It focus on proverbs in Czech and Hungarian languages, which are closely connected with the history as being Central European nations. Historical background is mounted directly on the national territory (including historical area) or in the other state. The first part brings the reader a general overview of phraseology. Trying to explain the theme of phraseology. The second part focuses specifically on individual idioms. Each phrase is accompanied by a brief explanation to the reader to verify that it understands correctly and completely understands it. In the case of Hungarian idioms are translated into Czech. Follows the approach of historical events with regard to their relevance and impact on other events in the country. Primary sources in fifth gradeTomanec, Eric Randall 29 January 2013 (has links)
The work which follows arose from the examination of three fifth grade social studies textbooks widely adopted and accepted in the State of Texas. Within these history textbooks, seven historical events which occurred during the American Revolution were investigated to determine how primary sources are represented in each selected textbook to support a version of the historical event they accompany.
The research question guiding this qualitative study was: How do fifth grade social studies textbooks present primary sources in an American Revolution unit of study.
To answer this question, I analyzed the three fifth grade social studies textbooks’ American Revolution unit of study. Historical events common to the textbooks and included in the unit of study were Tax Laws, The Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s Ride, Lexington and Concord, The Battle of Bunker Hill, and The Declaration of Independence. Within the textbooks’ American Revolution units of study, the following primary sources were found: quotes, written documents, photographs, cartoons, posters, maps, artifacts, paintings, and sculpture or statuary.
The researcher discovered three findings related to the representation of primary
sources in the fifth grade social studies textbooks. These include the conundrum of fact,
monolithic representation, and verisimilitude. Suggestions for improving school history
textbooks and opportunities for future research are included. / text

Historical Context, Institutional Change, Organizational Structure, and the Mental Illness CareerWalter, Charles Thomas 24 January 2013 (has links)
This dissertation demonstrates how patients' mental illness treatment careers depend on the change and/or stability among differing levels of social structure. Theorists of the mental illness career tend to ignore the role that higher levels of social structural change have on individuals' mental illness career. Researchers using an organizational perspective tend to focus on the organizational environment but ignore the treatment process from the individual's point of view. Both perspectives neglect what the nation-state's broader socio-political and economic circumstances could imply for people seeking treatment for mental disorders. Organizational theory and theories of the mental illness career are independent theoretical streams that remain separate. This dissertation connects these independent theoretical streams by developing a unifying theoretical framework based on historical analysis. This historical analysis covers three phases of treatment beginning at the end of World War II to the present. This framework identifies mechanisms through which changes in larger levels of social structure can change the experience and career of mental patients. This new perspective challenges current conceptions of the mental illness career as static by accounting for the various levels of social structure that play a part in the mental illness treatment career. Taken together, the inclusion of differing levels of social structure and the subsequent reciprocal relationship between these levels of analysis produce a narrative that explains why and how stability and change within the mental health sector shape the mental illness treatment career. / Ph. Previous issue date: 2011-05-11 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The organizational studies researches have changed focus over the years, the changes
observed are largely influenced by the environment and the way individuals understand
the world. One of the influencers, from both the environment and the way individuals
see the world, are the historical events. Events like Second World War changed the way
individuals see and understand the world and other individuals, restructured
geographical areas and political and social environments. These changes have generated
and generate changes in organizational studies perspectives, all around the world. To
understand if organizational studies, in Brazil, were affected by historical events, similar
to those that influenced research changes in this area in other parts of world, was the
initial motivation of this work. The objective was to verify whether the organizational
studies researches, in Brazil, suffered the impact of historical world events, in the past
decades. To achieve this goal, several articles in two journals were analyzed, the journal
RAE - Revista de Administração de Empresas, of Getúlio Vargas Foundation, and the
journal RAUSP, Revista de Administração, of the São Paulo University, available on
the Internet, in the years from 1965 until 2009. Through a parallel between the
approaches indicated by March (2007), to determine characteristics that reflect the
historical events impact in the organizational studies researches, and identified
characteristics in Brazilian studies, this study aimed to show how Brazilian researches

Rural demographic change over space and time - the case of Vilhelmina municipalityYoshida Ahlin, Celia January 2015 (has links)
Since the 1960s the literature on demography of rural northern Sweden has focussed on 'decline' - noting loss of population, population ageing, yourth outmigration and other 'negative' demographic developments (Friedlander, 1969; Hjort, 2009; Stone 1971); recent studies suggest that such generalizations may overlook the diversity of experiences of rural areas (D. Carson and Koch, 2013; Cernic-Maly, Koch and Koch, 2014; Hedlund, 2014; Hoggart and Paniagua, 2001; Koch and Carson, 2012). The purpose of this thesis is to explore aspets of the diversity of experiences of demographic change in one part of rural northern Sweden, focusing on differences between villages and towns within a single municipality. Theoretically, the large body of scientific studies of 'rural' tend to be at macro-scale and from the 'urban' perspective, which might provide generalized and biased assumptions of 'rural'; this study may contribute to the understanding of 'rural' by describing it 'how it really is' and by looking into demographic diversity and change at the micro-scale. Practically, the thesis might assist local planners to take 'place-based' decisions when planning for the future of rural areas when deciding where to place schools, health centres, youth activities centres, playgrounds, or invest in economic opportunities, etc. Moreover, this thesis should answer the following research questions: Q1: Is there diversity in demographic characteristics when comparing proximate locations in the Swedish rural setting? Q2: If there is, is it something that has recently emerged, or sothing that has been present for a long period of history? The thesis studied the case of Vilhelmina municipality, in this case defined by local government boundaries, in three stages: first, looked at how settlement patterns within the area have changed over time - where has there been population growth? Decline? Both? Neither? - using data from 1890, 1970 and 2015. Second, selected five individual locations (defined by village' borders) within the area that have featured at those points in time, and compared them in terms of age, sex, age dependency ratios, and child-woman rates. Third, accessed secondary historical data and interviewed key informants with knowledge of these places to check which events could have influenced shaping them over the time. The findings of the thesis were: 'fragmentedä development over time, differences between individual places at different time; differences between different places at the same time; local, regional, national and international events and trends are likely to have played a role in these results. According to the findings, I can conclude that even since the 1960s, not all locations in rural northern Sweden have had the same experience of 'decline'. Furthermore, not all places share the presumed characteristics of rural areas - i.e. some are younger and some are older, etc. Hence, even the same events influence proximate places in different ways depending on their specific location (e.g. near geographical feature that become more or less valued), their connections with other places (through economic activities, communications, family ties, etc), rules and regulations especially regarding land use, and availability of infrastructure. This thesis describes the demographics of a case in rural northern Sweden in the micro perspective related to temporal and spatial scales. This study provides empirical evidence and might support arguments about the importance of scale and diversity of rural conditions. Moreover, it emphasises, as Koch and Carson (2012) did, the need to understand the spatial scale at which assessments of rural demographic change are being made. Lastly, more academics should perform this genre of research, so that we move past incomplete messages and concepts about rural development that have dominated in northern Sweden since the 1960s.

Narrativa de histórias pessoais: um caminho de compreensão de si mesmo à luz do pensamento de Hannah ArendtCamasmie, Ana Tereza 18 May 2007 (has links)

Previous issue date: 2007-05-18 / The present study aims to connect the conception offered by the philosopher Hannah Arendt about the narratives of historical events with narrative of personal facts, most specifically the ones that occur during clinical psychology, rendering favourable the comprehension that man may have about himself, as the co-author of his own life.
The starting-point for these thoughts concerns the way of life of the modern man, who, rooted out and heir of a world broken up with tradition, may become ill as an alternative to stand living. The growing absence of public spaces for the search of common benefit has been restricting people s suffering to the private ambit, making illness be understood as a biological or affective deficiency, thus individual.
This effort in seeking in philosophy bases to the clinical work reflection is justified by the interest in understanding human existence in order to amplify the specific view of psychology about the so-called psychic sufferings. Arendt s philosophy offers resources for this consideration, most specifically about the concepts of narrative and comprehension that can be transferred to the psychotherapy extent.
Understanding oneself by telling its own story is based on the idea that allows the actor of a biography to become a self-spectator as well as a narrator to the others. Nevertheless, this activity is not solitary. In order to make the self-comprehension happen it is necessary for the personal stories narrative to be dialogical, thus presenced by a witness and arisen from a truths discoverer meeting.

Reflexe soumraku Britského impéria ve vybraných dílech anglicky psané krásné literatury / The Reflection of the Twilight of the British Empire in the Selected Works of the English Belles-LettresBanasinský, Vít January 2012 (has links)
In the British Empire many revolutionary changes took place from the 1850s. In my thesis I focused on the analysis of those issues and phenomena which are sufficiently reflected in the English-language belles-lettres, along with a comparison of topics in a historical context in those thematic areas where the comparison is possible, but even in those where possibility of feedback is missing. Given the specificity of the whole work is an introduction and conclusion concerns the question of literary texts as a study of sources. The aim is to answer the question whether the use of belles-lettres as a source in this particular topic is possible, and if so, under what conditions.
