Audit fees are explored in this study in the light of International Financial Reporting Standards - IFRS for companies in Latin America issued American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) on the New York Stock Exchange - NYSE. The Securities and Exchange Commission - SEC made optional the disclosure of financial statements from 2007 under IFRS on the NYSE. Based on this premise, a sample of 51 Latin companies was defined and from the year of voluntary adoption of each to IFRS, defined the periods before and post IFRS by company. Therefore, to check the behavior of mandatory audit fees and total audit fees that includes in addition to the mandatory audit fees, non-audit fees, three scenarios tests were identified whose first contains all 51 companies in the sample, the second contains only Brazilian companies and the third the Latin companies with the exception of Brazil. The findings suggest that IFRS has impacted negatively both audit fees as the total audit fees of companies in the sample in the first and third scenarios. For Brazilian companies to adopt IFRS was not significant. It follows that the high level of quality of the information of the sample companies to be listed on the NYSE and therefore accustomed to high standards of requirements of regulations of the SEC as well as to perform reconciliation to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States - US GAAP having internal controls SOx, most being audited by the Big Four and the high level of internal staff contribute to justify such results.
