RUDERICO FERRAZ PIMENTEL 11 August 2009 (has links)
[en] This work developes na algorithm that furnishes solutions that are almost optimal for the Quadratic Assignment problem as formulated by Koopmans and Beckmann. The presentation of the problem is in Chapter 1 as are some of the possible formulations and applications. This Chapter also studies the relationships between the following problems: Quadratic Assignment, Linear Assignment and Traveling Salesman problem. Chapter 2 presents a general view of the approaches used for it’s solution. The algorithm is based on the ideas presented by Hall. Chapter 3 is a summary of the Hall’s method. Chapter 4 is a detailed description of the algorithm and some of it’s computational aspects. Finally in chapter 5 comparisons are made between the results using the proposed algorithm and the results obtained using other algorithms.

Transitional Stages Between Everyday Numbness and Fixed Experience

Lindstrand, Karl January 2018 (has links)
The aim of this thesis project has been to explore stages for performance that promotes situational displacement and questions cultural containment and inclusion. By implementing stages that merges with and leaks out in to the surrounding urban environment the aspiration has been to manipulate adjacent urban spaces and by doing so offer an alternative spatial imagination that provokes public consciousness and the possiblity of new subjective and collective engagement within our built environment.

Tunneling Conductance Characterization of a Quantum Dot in the Fractional Quantum Hall Regime

Willard, Douglas E. 01 January 2011 (has links)
This work represents a first-principles calculation of the electron tunneling current into quantum dots in the fractional quantum Hall effect regime. The system under consideration consists of an idealized Scanning Tunneling Microscope (STM) tip and a quantum dot with disk geometry and interacting electrons in a transverse magnetic field. Within the context of this model the tunneling current between the STM tip and the dot is examined for spin-polarized electrons at and around a filling factor of 1/3. The current expression is based on a second-quantized Hamiltonian in which electrons in the dot are interacting, confined, and restricted to the lowest Landau level, necessary to capture the physics of the fractional quantum Hall effect. The Hamiltonian includes simple approximations for the STM tip and the tip-dot tunneling. An exact analytic expression for the first-order tunneling current is derived using a Green's function approach. To calculate the tunneling current numerically the infinite Hilbert space of the dot is truncated to have a finite dimension within the lowest Landau level. This simplification is appropriate for a low temperature system in the fractional quantum Hall regime because of the finite size of the quantum dot and the large energy gap between Landau levels. The tunneling current is then solved in two steps. First, many-electron energy eigenstates are calculated from the truncated Hamiltonian by numerical diagonalization. This is carried out for varying numbers of electrons N. The energy eigenstates form a set of complete basis states of the system and are used in the expression for the tunneling current. In the second step, the chemical potential in the dot is chosen to select a desired number of electrons and the tunneling current evaluated. We have carried out this program for filling factors near 1=3 while modulating the system parameters of interest to determine functional dependencies.

Uhlman, Katrin January 2017 (has links)
What kind of interaction occurs in the preschool hallway among the children and their teachers? Does this interaction enable any kind of learning? This is a qualitative study performed at a preschool in a municipality in the south of Sweden. The purpose of the study was to try to find out what is actually happening in the preschool hallway, and if there is any kind of or potential for learning in the preschool hallway. The empirical data was collected through observations in the preschool hallway at four occasions when the children were about to come in or go outside. The observations were followed up by semi-structured interviews with three of the teachers in the department. The empirical data was then analyzed and interpreted on the basis of the socio-cultural perspective on learning and development. The results show that the interaction in the preschool hallway mainly happens around all the practical things associated with the hallway. The conversations here are divided in to two categories; conversations of private nature and conversations about practical issues concerning the preschool activities. The study also showed that in the preschool hallway there is an ongoing learning process, with the potential of meeting many goals of the preschool curriculum. The results showed that the teachers often overlook these learning situations due to the fact that the learning processes here are subordinate to the goal of getting the children ready to go in or out.

Överhölö folkets hus / Överhölö community hall

Larsson, Martin January 2021 (has links)
A short walk or bike ride to the north west of Hölö lies the new community hall for the people of Hölö and its surroundings. For hundreds of years the place has been a gathering spot for those who live in the area. The raised church ruin and the new community building amplifies each other, enhances the place and creates new spaces both inside and outside. In the cellar at one end of the oblong building, milk from a nearby farm is processed, and in the restaurant you can enjoy its products and other hyperlocal produce. In the main hall of the building multiple rooms create different open and closed-off spaces for studying, working, cooking-classes, hanging out with friends, exhibitions and whatever its users need. At the other end of the building is an assembly hall that follows the natural slope. Here lies the only cinema of the nearby vicinity and it can be used for bigger meetings, talks and lectures. The over-earth part of the building is made completely of wood and the whole building is designed to be sustainable, lasting and easy to change so it can stand there as long as the church has.
