Slezské řezané barokní sklo ve sbírce Uměleckoprůmyslového musea v Praze / Silesian Baroque Cut Glass in the collection of Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague

Bednářová, Tereza January 2012 (has links)
The Diploma thesis "Silesian Baroque Cut Glass in the collection of Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague" deals with the collection of Silesian Baroque cut glass at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague spanning from the last quarter of the 17th century to the third quarter of the 18th century. The thesis describes the technique of glass cutting and its history. It also deals with the beginnings of glass cutting in Silesia, which are associated with the Schaffgotsch family in the Hirschberger Valley. Worth mentioning is also the renowned glass cutter Friedrich Winter, who along with his glass workshop substantially influenced Silesian glass cutting in the following decades. The thesis also mentiones other well-known glass cutters, particularly Christian Gottfried Schneider. The chapters dealing with the development of the shape and ornament of Silesian Baroque cut glass are important for correct classification by periods and localities. A catalogue of selected objects from the collection of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague follows the first part of the thesis which comprises the text. Most of the catalogue's objects have not been published thus far or were often never presented in detail if they appeared in literature.

Experimental Analysis Of Curved Laminated Beam

Uzhan, Tevfik 01 May 2010 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT EXPERIMENTAL ANALYSIS OF CURVED LAMINATED GLASS BEAM Uzhan, Tevfik M.S., Department of Engineering Sciences Supervisor: Prof. Dr. M. Z&uuml / lf&uuml / ASik May 2010, 33 Pages In this thesis, experimental studies are carried out on curved laminated glass beams to form a database for the scientists who may like to test their mathematical models. Beams which are only free to rotate and constrained in radial direction at both ends are tested to make the data available for further calculations. Test setup is prepared to minimize error that could occur due to test setup and data readings. Material testing machine and 4 channel data collecting machine are used to measure the signals at the strain gauges located over the glass beam. Within the range of force applied to the specimens, laminated curved beam shows linear behavior without any fracture. Data collected from the specimens are in conformance with each other. Results obtained from experiments are compared with the results obtained from the mathematical model developed by ASik and Dural (2006). As it is observed from the graphs presented, experimental results from the tests and numerical results from the mathematical model are in good agreement.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Edson Carvalho Paz.pdf: 1589088 bytes, checksum: 37f9b2d6613e1ce560c6a50e8dbf458f (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-06-30 / CAPES, CNPQ / In this work glass formation of CaF2-CaO-B2O3-TeO2 system (CBTx), with tellurium oxide concentrations varing from 20 to 50 wt%, was studied. In order to evaluate the glass forming ability of that system, six glass matrix were prepared and characterized to understand the behavior of their physical, thermal, structural, optical and spectroscopic properties. As far we know, this is the first report in the literature about this glass system. The preparation of glasses CBTx system was carried out keeping the Ca/B2O3. The prepared glass samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), volumetric density (ρ), Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential thermal analysis (DTA), specific heat (cp), refractive index (n), electronic polarizability (α), theoretical optical basicity (Λth), optical absorption coefficient (Ae) and band gap optical (Eopt). The results are discussed in terms of tellurium oxide content and structural properties of the glass samples. Density, thermal stability, refractive index, electronic polarizability and theoretical optical basicity values increase with TeO2 content, while transition temperature (Tg), specific heat, optical window and the band gap optical decrease; Raman and FTIR spectroscopy indicated that the network structure of studied glass is formed by BO3, BO4, TeO3, TeO3+1 and TeO4 units. The CBTx system showed a good ability to glass formation, especially the glass matrix of most TeO2 content (CBT50), which proved to be the most suitable for future work doping with rare earth ions and tests as optical amplifier in communication fibers or other photonic devices.

Flexural Analysis and Design of Textile Reinforced Concrete

Soranakom, Chote, Mobasher, Barzin 03 June 2009 (has links)
A model is presented to use normalized multi-linear tension and compression material characteristics of strain-hardening textile reinforced concrete and derive closed form expressions for predicting moment-curvature capacity. A set of design equations are derived and simplified for use in spreadsheet based applications. The model is applicable for both strain-softening and strainhardening materials. The predictability of the simplified model is checked by model calibration and development of design charts for moment capacity and stress developed throughout the cross section of a flexural member. Model is calibrated by predicting the results of Alkali Resistant Glass and Polyethylene fabrics. A case for the flexural design of Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) specimen as a simply supported beam subjected to distributed load is used to demonstrate the design procedure.

Effect of crowdedness in the life cycle of lysenin studied by high-speed atomic force microscopy

Lopez de Blas, Ignacio 13 June 2017 (has links)
Many functions of the plasma membrane depend critically on itsstructure and dynamics. Observation of anomalous diffusion in vivo and in vitro usingfluorescence microscopy and single particle tracking has advanced our concept of themembrane from a homogeneous fluid bilayer with freely diffusing proteins to a highlyorganized crowded and clustered mosaic of lipids and proteins. Unfortunately, anomalous diffusion could not be related to local molecular details given the lack ofdirect and unlabeled molecular observation capabilities. Here, we use high-speedatomic force microscopy and a novel analysis methodology to analyze the poreforming protein lysenin in a highly crowded environment and document coexistenceof several diffusion regimes within one membrane. We show the formation of localglassy phases, where proteins are trapped in neighbor-formed cages for time scales upto 10 s, which had not been previously experimentally reported for biologicalmembranes. Furthermore, around solid-like patches and immobile molecules aslower glass phase is detected leading to protein trapping and creating a perimeter ofdecreased membrane diffusion.

Prautzsch, Volker 15 September 2015 (has links)
The use of glass beams in transparent roofs and glass fins as part of the facade is already state-of-the-art construction to achieve a transparent and lightweight appearance. Until now, mechanical fasteners made from stainless steel are used to join these structural components. Those fasteners visually interfere, require holes in the glass and cause unfavorable stress peaks in the glass. In contrast, adhesive bonding is much more appropriate to join the brittle material glass. The subject of this dissertation is the study of a planar adhesive joint which transfers the load between the load-bearing glass components into the primary structure. With a relatively large layer thickness, the manufacturing of the transparent joint represents a major challenge. Furthermore, the aging resistance and the load-bearing capacity must be proven. A selection of 14 potentially suitable, transparent adhesives of acrylate, epoxy resin and polyurethane are tested for temperature-depending material properties. These tests are based on thermo-mechanical and mechanical test methods. In addition, the long-term durability of the adhesives is verified by artificial aging test on bonded specimens. Subsequently, the photometric characteristics and the visual quality of the samples are assessed. As the result an UV- and light-curing acrylate adhesive is identified as particularly suitable. Compression shear tests under temperature and aging influences as well as creep tests are performed on substance samples and small-scale specimens to determine the adhesive strength of this adhesive. A suitable application and curing process is developed for use in planar bonded joints. Tests on specimen components were carried out to determine the load-bearing capacity of the bonded glass frame corners. In these experiments, the glass fails while the adhesive joint remains intact. Creep test are used to record the creep deformation of component specimen at increased temperature. Accompanying the study, several building projects are realized to use adhesive bonding technology in all-glass constructions. Without any visible forms of connection, the glass construction represents a significant innovation in Germany in terms of both building legislation and building technology. It´s the first time, glass fins and glass beams are joint to a glass primary structural system via transparent acrylate adhesive. The connection method is based on the findings of the present study. The glass panels of the envelope are joined to the primary glass structure with an approved silicone adhesive. Two of the described construction projects are monitored to obtain further knowledge about the long-term behaviour of the bonded joints. The comprehensive studies of this thesis as well as the ongoing monitoring have proven the significance and the reliability of transparent, load-bearing bonded joints in the field of glass construction.
