The present study is a critical analysis of the social and environmental conflicts produced by the implementation process of the housing public policy of social interest in Recife, having as study area the Special Zone of Social Interest of Coelhos, located in the central area of the city. Thus, the research sought to identify the nature of the most prominent social and environmental conflicts of the actuality related a this policy, identifying especially those that emerge according the realization of great works linked to the reorganization of urban space in the city following the logic of capital. Therefore, it is characterized the territory in which the conflicts are occurring, in order to get up and deepen the analysis about its main social and environmental impacts; then to evaluate in which measure the housing policy of social interest is most appropriate to the hegemonic interests facing the city of capital or those of the affected populations that always were despised by the large and simplistic urban projects. The methodological approach includes, under the paradigm of complexity, interdisciplinary analysis procedures, through a critical perspective which is evidenced by the way how the policy conceives and treats the relations between man-man and man-environment, thus demonstrating its contradictory aspects in the form of appropriation the territory by the various social actors involved. It was verified that the main action of the housing policy of social interest in the area of study revealed to be oblivious to territorial specificities and the real needs of families target of the policy. Furthermore, it was found that the lack of guidelines which describing a clear purpose in implementing the housing policy of social interest in Recife entails the incoordination of the actions of this policy, which occasionally conducted cancel or limit the effects alluded of some actions to others.

Reforming Federal Indian Housing Programs: The Socio-Cultural, Political, & Health Benefits of Utilizing Indigenous Epistemologies & Architecture

January 2020 (has links)
abstract: The relationship between settler-colonial governments and Indigenous nations has been a contentious one, filled with disingenuity and fueled by the abuse of power dynamics. Specifically, colonial governments have repeatedly used power in mapping, cultural Othering, resource control, and research methodologies to assimilate, acculturate, or otherwise dominate every aspect of Indigenous lives. A relatively recent pushback from Indigenous peoples led to the slow reclamation of sovereignty, including in the United States. Revamped federal Indian programs allegedly promote tribal self-determination, yet they paradoxically serve a vast quantity of cultures through singular blanket programs that are blind to the cultural component of Indigenous identity - the centerfold of colonial aggression for centuries. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Public and Indian Housing is no exception, using a Western framework to provide generic services that neither serve cultural needs nor are tailored to the specific environment traditional homes were historically and epistemologically suited for. This research analyzes the successes of new programs as well as the failures of the federal government to conduct responsible research and promote the authentic self-determination of tribes in terms of housing and urban development. It also considers the successes and failures of tribes to effectively engage in program reformation negotiation, community planning, and accountability measures to ensure their communities are served with enough culturally-appropriate, sustainable housing without mistrusting their own housing entities. Solutions for revising this service gap are proposed, adhering to a framework that centers diverse cultural values, community input, and functional design to increase each tribe’s implementation of self-determination in HUD housing programs. / Dissertation/Thesis / Masters Thesis American Indian Studies 2020

Mixed-Income Housing: Assumptions and Realities

Hoving, Kimberly M 01 June 2010 (has links)
Current Federal, State, and local San Francisco housing policy advocates mixed-income housing as a positive approach to creating living environments for low-income families. Strategies for creating mixed-income housing environments include large-scale public housing re-development efforts, inclusionary housing policies, and the use of discretionary funding for mixed-income development projects. Researchers agree that there is not yet enough evidence to support that mixed-income strategies are achieving positive results and have noted that the expected outcomes for mixed-income strategies are founded upon a number of assumptions. It is assumed that a mix of households at varying income levels will result in greater stability, improved access to services and resources, opportunities for social networking, and greater social control leading. This study addresses the root of these assumptions and presents findings regarding the perceived success of mixed-income development in realizing desired outcomes. Results are presented based on in-depth interviews with housing industry experts. This study aims to provide a clearer picture of why mixed-income development has gained popularity and how the strategy may be better understood and utilized in future housing development.

Bytová politika a dostupnost bydlení v Rychnově nad Kněžnou / Housing policy and housing availability in Rychnov nad Kněžnou

Tojnar, Jiří January 2019 (has links)
The subject of the research is regional housing policy. It is defined as a kind of public policy investigated on the conditions of the selected region. This is a problem that is still very little theoretically elaborated. The theoretical framework (concept) of "housing policy" as a kind ("subset") of public policy ", which has its actors, objectives, content, assumptions and subject orientation, will be elaborated. Then this problem is solved in the case of Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The city has two major problems. Collapsing transport infrastructure and a lack of housing in private or urban property. The problem of shortage of flats is connected with other social problems such as the creation of illegal hostels, overuse of apartments by a large number of people - more waste, insufficient civic amenities. The city leadership would like to address the problem with a new construction but does not have sufficient resources to do so. Construction by private investors is also not jeopardized. By developing a building, the city would like to attract more families and employees' partners who would easily find jobs in various fields. By city dwellings and regulated rent the city would like to restrict illegal hostels. Similarly, it could offer apartments for families with children or start-ups for young people....

Wohnraum Atlas Göttingen: Wohnunsversorgung und Wohnungspolitik in Göttin seit 2010.: Fakten - Analysen - Perspektiven

Frieling, Hans-Dieter von, Mießner, Michael, Marlow, Robin 12 May 2020 (has links)
Household overcrowding in Stockholm : A study of its spatial distribution and associations with socio-economic, demographic and housing characteristics at a small-scale neighborhood level

Falk, Sanna January 2021 (has links)
Existing studies of household overcrowding in Sweden are often descriptive and examine patterns at a large scale. Levels of overcrowding have increased since the mid-1980s and the highest shares are found in the largest cities among residents with a low income, a migration background, living in rental apartments, and often with children. The aim of this thesis is to increase the understanding of the measurements of household overcrowding, its development over time, its spatial patterns and its determinants at a small-scale neighborhood level with application to the City of Stockholm. It examines how the associations between overcrowding and other neighborhood characteristics can be understood in different neighborhood settings and what the implications are of using different scales and definitions of overcrowding. Cluster, correlation and regression analyses have been conducted using administrative data aggregated to key code areas and city districts. The results demonstrate that there are two types of overcrowding within the City of Stockholm, which are spatially separated and associated differently with socio-economic, demographic and housing characteristics of neighborhoods. It is suggested that explanatory segregation theories related to preference and economic and discriminatory structures are needed to understand the uneven spatial distribution of overcrowding in the City of Stockholm.
