile phone antennas.

The Design and Implementation of Vehicle Trajectory Management¡GSoftware/Hardware Co-design of a GPS/GSM Embeded SystemJiang, Jian-Hao 06 July 2005 (has links)
As the technology of SOC has greatly improved and man want much more powerful mobile device, the invention of multi-task device for vehicle are predictable. This theme contains integration of GPS and GSM/GPRS, using a ARM7-core embedded platform functioning wireless communication and global positioning, and also taking advantage of the open-source uClinux to accomplish the multi-task monitoring & burglarproof system for vehicle. Moreover, we design a server end for multi-user to monitor and to remote control vehicles online. Combined with e-map system sold in the market, we can monitor all mobile devices any time, anywhere. We also implement this as a value added service for cellular phone to make it more than a communication or multimedia device. Due to the high cell phone possession rate in Taiwan, we can easily construct a system to monitor and to control our lovely car by cell phone, without extra effort and additional hardware.

Cell Base Automatic Location Identification System in GSMHsu, Feng-Wei 04 August 2000 (has links)
Due to the availability of the cellular phone, PCS (Personal Communication Service) has become wildly popular world-wide [1], and the number of the PCS users has quickly grown beyond what anyone had imagined. As its name indicates, mobility is the most remarkable feature of a cellular phone. On the other hand, that means it is difficult to determine the location of the PCS users. The proficiency to determine the geographical position of a cellular phone users have become increasingly important. One main reason for this service is the use of mobile phones for emergency calls, which is expected to grow quickly in the near future. For emergency assistance via 911 (Emergency 911, E-911), the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has now required that system operators of mobile communications networks be able to accurately locate mobile callers before year 2001. There has been a lot of ongoing research examining cellular positioning options among cellular and PCS providers. Most location approaches require measurements at multiple receiving stations or need supports from base stations.
Our main proposal in this paper is a new approach to enhance the performance of wireless position location through a single cellular phone. This method has the following two features: First, it does not require any modification to the current GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) architecture, that is, it does not increase network traffic. Second, the location identifications is performed on the mobile end, which does not increase computation load of the network system. Hence, the quantity of self-location cellular phones which can be supported by GSM system has no upper limit. In this sense, we would say that Cell Base Automatic Location Identification System is a method worthy of further exploration. Meanwhile, this technique could be applied on the other domains, such as electron-map, local resource detected, newfangled chat room, controlling caller¡¦s location, etc.
The intention of this paper is to introduce innovation uses single cellular phone to implement ALI (Automatic Location Identification) system. The whole issue determining the TA (Timing Advance) between the MS (Mobile Station) and the BTS (Base Transference Station) as well as coupling the calculated distance with the determined direction of the BTS signal so as to calculate the location of the MS. To counter the inaccuracies of the ALI system, we offer a force-handover subfunction. Even though one or more force-handovers increase the accuracy, the cost is extra time overhead.
In our location system, we implement two applications to determine the reliability of any ALI system information. They are Wireless Signed System and Resources Information Searching System.

Investigation of Automated Terminal Interoperability Test / Undersökning av automatiserad interoperabilitetstest av mobila terminalerBrammer, Niklas January 2008 (has links)
<p>In order to develop and secure the functionality of its cellular communications systems, Ericsson deals with numerous R&D and I&V activities. One important aspect is interoperability with mobile terminals from different vendors on the world market. Therefore Ericsson co-operates with mobile platform and user equipment manufacturers. These companies visit the interoperability developmental testing (IoDT) laboratories in Linköping to test their developmental products and prototypes in order to certify compliance with Ericsson's products. The knowledge exchange is mutual, Ericsson as well as the user equipment manufacturers benefit from the co-operation.</p><p>The goal of this master's thesis performed at Ericsson AB is to suggest areas in which the IoDT testing can be automated in order to minimize time consuming and tedious work tasks. Primarily the search should be aimed at replacing manual tasks in use today.</p><p>The thesis suggests a number of IoDT tasks that might be subject for automation. Among these one is chosen for implementation. The thesis also includes an implementation part. The task that has been chosen for implementation is the network verification after base station controller software upgrade procedure. This is not a core IoDT function but it implies a lot of work, and is often performed.</p><p>The automation project is also supposed to act as a springboard for future automation within IoDT. The forthcoming LTE standard will require a lot of IoDT testing, and therefore the automation capabilities should be investigated. The thesis shows that automation work is possible, and that the startup process is straightforward. Existing tools are easy to use, and well supported. The network verification automated test scope has been successful.</p>

During the last decades, wireless propagation and transmission of data, is a scientific field
which grows up rapidly, due to several major advantages of wireless telecommunications, such as
the lack of wired connections and the opportunity to provide telecommunication services to users
who are not static. Specifically, the field of mobile telecommunications, examines communication
between users who are possibly moving, through mobile equipment which consists of an antenna,
software and memory.
The continuous optimization of mobile telecommunication's systems is an enduring bet for
telecommunication engineers. The development of increasingly efficient systems is needed so that
we can exploit in the best way our limited available spectrum, while at the same time we are trying
to fulfill three other major targets: minimize interference, optimize quality of service, increase the
number of served users, with a view to arrive at an optimal design model.
This thesis examines the structure of a mobile telecommunication's system, the factors taken
into account in the design of a mobile system and the models used to estimate losses due to the
peculiarities of the region, the existence of shadowing and multipath fading. Having mentioned the
whole methodology behind cell planning and the way that a mobile system is structured, we are
finally applying a simplified model of radio coverage in the area of Attica.

Positionering i GSM-nätverkPersson, Patrik January 2007 (has links)

Mobiliojo tinklo paslaugų kokybės vertinimo ir gerinimo būdų tyrimas / Investigation of evaluation and improvement methods of service quality in mobile networksBatkauskas, Vaidas 27 June 2006 (has links)
Topicality of the problem.
GSM mobile networks are very widely used in the world and the number of GSM users exceeds 10^9. In the last decade, the GSM/GPRS network has been very rapidly expanded in Lithuania as well. Coverage of the network has reached 99 % of territory of the country. Load of the network in largest cities reaches up to several hundred Erlangs for square kilometre. Voice traffic still generates the largest part of the network load, however mobile data traffic also grows rapidly. Radio interface between the user of mobile services and the network is not stationary. The received QoS of every user in different places is different. Even in a single cell, radio link characteristics differ in different parts of the cell. The signal level may easily vary about 10–20 dB just within several or tens of meters. Moreover, a mobile user experiences different link conditions while moving in the natural environment within or between cells. However, historically characteristics of QoS of mobile services are measured and evaluated like the ones of the fixed network using statistical methods. Statistically calculated characteristics of QoS do not include information about the received quality of mobile telecommunication services of every individual user.
Conception of the received quality of services of individual users (individual QoS – iQoS) in the GSM/GPRS network has not been analysed in the world before. QoS should be measured not only at the network level, as it is... [to full text]
