The purpose of this essay is to analyse if there exist contradictions in the feminist discourse and the reason behind this in the novel I, Rigoberta Menchú: An Indian Woman in Guatemala. The novel is considered a testimony and is the result of an interview between the writer Elisabeth Burgos and Rigoberta Menchú. The text is characterised by the narrator as the protagonist. In the analyse, the perspective of feminist postcolonialism is applied, as well as the feminist discourse in Latin America and the concepts of Discourse studies by Chantal Mouffe and Ernesto Laclau. The analyse demonstrates that there exist contradictions in the feminist discourse, divided between one written discourse and one that expressed with actions. It also exists a division in the feminist discourse regarding the personal and public feminism that Menchú displays. The reason why these contradictions exist is because the feminist discourse is affected by the different contexts that it exists within. In conclusion, the novel demonstrate that these contradictions are a result of the social structures that originate from the colonial era, and that Menchú upholds them in her struggle for human rights.

Blankaholme is a small islet located at the mouth of a river that stretches inland for about 7 km. On the islet are remains of a fortress together with what appears to be a defence-structure underneath the surface of the river, which has led people to speculate over for what purpose it was build, by who and when. At the baltic Sea outside Blankaholme is Misterhult archipelago located which contains several islands with old names, indicating a rather vast defence-organisation has been in place using bonfire for signalling when enemy-ships been sighted. The aim with this study is to place Blankaholme in a historical perspective.

This thesis investigates how the economic crisis, later known as the great depression which harvested especially the Western world during the 1930s, was depicted by the Swedish newspapers between the great crash on the stock market on Wall Street in New York 1929 until 1931. The purpose of this thesis is to see how the depiction of the crisis looked like in the Swedish newspapers during the time being and to see if there were any differences between newspapers that were of different political standings. Also, part of the purpose is to try to locate any changes in their way of depicting the crisis during the time that is being investigated. The theoretical and methodological approach is based on critical discourse analysis as presented by Norman Fairclough and the investigation of the newspapers has mainly been based on a textual analysis of their use of language but also an analysis of their arguments and presented ideas has been done. Their arguments were often politically bounded and their way of expressing their thoughts on the matter were generally with a high degree of confidence. The conclusion is that the newspapers in Sweden were depicting the economic crisis in ways which were dependant on their different political boundaries.

Tidigare forskning visar att bristande lärandestrategier kan ligga till grund för elevers svårigheter att nå målen i skolan (Dunlosky, Rawson, Marsh, Nathan, Willingham, 2013). Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur lärare arbetar med studieteknik och lärandestrategier i undervisningen. 10 gymnasielärare, 7 män och 3 kvinnor som undervisar i teoretiska ämnen deltog i studien. Data samlades in med hjälp av semi-strukturerade intervjuer och analyserades med hjälp av Burnards 14-stegs modell som resulterade i fyra kategorier: gruppstrategier, lärandestrategier, elevfokuserat och lärarens roll med två till fem underkategorier vardera. Resultatet visade att lärare arbetade med olika gruppkonstellationer och lärandestrategier för att effektivisera inlärningen hos eleverna. För att skapa intresse och motivation utgick undervisningen från eleverna. Om en elev hade bra relation med lärare ökade prestationen i skolan. Studien visar att det finns vetenskapliga strategier som optimerar förutsättningarna för eleverna men lärare utgår istället från tidigare erfarenheter. Studien kan användas för lärare att se för- och nackdelar med olika lärandestrategier och hur de påverkar inlärning hos elever.
