National Security Strategy of Australia , 1991~2004

Lin, Tzun-Han 18 June 2005 (has links)
Australia, a country of Oceania, was one of the British colonies. Therefore, the relationship among Australia, European countries and American is closer than with Asia countries in aspects of politics, economy, diplomacy and culture. Basically, from the geographical strategic point of view, Australia locates near the Asia-Pacific Zone that impels Australia greatly depends on its neighboring countries. Especially the national security and economical benefit of Australia relies on the stability and development of the Southeast Asia countries. After WWII, the economy in Southeast Asia grows significantly which forced Australia to enhance its communication with the countries of Asia Pacific Zone to sustain its national security and economical benefit. From post Cold-War period to 2004, in order to respond the change of international situation, the security and strategy of Australia under the instructions of the Defense White Paper and the Foreign Trade Policy White Paper are as the following: ¡]1¡^Maintain strong military capability which is able to defend Australia;¡]2¡^Maintain and reinforce the traditional alliance with Europe and America;¡]3¡^vigorously maintain the security and stability of the neighboring countries;¡]4¡^Support multilateral regional security mechanism in Asia-Pacific region;¡]5¡^Participate in the UN. Therefore, according to the papers, the Australia national security strategy can be categorized into two principal axises. First, maintain the security alliance with the United Stated, to acquire various resources from the United States. In hence, Australia would become a great country in the region. Secondly, build a buffer zone of Australia by maintaining the stability of the region and the completion of Indonesia territory, avoiding the turbulent of neighboring region and evade it becoming the hotbed of terrorists.

The Canonization of Two Underground Classics: Howard O'Hagan's Tay John and Malcolm Lowry's Under the Volcano

Fee, Margery January 1992 (has links)
The reception of O'Hagan's Tay John and that of Lowry's Under the Volcano is compared. Although both authors were familiar with avant-garde modernist writing and art, O'Hagan buried his sophisticated allusions and presented himself, not as a well-educated lawyer, but as a "mountain man." Lowry appealed to a much wider audience.

A comparative analysis of the ideal of community in the thought of Howard Thurman and Martin Luther King, Jr

Fluker, Walter Earl January 1988 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.)--Boston University / Howard Thurman (1900-1981) and Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968) were both Christian pastors and social prophets who made significant contributions to the religious and social life of America and the world. Although Howard Thurman is the lesser known of the two, his life and ministry influenced many individuals (including King) who have impacted American society and the larger world community. Both thinkers were also black Americans whose earliest experiences of oppression based on the coalescence of color and race in the segregated South had a profound impact on their quests and interpretations of human community. The message and ministry of Howard G. Hendricks in Christian higher education

Lincoln, Lawrence H. 05 1900 (has links)
Howard G. Hendricks influenced generations of leaders in Christian education during the last half of the 20th century through the practical communication of his unique message and the personal nature of his teaching ministry. This study explored his life through interpretive biography, compared his message with current models of secular and religious education, and evaluated his ministry through case study research. Hendricks has contributed to the field of Christian higher education through the publication of several books and periodical articles, as well as film series, audiotapes, and videotapes. He has presented thousands of messages across America and in over 75 countries worldwide. Hendricks has spent his entire 50-year educational career at Dallas Theological Seminary, teaching in the classroom, mentoring his students, and modeling positive values of Christian leadership. Chapter 1 introduces the study, explains the purpose and significance of the project, and defines key terms. Chapter 2 describes the methodology employed for the study. Chapter 3 provides an interpretive biography of Hendricks, and chapter 4 compares the educational philosophy of Hendricks with secular and Christian models. Chapter 5 examines the ministry of Hendricks in a case study approach. Chapter 6 summarizes the study and offers conclusions and implications for future research.

Suzukimetoden : Några elevröster / The Suzuki Method : Selected Views From Pupils

Gustavsson, Ida January 2012 (has links)
This essay is about the Suzuki method. The purpose of this work is to describe the method and its strengths and weaknesses and to gain an understanding of how former Suzuki students view their studies in the Suzuki method.   The theoretical background consists of Lev Vygotsky and Howard Gardner’s theories. In addition to literature studies, I conducted interviews with six young adults who were Suzuki students and who chose to quit playing when becoming teenagers. It is their stories that are the study’s empirical evidence.   The results indicate that the Suzuki studies were very positive for them. Above all, they refer to the sense of community they felt as Suzuki students. Camp, friends and group lessons are fun memories that they share and which have been a positive influence. The positive reviews of teaching predominate. However, the study shows certain areas that teachers and parents need to reflect on. It affects note learning, excessive parental involvement and competition
