Predictors of Resilient Outcomes among Juvenile Offenders

Research on resilience has almost completely bypassed the juvenile justice literature. Using data on 1,354 youth from the Pathways to Desistance study, the present study examined associations between individual, community, and familial risk and promotive factors and resilient outcomes, specifically gainful activity, in juvenile offenders. Results of both logistic and hierarchical regression models indicated significant associations between resilient outcomes in each domain: specifically individual (age at first arrest, motivation to succeed), community (geographic location, exposure to violence), and family (socioeconomic status, parental monitoring) predictors. Finally, this paper discusses reasons for non-significant findings and directions for future research on resilience among youth involved in the juvenile justice system.

Title of thesis: Restriction of Performance of Other Gainful Activity During the Employment Relationship Abstract This diploma thesis deals with the issue of restriction of performance of other gainful activity by employee during his employment relationship. In accordance with the wording of the legal provision governing the employee's obligation not to compete with his employer by performance of other gainful activity, it may seem that this is fairly clear regulation. However, further examination provides more detailed view that the provision conceals several aspects which may be confusing for employees. Such misunderstanding of this restriction may frequently lead to breach of that duty, without awareness of employee. It is therefore no exception that the Supreme Court of the Czech Republic often deals with the settlement of disputes concerning void termination of an employment relationship, which occurred by the employer due to a breach of the employee's obligation not to perform other gainful activity which is prohibited by law. By studying this case-law thoroughly, it is possible to find out boundaries between what is considered to be a violation in question and what is not. This diploma thesis is focused on the issue of the economy of churches and religious societies in the context of so-called church restitution. The first section focuses on the position of churches and religious societies within civil society, the legislative framework of churches and religious societies, the church restitution and their current form, as well as the economy of churches and religious societies. The empirical section attempts to answer the outlined research questions. It explains the consequences of church restitution for the selected sample of churches in relation to the church economy, and it focuses on the church entrepreneurship in the context of church restitution.
