<div>Gerotor pumps are positive displacement pumps that are frequently used in low-pressure applications such as lubrication and charge pumps. They are characterized by their unique gearset that is an internal gearset with one tooth difference that has continuous contact throughout the entire rotation. Recent trends especially in the automotive industry suggest an increased demand for greater performance from these pumps, e.g. operating with higher pressure, higher speed, lower viscosity fluid, less noise emission, and greater energy efficiency. The shape of the gears is one of the most important aspects of a gerotor pump, as it determines the pump's size and flow, affects its internal leakages, and influences its amount of wear. Although gerotors have been in operation for nearly 100 years, no design methodology has emerged in scientific literature that fully considers all the main performance aspects simultaneously and identifies the best designs. This problem is made more difficult, as gerotors can have an infinite number of different types of profiles. The main goals of this work are therefore to define a method to design gerotor gear geometry for several performance goals, identify the best designs for a given gear profile type, compare the best designs among the various profile types, and invent a new profile type that can offer improved performance over conventional designs.</div><div><br></div><div>Gerotor profile generation is described in the beginning, first for the conventional epitrochoidal, hypotrochoidal, and standard cycloidal profile types. Then a description of how to generate gerotors from an arbitrary curve is given and applied to elliptical, generalized cycloidal, cosine, and asymmetric elliptical gerotors. The generalized cycloidal profile type is new to this work.</div><div><br></div><div>Multi-objective optimization is used as the method to identify the best gear profiles for a given application considering seven performance metrics and ensuring a feasible gear profile. The seven performance goals to minimize are the radius of a pump for a given geometric displacement and face width, the kinematic flow ripple, the adhesive wear, the contact stress, the tooth tip leakage, the lateral gap leakage, and the mean displacement chamber inlet velocity. The conditions to generate feasible gerotor profiles without cusps or self-intersections are also given as constraints for the optimizations.</div><div> </div><div> Seven gerotor profiles were then optimized using a genetic algorithm to consider all the performance aspects. The design space for each profile type was thoroughly explored, and clear Pareto fronts were identified. The Pareto fronts from each profile type were then combined, and a new Pareto front was identified from the best designs of each profile type. No single profile type proves to be objectively better than the others, but the epitrochoidal, hypotrochoidal, elliptical, and generalized cycloidal profile types tend to produce the best designs. Two methods to select a design from the Pareto front that consider the relative importance of each performance goal were presented.</div><div> </div><div> The optimization strategy was then further validated by demonstrating significant possible performance improvement over state-of-the-art designs in industry and suggesting alternative designs to a specific gearset used in industry that were tested in simulation and experiment. Two generalized cycloidal profiles were selected as alternative designs: the first design matched the fluid dynamic performance of the reference design with significantly reduced contact stress, and the second is a profile that could reduce the outlet flow ripple while fitting within the same pump housing. The contact stress of the reference and alternative designs when including clearance between the gears was compared in finite element analysis. Prototypes of the alternative designs were then manufactured and tested in experiment. The experimental pressure ripples of the alternative designs were compared, and the second design showed a reduction in outlet pressure ripple that validates the proposed design methodology.</div><div> </div><div> This work has thoroughly explored the performance possibilities of the gerotor mechanism and presented a method to select an optimal profile geometry depending on the desired performance characteristics. It has therefore accomplished its goals in making a contribution toward improving the performance gerotor gear geometry.</div>

The aim of this thesis is a design of an additional excavator with side shift for agricultural tractor with power from 50 to 70 kW. The excavator is controlled by a hydraulic circuit. The main element here is an independent pump with a 40l / min supply, which is driven by a gearbox using a cardan shaft. The hydraulic circuit has been designed so that the temperature of the hydraulic fluid does not exceed the allowable limit. An important role is played by the connection to the tractor where was used a modified three-point hitch. This coupling of the tractor with the frame of excavator ensures sufficient rigidity when performing excavation work. When calculating the excavation resistance, was considered the soil of the 4th class, this is hard-to-disconnect soil or clay. The calculation implies that the machine can be used with backhoe buckets up to 500 mm wide. Strength analysis of boom was performed in Ansys Workbench 2019. Safety coefficients were determined for individual components. The overall safety coefficient is equal to 1.7.

Electrohydraulic Power Steering Simulation : Dynamic, thermal and hydraulic modellingSvensson, Oskar January 2019 (has links)
There are several benets of electrohydraulic power steering systems, as compared to hydraulicpower steering systems where the pump is driven directly by the engine of the vehicle. Someof these benets are increased eciency and improved steering performance. The purpose ofthis project is to create a simulation model of the electrohydraulic power steering system inSimulink, excluding the hydraulic circuit. The model should thus consist of the electric motor,the drive electronics, the control system, the hydraulic pump as well as the communication andinterface to the master simulation system in which the model will be used.As a start a mathematical model of the motor is derived. Then the motor controller includingtwo current controllers and a speed controller is developed. The switching signals for the threephase bridge that drives the motor are calculated using space vector modulation. The motordrives a hydraulic pump, which is modeled using data sheet eciency curves. Finally a thermalmodel of the drive is developed. To fulll real time requirements, a lumped parameter approachis chosen. The nal model is exported as a Functional Mock-up Unit, which is a black-boxencapsulation of the complete simulation model.The simulation model is compared to measurement data to conrm its validity. Thesecomparisons shows that the dynamic response of the motor and its controller are close to themeasured values and that the thermal model adequately corresponds to the thermal tests. Thehydraulic pump model varied from measurements more than the other sub-modules. It was,however, seen as acceptable. Overall the system response was satisfactory, but naturally a lotof future improvements and new features could be made to improve the model. / Det finns flera fördelar med elektrohydraulisk servostyrning, där hydraulpumpen drivs av en el-motor, jämfört med hydraulisk servostyrning, där pumpen drivs direkt av fordonets förbränningsmotor. Några av dessa fördelar är ökad effektivitet och förbättrad styrprestanda. Syftet med detta projekt är att skapa en Simulink-modell av ett elektrohydraulisk system för servostyrning, exklusive hydraulkretsen. Modellen ska alltså bestå av delmodeller för elmotorn, drivelektroniken, styrsystemet, hydraulpumpen samt kommunikation med den övergripande simuleringsplattformen.Inledningsvis beskrivs en matematisk modell av elmotorn och efter det utvecklas motorstyrningen, bestående av två strömregulatorer samt en hastighetsregulator. Spänningen från strömregulatorerna uppnås genom space vector-modulation, som beräknar de pulskvoter som krävs för att uppnå denna spänning. Elmotorn driver en pump. Denna pump modelleras med hjälp av data från pumpens datablad. Slutligen modelleras drivelektronikens termiska egenskaper med ett termiskt nätverk. Den slutliga modellen omsluts av en Functional Mock-up Unit somintegreras i den övergripande simuleringsplattformen.

Design and experimental evaluations of a pump-controlled hydraulic circuitJalayeri, Ehsan 02 March 2016 (has links)
This thesis presents a novel, low cost, high precision , and efficient design for an electro-hydrostatic circuit for single rod hydraulic cylinders. The design is the main contribution of candidate to fulfill the regiments of PhD degree. The challenge of existing deigns of electro-hydrostatic circuits for single-rod cylinders is using one pump to control the cylinder under switching (resistive-assistive) loads. The proposed circuit utilizes off-the-shelf industrial elements. It uses two counterbalance valves to manage switching loads and one on/off solenoid valve to redirect the differential flow of the single rod cylinder to tank. A set of simulation studies is conducted using Simhydraulic tools of Matlab in order to study performances of the proposed circuit and compare it with existing designs. Pump-controlled hydraulic circuit for double rod cylinders was developed and is widely used by industry. It is used as the benchmark for simulation studies. As well, the proposed circuit and two major existing pump-controlled circuits for single rod cylinders are compared to the benchmark circuit. Evaluations are conducted by comparing chamber pressure responses as well as pressure vs position of the cylinder end-effector for each individual circuit. Results indicate that the proposed circuit performed as well as the benchmark circuit by controlling pressures to both sides of the cylinder at the same time. Moreover, the load in the proposed circuit is more controllable compared to the benchmark circuit. Experimental results, obtained from the developed test rig, validate accuracy of the simulation model. Maximum steady state position error of 0.06 mm applications is experimentally observed when the test rig is tested under different loading conditions with various amplitudes and frequencies. The circuit consumes up to 20% of the energy that is required by a valve controlled circuit given the same sinusoidal tracking signal. The relative efficiency of the proposed circuit over a valve

controlled circuit depends on the pattern and frequency of the tracking signal. In all the experiments, a simple proportional controller, which uses readings of a linear position transducer, is employed. The use of the proportional controller makes the proposed circuit easy to implement and shows it is good candidate for industrial applications. The accuracy of the position response of the proposed circuit indicates, it is a good candidate for robotic applications too. / May 2016

During the reservoir production life reservoir pressure will decline. Also after water breakthrough the fluid column weight will increase as hydrostatic pressure will increase because of increased water and oil mixture density. In this case, reservoir pressure may not be enough to lift up the fluid from bottom to the surface. These reasons decrease or even may cause to stop flowing of fluids from the well. Some techniques must be applied to prevent the production decline. Artificial lift techniques are applied to add energy to the produced fluids. It increases production rate by reducing down-hole pressure and so that by increasing the drawdown. Artificial lift techniques increase production either by pumping the produced fluid from the bottom to the surface or reduce bottom-hole pressure by reducing the fluid column weight as a result of decreased fluid mixture density. Artificial lift is used worldwide in approximately 85% of the wells, thus its impact in overall efficiency and profitability of production operations cannot be overemphasized.
The most important problem is how to select optimum artificial lift techniques by taking into consideration the reservoir, well, environmental conditions. Selection of poor technique could cause decrease in efficiency and low profitability. As a result, it will lead to high operating expenses. Several techniques have been developed for selection of optimum artificial lift techniques. Expert Systems (ES) is the most suitable technique used in these selection techniques. Because the use and availability of required parameters is easy. Also in this selection method most of the artificial lift techniques are analyzed rather than other selection techniques. Expert Systems program mainly consist of three modules: (1) Expert Module, (2) Design Module, and (3) Economic Module. By entering required data to the system, program automatically suggests the feasible artificial lift techniques those might be used referring to given data. In this thesis work the artificial lift selection criteria and Expert Systems available in the literature have been studied. A Microsoft Windows based program has been developed to predict suitability of artificial lift methods for a given set of wells and produced fluid parameters. For the selected artificial lift method (i.e. sucker rod pump, ESP, gas lift, hydraulic pump, PCP) the program is able to perform basic calculations for the given data. Different case studies have been performed by running the program with actual data from fields. Well data of Venezuela, Azerbaijan and Iranian oil fields has been used in case studies. The results have been compared with previous studies those have been done on these fields with other selection techniques and current artificial lift techniques are being applied in selected wells. The obtained program results have been overlap with current real field application and previous studies.

Physcial hydraulic model investigation of critical submergence for raised pump intakesKleynhans, S. H. 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2012. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Various design guidelines have been published over the past four decades to calculate the minimum submergence required at pump intakes to prevent vortex formation. These design guidelines also require the suction bell to be located not higher than 0.5 times the suction bell diameter (D) above the floor. Sand trap canals are an integral part of large river abstraction works, with the pump intakes located at the end of the sand trap canals. The canals need to be flushed by opening a gate, typically 1.5 m high, that is located downstream of the pump intake. This requires the suction bell be raised to not interfere with the flushing operation, which leads to the question – what impact does the raising of the suction bell have on the minimum required submergence? A physical hydraulic model constructed at 1:10 scale was used to determine the submergence required to prevent types 2, 5 and 6 vortices for prototype suction bell inlet velocities ranging from 0.9 m/s to 2.4 m/s, and for suction bells located at 0.5D, 1.0D and 1.5D above the floor. The tests were undertaken for four suction bell configurations with a conventional flat bottom suction bell, fitted with a long radius bend, being the preferred suction bell configuration in terms of the lowest required submergence levels. The experimental test results of the preferred suction bell configuration were compared against the published design guidelines to determine which published formula best represents the experimental test results for raised pump intakes. It became evident from the experimental test results that the required submergence increased markedly when the suction bell was raised higher than a certain level above the floor. It was concluded that this “discontinuity” in the required submergence occurred for all the suction bell configuration types when the ratio between the prototype bell inlet velocity and the approach canal velocity was approximately 6.0 or higher. It is recommended that, for pump intakes with a similar geometry to that tested with the physical hydraulic model, critical submergence is calculated using the equation published by Knauss (1987), i.e. S = D(0.5 + 2.0Fr), if the prototype bell inlet velocity/approach canal velocity ratio is less than 6.0, and that the equation published by the Hydraulic Institute (1998), i.e. S = D(1 + 2.3Fr), can be used where the ratio, as determined with Knauss’ (1987) equation, exceeds 6.0. It is also recommended that prototype bell inlet velocities be limited to 1.5 m/s. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Oor die afgelope vier dekades is verskeie ontwerpriglyne vir die berekening van minimum watervlakke, om werwelvorming by pompinlate te voorkom, gepubliseer. Uit die eksperimenttoetsresultate is dit duidelik dat die vereiste watervlakke skielik verhoog sodra die klokmond installasie ‘n seker hoogte bokant die kanaal vloer oorskry. Daar is bevind dat hierdie verskynsel by al vier klokmond konfigurasies voorkom sodra die verhouding tussen die prototipe klokmond inlaatsnelheid teenoor die snelheid in die kanaal hoër as 6.0 is. Daar word aanbeveel dat die minimum vereiste watervlak vir pompinlate met dieselfde geometrie as die fisiese model, met Knauss (1987) se vergelyking bereken word, naamlik S = D(0.5 + 2.0Fr), waar die snelheidsverhouding tussen die klokmond en kanaal 6.0 nie oorskry nie, en dat die vergelyking gepubliseer deur die Hydraulic Institute (1998), S = D(1 + 2.3Fr), gebruik word waar die snelheidsverhouding 6.0, so bereken met Knauss (1987) ser vergelyking, wel oorskry. Die prototipe klokmond inlaatsnelheid moet ook beperk word tot 1.5 m/s.
