Hybrid Routing Protocol Based on k-hop Clustering Structure in MANETs

This paper proposes a hybrid routing protocol based on the k-hop clustering structure for MANETs. The source sends packets to the destination directly if it is in the source¡¦s neighbor table; otherwise the source reactively sends the route request packet (RREQ) to trigger the routing process. Instead of adopting the nodes that forwards the RREQ as the route between the source and destination, the route reply packet (RREP) is broadcasted via the nodes in the clusters that the RREQ has ever passed to find the route. The route constructed in this way can avoid the clusterheads always being in the transmission route and collapsing due to overloading. In comparison with the Cluster Based Routing Protocol (CBRP), the proposed protocol can distribute the communication workload from the clusterheads to member nodes. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed protocol has better packet delivery ratio and end-to-end delay time than that of CBRP.

In this thesis, an investigation of the performance of multipath routing in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is performed. The communication in the network under study is to take place from individual nodes to the sink node. The investigation involved multipath finding methods in WSN. Also, it involves investigating the weight assignment, traffic splitting and route selection methods for the different paths discovered by each node in the WSN. Also, a comparison between Hybrid Routing Protocol, Source Routing Protocol and Diffusion Routing Protocol is performed. A simple traffic routing algorithm for each routing protocol has been developed to conceptualize how the network traffic is routed on a set of active paths. The investigation of the Hybrid, Source and Diffusion Routing Protocol involved using multiple paths simultaneously to transmit messages that belong to the same flow by using a weight assigned to each path and transmit each message as a whole. Finally, the power consumption and the QoS in terms of message delays for a WSN were investigated and compared between different protocols.

An Effective Scheme for Detecting Articulation Points in Zone Routing Protocol

Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is a typical hybrid routing protocol used in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). Hybrid routing protocols are especially suitable for dynamic environments because they combine the best features of proactive and reactive routing protocols. The Gossip-based Zone Routing Protocol (GZRP) uses a gossip scheme, in which the node forwards a packet to some nodes instead of all nodes to further reduce the control overhead. However, GZRP does not perform well when the network includes articulation points since packets will be lost if an articulation node happens not to forward the packet or nodes happen not to forward packets to the articulation point. To raise the packet delivery ratio, the gossip probability of articulation points must be set to 1 and the packets to be forwarded must be sent to the articulation points in peripheral nodes. Accordingly, how to identify articulation nodes in the network becomes a critical issue. This paper proposes an effective scheme, called articulation point detection (APD), to find the articulation points. Simulation results show that the proposed APD-GZRP (GZRP with articulation point detection) can improve the packet delivery ratio and reduce both the control overhead and power consumption.

Hybrid Heterogeneous Routing Scheme for Improved Network Performance in WSNs for Animal Tracking

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) experiences several technical challenges such as limited energy, short transmission range, limited storage capacities, and limited computational capabilities. Moreover, the sensor nodes are deployed randomly and massively over an inaccessible or hostile region. Hence, WSNs are vulnerable to adversaries and are usually operated in a dynamic and unreliable environment. Animal tracking using wireless sensors is one such application of WSN where power management plays a vital role. In this paper, an energy-efficient hybrid routing method is proposed that divides the whole network into smaller regions based on sensor location and chooses the routing scheme accordingly. The sensor network consists of a base station (BS) located at a distant place outside the network, and a relay node is placed inside the network for direct communications from nodes nearer to it. The nodes are further divided into two categories based on the supplied energy; such that the ones located far away from BS and relay have higher energy than the nodes nearer to them. The network performance of the proposed method is compared with protocols like LEACH, SEP, and SNRP, considering parameters like stability period, throughput and energy consumption. Simulation result shows that the proposed method outperforms other methods with better network performance.

Etude de la fatigue des roulements hybrides en conditions de fonctionnement aggravées / Study on hybrid bearings rolling contact fatigue under severized stress conditions

Ce travail est consacré à l’étude de la fatigue des roulements hybrides (Si3N4 / M50 Duplex) soumis à des sollicitations extrêmes. Dans un premier temps, nous avons étudié le comportement expérimental du M50 trempé et du M50 Duplex sollicités en fatigue de roulement en présence d’indentation artificielle, dans le cas d’un contact hybride. Nous avons alors pu mettre en évidence le rôle prépondérant du glissement et nous avons pu caractériser et localiser l’endommagement relatif à ces conditions extrêmes. Aussi deux études portant sur la fissuration des éléments M50 Duplex, fissures radiales en bord d’indent, et sur la fissuration des éléments céramique Si3N4, sous forme de C-Cracks, ont été réalisées et ont permis d’évaluer la résistance de ces matériaux en sollicitation aggravée. Dans une seconde étape, nous avons mis au point une méthode d’évaluation du gradient de plasticité par mesure de la micro-dureté qui nous a permis de caractériser le M50 Duplex dans la zone de diffusion de la nitruration. Le processus d’indentation a alors été simulé par le logiciel éléments finis ABAQUS. Ces simulations ont permis d’analyser les mécanismes responsables de la fissuration des indents sur M50 Duplex. Enfin une étude numérique tridimensionnelle du roulement sur indent a été réalisée via le code semi-analytique ISAAC, développé au laboratoire LAMCOS de l’INSA de Lyon. Cette étude a permis d’évaluer le cycle de chargement au voisinage d’indents sollicités en fatigue de roulement. L’application du critère de Dang Van à ce cycle de sollicitation a alors permis de donner des indications quant à la prédiction de l’endommagement au voisinage d’indents. / This study focuses on the hybrid bearings fatigue (Si3N4 / Duplex M50) which are submitted to extreme stresses. Firstly, we studied the rolling contact fatigue of artificially dented rollers made of through-hardened M50 and Duplex M50, in the case of hybrid contact. We have been consequently able to highlight the prominent role of the sliding. We also characterized and located the damage due to the extreme conditions. What is more, two studies have been led: one about the cracking damage of Duplex M50 rollers, especially radial cracks on dent edges, the other about the cracking damage of silicon nitride rollers, especially C-shaped cracks. These studies allowed to assess the material strength in conditions of severized stresses. Secondly, we developed an assessment method of the plastic gradient through micro-hardness measurings. This process allowed us to characterize the Duplex M50 in the diffusion layer formed during nitriding. The denting process was then simulated using the ABAQUS finite element software. The simulations made it possible to analyze the mechanisms responsible for the cracking of dents made on Duplex M50. Eventually, a tridimensional numerical study focusing on dent over-rolling has been led using the ISAAC semi-analytical code, computed at the LAMCOS laboratory of INSA-Lyon (Lyon, FRANCE). This study made it possible to evaluate the loading path in the vicinity of dents submitted to RCF. The use of Dang Van criterion then allowed to give indications about damage prediction in the vicinity of dents.

Network layer reliability and security in energy harvesting wireless sensor networks

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become pivotal in precision agriculture, environmental monitoring, and smart healthcare applications. However, the challenges of energy consumption and security, particularly concerning the reliance on large battery-operated nodes, pose significant hurdles for these networks. Energy-harvesting wireless sensor networks (EH-WSNs) emerged as a solution, enabling nodes to replenish energy from the environment remotely. Yet, the transition to EH-WSNs brought forth new obstacles in ensuring reliable and secure data transmission. In our initial study, we tackled the intermittent connectivity issue prevalent in EH-WSNs due to the dynamic behavior of energy harvesting nodes. Rapid shifts between ON and OFF states led to frequent changes in network topology, causing reduced link stability. To counter this, we introduced the hybrid routing method (HRM), amalgamating grid-based and opportunistic-based routing. HRM incorporated a packet fragmentation mechanism and cooperative localization for both static and mobile networks. Simulation results demonstrated HRM's superior performance, enhancing key metrics such as throughput, packet delivery ratio, and energy consumption in comparison to existing energy-aware adaptive opportunistic routing approaches. Our second research focused on countering emerging threats, particularly the malicious energy attack (MEA), which remotely powers specific nodes to manipulate routing paths. We developed intelligent energy attack methods utilizing Q-learning and Policy Gradient techniques. These methods enhanced attacking capabilities across diverse network settings without requiring internal network information. Simulation results showcased the efficacy of our intelligent methods in diverting traffic loads through compromised nodes, highlighting their superiority over traditional approaches. In our third study, we developed a deep learning-based two-stage framework to detect MEAs. Utilizing a stacked residual network (SR-Net) for global classification and a stacked LSTM network (SL-Net) to pinpoint specific compromised nodes, our approach demonstrated high detection accuracy. By deploying trained models as defenses, our method outperformed traditional threshold filtering techniques, emphasizing its accuracy in detecting MEAs and securing EH-WSNs. In summary, our research significantly advances the reliability and security of EH-WSN, particularly focusing on enhancing the network layer. These findings offer promising avenues for securing the future of wireless sensor technologies.

Směrování v bezdrátových sítích / Routing in Wireless Networks

This work deals with routing protocols for ad hoc wireless networks. First ad hoc networks are introduced. Routing protocols are then classified according to several criteria. Four routing protocols algorithms are described. They are proactive protocols DSDV and CGSR, reactive DSR and hybrid ZRP. Next AODV routing protocol is described in details. Advantages and disadvantages of AODV and two variants of AODV are also introduced. A new protocol is designed based on the disadvantages of the AODV protocol. This work also describes the implementation and integration of the new protocol in the ns-2 simulator. Results of the simulations are presented.
