Haupt, Hans F. 03 November 1977 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to show the existing quantitative tool (model) measuring the true grant-value of foreign aid, expand that model somewhat to arrive at least at reasonably accurate input factors which are otherwise difficult to evaluate, and to document China's foreign aid program on a recipient by recipient basis, both in terms of its nature and its estimated grant-components.

Excel is a Videogame : A Critique of Tavinors Definition / Excel är ett datorspel : En kritik av Tavinors definition

Hjertström, Albin January 2024 (has links)
This paper focuses on first looking at ludology and narratology as opposing schools within the thoughts of defining videogames. Following this I dissect and then discuss the definition of videogames given by Grant Tavinor in his book Art of Videogames from the view of a narratologist. The main part of the text then goes through Tavinors definition part by part, first studying its intended meaning in a charitable way along with a deeper discussion brought forth by me with examples of how games could fit into the ideas that Tavinor puts forth. This is then followed by a critique of that particular section. The definition is sliced up into four parts and the focus of my critique was the idea of rule and objective gameplay being optional to the definition of videogames, the idea videogames need to be a visual medium, the fact that videogames has to be intended to be entertaining by its creators and finally a discussion on Tavinors intentions with interactive narratives. This was then rounded out by a discussion of the implications on the definition of videogames and the battle between narratology and ludology. The paper believes that a new definition is required and while Tavinor’s definitions are useful at a cursory glance it is required to be reworked in its entirety to be useful in any academic sense.

The Role of Habitat Restoration and Conservation in the Changing Socio-economic Conditions of Grant County, Oregon

Senkyr, Kristen Lauren 26 March 2012 (has links)
Habitat restoration has socio-economic as well as biophysical impacts. In Grant County, Oregon a recent influx of funding and technical resources for habitat restoration has led to focused monitoring efforts there to better understand the impacts. This study explores how local land use and land management practices are changing in Grant County as a result of restoration and other drivers. In-depth interviews were conducted with 17 landowners, land managers, and long time residents to document the change they have observed and identify how they are adapting. The results suggest that many interconnected social, economic, and ecological changes have taken place in Grant County in the recent past, of which the increased focus on restoration and conservation is just one. Other significant changes include the decline of the timber industry, shifting land ownership patterns, intensified regulation of natural resources, and increased environmental awareness. Ways that the community is adapting and additional ways in which they might more successfully adapt to these changes were identified. Recommendations for how to contribute to a more resilient Grant County are presented for the regulatory, academic, and scientific communities.

Towards a taxonomy of reusable CRM requirements for the Not for Profit sector

Flory, Peter January 2011 (has links)
Traditional (or commercial) CRM is a well-defined domain but there is currently no generally accepted definition of what constitutes CRM in the not for profit (NfP) sector. Not for profit organisations are organisations which exist for a social purpose, are independent of the State, and which re-invest all of their financial surpluses in the services they offer or in the organisation itself. This research aims to answer the question "What exactly is CRM as applied to the NfP sector, what are its boundaries and what functions should an NfP CRM information system perform?" Grounded Theory Method (GTM) within a Design Science framework was used to collect, analyse, categorise, generalise and structure data from a number of NfP organisations and NfP information systems suppliers. An NfP CRM model was constructed from this data in the form of three multi-level taxonomies. The main taxonomy relates to generic and reusable information system requirements both functional and non-functional. Within this taxonomy the high-level categorisations of commercial CRM, namely "Marketing, "Sales" and "Service", are greatly extended to reflect the special needs of the NfP sector and in particular a much broader definition of "customer". The two minor taxonomies relate to issues of CRM strategy and CRM systems architecture which need to be considered alongside the system requirements. In addition to and resulting from the taxonomies, an over-arching definition of NfP CRM was developed. NfP organisations now have a framework that will enable them to know what to expect of CRM systems and from which they can select requirements to build their own specification of information system needs. Using the requirements taxonomy for this task will make the process of requirements analysis and specification easier, quicker, cheaper and more complete than using traditional methods. The framework will also allow NfP system suppliers to know what NfP organisations expect of their systems and will assist them with the specification of new system features. The minor taxonomies will provide NfP organisations with a series of strategic issues and systems architecture options that should be considered when implementing a CRM system. This research also demonstrates how GTM can be utilised: as the development phase of Design Research, as a general method of domain analysis, and as a tool to develop a taxonomy of reusable information system requirements.
