The 1957 social upheaval involved different interests concerning the social, political and economic areas, such aspects fall in a specific context of land disputes in the region. The uprising is known to be a popular movement, in which colonists, regarded as squatters, occupy the major cities in that area and force the withdrawal of colonizing companies, conquering their properties. Therefore, one of our goals, in this paper, is to analyze the participation of remaining "farrapos" or "maragatos" inside the revolt. This participation is presented from two specific matters: first, analyzing how some historiographies locate these "remnants" in this context or even regarding what precedes it, with attention to the situation that inserts these people as a reference to the 1957 conflict. After that it examines how regional memory demarcates the issue in the public area, i.e., how these characters are highlighted and become icons and symbols of struggle. Thus, the analysis regards an issue that is seen by much of the historiography that studies the uprising, as it is given. Papers that question the participation of these elements are unknwon, and it creates an idea, which carries forward the following thought, "the revolt had an important contribution of remaining 'farrapos' or 'maragatos'", this idea does not question who they are and what is their relationship with movements that took place in Rio Grande do Sul. Therefore, this reflection aims to contextualize an idea for discussion. At the same time, another goal is to reflect on the narratives of characters that participated in or experienced the Revolt of the Colonists. The research uses oral history, that brings forth the experiences of individuals who lived through the period or witnessed it, also, it aims to understand their life histories, their struggles and ways of living. In interviews, among numerous presented aspects, we emphasize the social and economic difficulties in a context of political instability. I intend to present social experiences in the qualitative sense of the oral source, by demonstrating how to lift the experiences of ordinary people, with no ties to political parties or without an urban party leadership, which were also significant for the outcome of the revolt. When thinking about how these characters watched the main events, we also emphasize how it is differnet from the official said memories.
