A projeção da imagem política no discurso jornalístico: Um estudo comparativo de revistas semanais de Brasil e Alemanha / The construction of political image in journalistic discourse: a comparative study of Brazilian and Germany magazinesSouza, Ellen Barros de 01 April 2014 (has links)
In election years, campaigns in favor of candidates to various public posts get more intense, as well as media coverage, due to the events and political personalities connected to the polls. This dissertation aims at investigating the journalistic discourse, specially the genre news report, in weekly magazines published in Brazil and Germany, as far as two important political figures of those two countries are regarded, viz., Dilma Rousseff and Angela Merkel. This is the context of Época and Focus, magazines that have points in common regarding their graphic projects. Ten news reports have been selected, five from each magazine. The hypothesis of this work is that, by means of their discourses, the magazines sought to create a type of ethos, either positive or negative, of those political personalities so as to persuade their reading public in the electoral period. In order to confirm the accuracy of that hypothesis, the theoretical supports of Discourse Analysis and its organization from Charaudeau (2010b); the forms of reported speech and modalization from Maingueneau (1997, 2011); the concepts of ethos (Meyer, 2007; Amossy, 2008; Charaudeau, 2008), as well as the considerations on journalism made by Lage (1985, 2001) were used. It was concluded that, by means of linguistic-discursive procedures, the images of the candidates built by the magazines are overall negative. This means that both of the magazines take stands regarding the candidates and therefore shape their discourse in order to persuade their readers so far as those public figures are considered

Proportional Representation and the Weimar ConstitutionHastings, Preston B. (Preston Bruce) 12 1900 (has links)
The thesis examines the reasons why the German National Assembly of 1919 chose proportional representation to elect officials to the German Reichstag. Sources include the series Quellen zur Geschichte des Parlamentarismus and die politische Parteien, the "Hajo Holborn Papers", and the Reich Ministry of Interior debates concerning the institutional draft. The thesis traces the arguments for proportional representation, its use throughout Europe before 1914, and voting reform in Germany during World War I. The thesis surveys the German provisional government's adoption of proportional representation, emphasizing the constitutional drafts of Hugo Preuss and the role of the provisional government. Finally, the thesis scrutinizes the National Assembly debates, concluding that most of its members had already decided to follow the provisional government's course and accept proportional representation.

Sex and the party : gender policy, gender culture, and political participation in unified GermanyGlatte, Sarah January 2014 (has links)
This thesis explores the relationship between gender policy, gender culture, and political participation in unified Germany. It investigates the extent to which political regimes shape citizens' attitudes towards gender roles and examines the effect of such attitudes on women's participation in politics. The thesis is divided into three parts: The first part explores the differences in gender regime types between the former German Democratic Republic and Federal Republic of Germany during the Cold War period. Building on existing studies, the analysis considers how generations that were socialised in the divided Germany differ in their attitudes toward gender roles. It finds that citizens from West Germany are more socially conservative than citizens from the East. The second part of the thesis tests the effects of these traditional gender attitudes on citizens' participation, focusing on party membership. The analysis highlights that gender gaps in formal political participation in unified Germany still exist, but that these gaps are smaller in the new federal states. The investigation further shows that traditional gender attitudes exert a negative effect on women’s political engagement beyond the predictive power of socio-economic and demographic factors. The final part of this thesis casts a critical look at the political controversy in Germany over the introduction of a cash-for-care subsidy (the so-called Betreuungsgeld). It explores the normative assumptions and ideas about gender roles that have been promoted by Germany's main political parties throughout the policy negotiation process. Using a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, the research presented in this thesis draws on, and contributes to, studies on gender, welfare states, political socialisation, and political participation.

Vývoj SPD po znovusjednocení Německa do roku 2005 / Development of the SPD between the reunification of Germany and 2005Jůza, Robert January 2016 (has links)
This master thesis focuses on the development of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) between the years 1990 and 2005. At the beginning of this period, Germany was reunited. At the end, the coalition government of the SPD and the Greens came to its end and the SPD lost the office of the Chancellor. The first chapter of this thesis summarizes the post- war development of the SPD, which is crucial for better understanding of the events after the year 1990. The following chapters are, in accordance with the election period focused on the period of 1990 - 2005. The main focus of this thesis are the important phenomena which were linked to the SPD during the analysed period. Attention is paid to the debates within the party regarding economic, social and foreign policy or personnel issues. The main program documents of the SPD from the years 1990 - 2005 are analysed. All the mentioned information is summarised and interpreted.

Sociální hnutí Fridays for Future v SRN / Social Movement Fridays for Future in the FRGRoznerová, Jana January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the social movement Fridays for Future and its activity in the Federal Republic of Germany. The study describes frames which are used by the movement to communicate with public and to mobilize its supporters. In the analysis the thesis is based on the framing theory, which was in more detail elaborated by David A. Snow and Robert D. Benford. Specifically, the thesis deals with the analyses of the frames that occurred in the selected speeches delivered by the activists of the movement Fridays for Future. To be more precise, it is the diagnostic, prognostic, and motivational framing. At the beginning of the movement there was the Swedish activist Greta Thunberg who came up with the idea of school strikes for climate. The movement resonated strongly in the German society and it managed to mobilize an extraordinary amount of people in comparison to other states. The central aim of this thesis is to characterize the movement Fridays for Future in Germany. The thesis concentrates on the official goals that the movement tries to push through at the level of the German politics. Furthermore, it focuses on the collective identity and composition of the demonstration participants, primarily it dedicates to social and demographic features of the demonstrators. Besides, the thesis...
