Neuropharmacology of compulsive eating

Panciera, Julia 01 November 2017 (has links)
Compulsive eating behavior is a transdiagnostic construct observed in certain forms of obesity and eating disorders, as well as in the recently proposed ‘food addiction.’ Compulsive eating has been conceptualized as being comprised of three elements: i) habitual overeating, ii) overeating to relieve a negative emotional state, and iii) overeating despite adverse consequences. Neurobiological processes that include maladaptive habit formation, the emergence of a negative affect, and dysfunctions in inhibitory control are thought to drive the development and persistence of compulsive eating behavior. These complex psychobehavioral processes are under the control of various neuropharmacological systems. Here, we describe the current evidence implicating these systems in compulsive eating behavior, and contextualize them within the three elements. A better understanding of the neuropharmacological substrates of compulsive eating behavior has the potential to significantly advance the pharmacotherapy for feeding-related pathologies. / 2018-10-31T00:00:00Z

Šebková, Jana January 2018 (has links)
1 The crime of habitual drunkenness under s. 360 of the Criminal C. Abstract The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze complexly the problems associated with the legal regulation of the crime of drunkenness. The crime of habitual drunkenness or otherwise called the "Rauschdelikt" is an illustrative option of how to deal with the issue of an insane people, which act unlawfully and how to punish them. The person which commits an unlawful act in a state of insanity, committed an act of otherwise criminal, quasi-delict. Where the perpetrator has caused a state of insanity by consuming or applying an addictive substance. The above-mentioned concept of "Rauschdelikt" appears to be the best option, for the sake of consistency with the fundamental principles and principles of criminal law, the nullum crimen sine culpa principle. The thesis is organized in individual chapters, which are gradually dealing with the historical development, and this crime does not present in modern criminal law no novelty; on the contrary, the institute of drunkenness has deep historical roots. The following chapters analyzes some individual basic terms that are necessary for the definition of a crime of habitual drunkenness and include and clarify the legal institutes that are close to and closely related to this crime, such as the...

This dissertation aims at realizing a research on the nature of creativity understood as a process, with the possibility of explaining it in a systematic manner. We refute the hypothesis which ascribes to creative process a subjective and ineffable aura. In order to settle our argumentation we reconstruct that hypotheses of C. S. Peirce referring to a specific sort of logical reasoning associated with the concept of creativity, called abductive reasoning. As we also consider aspects of Peirce's philosophy which organize and integrate the analysis of such logical inference. As our argumentation is developed, we present the theses of contemporary philosophers that have worked on the analysis of this subject.

Maintaining tooth brushing habit : A service design to motivate young people in Sweden

Li, Yi January 2018 (has links)
Sweden has a complete public oral hygiene system while there are still problems existing on young people which are caused by their individual habits. In the research, the main reason was found having connections with lack of daily tooth brushing. With the development design for behavior change, this research was trying to find how design can change when it was related to young people’s oral care behavior at home. As a result, a service design concluding a reward system was put forward to motivate young people to maintain a good tooth brushing habit.

Playing Nine to Five : Ways of exploring our present relations with objects through playfulness

Wang, Yu-Fen January 2017 (has links)
Playing Nine to Five is a project that aims to raise awareness of the presence of objects in everyday situations. We always surround ourselves with objects, some of them we touch and use everyday, and some of them we barely notice until they stop working. But are we always aware of our relations with them, or have we slightly taken them for granted? While our life quality has moved forward and our living pace has sped up, we tend to lose more of our attentions and sensitivities to things around us. During the design process, I used office space as a canvas to discuss and challenge our daily norms, where objects exist mainly as tools. I looked into our ‘unconscious behavior’ with objects, such as habits or recurring actions. In our everyday lives, these repetitions and rhythmic movements with objects are often being unnoticed or considered as ‘normal’. In this project, I worked with two office objects, a pen and a clock. Respectively, they represent different ways of exploring our present relations with objects. Pen is an object we use and carry with almost everyday. It is personal and close to our body. Clock, on the other hand, is an object that we barley touch, but constantly look at or search for. It shows the information of time. Both proposals are designed to bring attention to what we are using, when, and how, to create space for discussion and reflection. The purpose of this project is to tweak the way we interact with objects and explore our relations with objects through playfulness and curiosity. I see this project as an ongoing exploration and a potential development in the future.

The dynamics of public spending and economics development

Hao, Xin January 2015 (has links)
The objective of the thesis is to provide a theory that explains the stylized facts regarding the trend of taxation policies, public spending and sovereign debt in advanced economies for the past couple of decades. The thesis focuses on distinguishing two types of public spending - productive investment and welfare payment and develops two different frameworks to examine the importance of the composition of these two types of public spending for economic growth and welfare. Chapter 2 presents a dynamic political-economy model in which voters decide tax rates and the proportion of public goods expenditure devoted to non-productive (but utility-enhancing) public goods. This non-productive public goods expenditure gives rise to a habit effect - it has to be at least as large as a fraction of last period value to provide utility. The median voter theorem applies. Starting from a steady state without the habit effect, its introduction leads to transitional dynamics that mimic several stylized facts: in particular, countries with higher income tend to have larger government and spend more on welfare programme. Chapter 3 studies the impact of public deficit on long-run economic growth by distinguishing the different types of government spending: investment and welfare payment. The model in this chapter predicts a non-monotonic or threshold effect in the relationship between public deficit and steady state growth rate. The composition of the public spending (the ratio between productive and non-productive) dictates the "threshold" in the national debt level. Countries which spend more on providing productive public goods could maintain a higher level of national debt that promotes growth.
