EXPLORING THE STRUCTURAL, ELECTRONIC, AND MAGNETORESPONSIVE PROPERTIES OF NOVEL MAGNETIC MATERIALS IN BULK, RIBBONS, AND THIN FILMS

Pandey, Sudip 01 May 2019 (has links) (PDF)
The structural, electronic, magnetic, magnetocaloric, and transport properties of doped Ni-Mn-(In, Sn) based Heusler alloys were studied using neutron diffraction, x-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), high field magnetization, specific heat, x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD), and hydrostatic pressure measurements. The adiabatic temperature change (∆Tad) by a direct method and through thermomagnetic measurements in magnetic fields up to 14 T has been performed for these alloys. Also the mixed effect of pressure and magnetic field on the transition temperature of these alloys are discussed. In order to develop new magnetocaloric and multifunctional materials, the synthesis and characterization of Heusler alloys in reduced dimensions, i.e., ribbons and thin films has been performed. In addition, the structural, magnetic, and magnetocaloric properties of Ni-based binary alloys were investigated, including saturation magnetization and Curie temperature (TC) for the possible applications in self controlled magnetic hyperthermia applications.

STUDY OF PHASE TRANSITION AND MAGNNETOCALORIC EFFECT FOR THE SYSTEM Ni-Mn-In-Bi

Oli, Abhiyan 01 December 2023 (has links) (PDF)
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OFABHIYAN OLI, for the Master of Science degree in Applied Physics, presented on August 10, 2023 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. TITLE: STUDY OF PHASE TRANSITION AND MAGNNETOCALORIC EFFECT FOR THE SYSTEM Ni-Mn-In-Bi MAJOR PROFESSOR: Dr. Saikat Talapatra We experimentally investigate the Heusler alloys Ni50Mn35In12Bi3 and Ni47Mn35In15Bi3 on their different magnetic properties: structural, magnetic, magnetocaloric and magnetotransport properties by using room-temperature X-ray diffraction (XRD), and magnetization measurements in the temperature interval of 10 -380K and field up to 5T. This alloys shows both high temperature austenite phase (AP) and martensite phase (MP). The alloy Ni47Bi3Mn35In15 crystallize in primitive Cubic structure with space group Fm-3m and Ni50Mn35In12Bi3 with the crystal structure of Tetragonal L21 type with space group I4-3m. Alloy Ni47Bi3Mn35In15 show two phase transition FOPT from Ferrimagnetic/AFM to FM and SOPT from FM to PM towards higher temperature and its result will be discussed here mainly. The martensitic transition (TM) takes place around 200K and Curie temperature (TC) 313K in presence of 100Oe field. The saturation magnetization (Ms) at 10K was found to be increasing at lower field and stabilized at higher field indicating ferromagnetic behavior. The Ni47Bi3Mn35In15 shows high magnetocaloric effects (ΔSM = -47.36 Jkg-1K-1) and Relative Cooling Power (RCP = 222.12 J/Kg) in the vicinity of its Curie temperature (TC =313K). Magnetotransport measurement is done by using a standard four-probe method from 10-380 K temperature in presence of zero field and 50 kOe field.

Rtg difrakce a difuzní rozpyl na Heuslerových slitinách / Rtg difrakce a difuzní rozpyl na Heuslerových slitinách

Cejpek, Petr January 2015 (has links)
Recently, Heusler alloys are studied for their interesting magnetic and electronic properties. These properties are strongly dependent on the crystallographic struc- ture. This work deals with Heusler alloys of the A2BC type. We have powder samples and single-crystaline samples for our study as well. An object of interest was a description of crystallographic structure of the samples, site occupation numbers of each type of atoms and their possible occupation disorder. Pow- der difraction and EXAFS have been measured on the powder samples. Clasical single-crystal diffractions has been meassured on the single-crystaline samples. In the case of a modulated structure in the samples, satelite difractions have been measured too. 1

Theoretical And Experimental Investigations On Atomic And Magnetic Ordering In Full Heusler Alloys

Topbasi, Cem 01 October 2008 (has links) (PDF)
The aim of the study, which was carried out in two main parts, was to investigate the atomic and magnetic ordering in various full Heusler alloy systems. In the theoretical part of the thesis, investigations based on the statiscothermodynamical theory of ordering by means of Bragg-Williams-Gorsky (BWG) method combined with electronic theory in the pseudopotential approximation have been conducted to model order-order (L21&amp / #8596 / B2) and order-disorder (B2&amp / #8596 / A2) phase transformations in Ni-Mn-C (C=Ga, In, Sb) and A2BGa (A=Fe, Ni, Co / B=Ni, Mn, Co, Fe) Heusler alloys. The partial ordering energies, calculated according to the electronic theory of alloys in pseudopotential approximation for the first two coordination spheres were utilized as input data for the theoretical superlattice formation models based on BWG approximation. Furthermore, the trends of L21&amp / #8596 / B2 transition temperatures with electron concentration at A, B and C atomic sites were determined. In the experimental part of the thesis, structural and magnetic properties of Ni-Mn-Ga and Ni-Mn-Al Heusler alloys were investigated. For the Ni-Mn-Ga Heusler alloy system, it was found that the martensitic (TM) and Curie temperatures (TC) merge for Ni54Mn20Ga26 and Ni56Mn18Ga26 alloys by compositional tuning. For the Ni-Mn-Al Heusler alloy system, it was found that ferromagnetism was introduced into these alloys by low temperature aging, as a result of the stabilization of the L21 phase. In addition to that, magnetocaloric effect (MCE) was determined in the vicinity of the first order magneto-structural transition for Ni-rich Ni-Mn-Ga alloys and near the second order magnetic transition for the Ni2MnAl alloy.

Phase Transformation And Magnetic Properties Of Multicomponent Heusler Type Alloys

Kalkanci, Mine 01 September 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Many Co-based Heusler alloys with the stoichometric composition X2YZ are ideal candidates for the spintronics applications. So, they have been extensively studied theoretically and experimentally. The aim of this work was to investigate the effect heat treatment on phase stability and magnetic properties for quaternary Co2FeSi1-xGax Heusler alloys with varying Si concentration. The Co2FeSi1-xGax alloy samples were prepared by conventional arc melting technique. The structure of Co2FeSi1-xGax bulk alloys were examined by powder x-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry. It was confirmed that Co2FeSi1-xGax alloys display the L21 type structure for all x compositions based on the annealing temperature. The magnetic ordering transition temperature, Tc, was measured by differential scanning calorimetry. It was found that the order-disorder phase transition temperature from the L21 to the B2 structure, T , decreases while the Curie temperature, Tc, increases with increasing x / however, the value of these temperatures were not influenced by changing heat treatment process. The magnetic properties of Co2FeSi1-xGax alloy were investigated by using vibrating sample magnetometer. Higher saturation value was obtained at the L21 phase than the value obtained at the B2 phase. It was concluded that the Co2FeSi0.2Ga0.8 alloy was chosen optimum composition for spintronics applications because of its highest Curie temperature and phase stability of L21.
