Els qui, durant el Renaixement, es dediquen a la recerca històrica comparteixen una antiga convicció: per conèixer de debò i en profunditat el que estudien, n’han de descobrir i comprendre l’origen. És per això que els relats sobre les causes i els inventors de la poesia i les narracions que s’expliquen des dels orígens constitueixen la modalitat historiogràfica més productiva i rellevant de la poètica cinccentista. Però revelar o imaginar els orígens no només justifica que els crítics es dediquin a la indagació històrica: la narrativa amb què se’n dóna compte, amb què s’inventen els orígens o amb què se’n domina el saber, constitueix un discurs molt poderós a l’hora de concebre i regular teories i models literaris i legitimar i denigrar tradicions i polítiques culturals i lingüístiques a l’Europa renaixentista. En aquest treball, s’examina com es dissenyen i amb quines finalitats teòriques i ideològiques es fan servir els relats sobre els orígens de la poesia antiga i moderna que s’escriuen a Itàlia durant els segles XV i XVI. Aquesta anàlisi permet explicar la formació d’un dels principals fronts de la historiografia literària del Renaixement, massa sovint ignorada per la crítica, i exposar alhora les funcions que exerceix en la configuració de les poètiques de la primera modernitat. / Renaissance historians share an old conviction: to fully and thoroughly know what they study, they have to discover and understand its origins. This principle explains why the accounts on the causes and inventors of poetry and the narratives told from the origins represent the most relevant and productive type of historiography in sixteenth century poetics. However, understanding origins is not the only purpose of this historical task: narrative on the origins of poetry reveals itself as a very powerful discourse to conceive of literary theories and models and to legitimize and denigrate cultural and linguistic traditions and politics in Renaissance Europe. This work examines how the narrative on the origins of ancient and modern poetry written in fifteenth and sixteenth century Italy is designed and exploited for theoretical and ideological purposes. This analysis allows to explain the making of one of the most important genres of Renaissance literary history (though often neglected by scholarship) and its role in the configuration of early modern poetics.
