Predicting inflow and infiltration to wastewater networks based on temperature measurements

Åsell, Martin January 2024 (has links)
Sewer pipelines are deteriorating due to aging and sub optimal material selections, leading to the infiltration of clean ground and rainfall water into the pipes. It is estimated that a significant portion (up to 40-50%) of the water entering wastewater treatment plants is actually clean infiltrated water. This infiltration not only contributes to unnecessary energy consumption but also poses the risk of flooding the sewer network and treatment plants. Finding these broken pipes is utmost importance but is not straight forward due to the pipes being located a few meters below ground. There exist methods of pinpointing where these leaks occur, but they are often time consuming and expensive. This thesis seeks to address the following question; Can the estimation of infiltration be accomplished solely through the temperature data obtained from discrete pump stations, or is the inclusion of precipitation data essential for achieving accurate results? Two machine learning algorithms are investigated to solve the regression problem of estimating the amount of rainfall derived infiltration. The first model is a classical linear regression model. The second model is a Convolutional neural network (CNN). Both of these models are trained on the same data set. The temperatures recorded at the stations are reliable and can be trusted. However, the data labeling process involves utilizing calculated flows to the stations during both dry and wet weather periods. This means that the labels of the data cannot be trusted to be the actual ground truth, and there exists an uncertainty in the data set. Both models manage to capture large temperature drops which indicates infiltration has occurred. The linear regression model seems to be too sensitive towards small temperature drops and predicts infiltration when there is none. The CNN model on the other hand seems to be able to capture only large temperature drops when infiltration occurs. However, both models are trained with data from only one station, this means that the models are biased towards the average temperature of that particular station, other stations may have a higher or lower average temperature. When testing the models on a different station with lower average temperature the models predict infiltration when there is none.

Transfer záalpských krajinných motivů v grafice do vybraných děl italských rytců na začátku 16. století / Transfer of transalpine landscape motifs in graphic art into selected works of Italian engravers of the early 16th century

Veselá, Markéta January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to illustrate the phenomenon of the transfer of the transalpine landscape motifs in graphic art into the works of Italian engravers at the beginning of the six- teenth century, and by using detailed analysis of these prints lead to a decision as to why these transfers occur so frequently, mainly in the years 1500-1520. Because only brief mentions of these transfers are found in the available literature on this topic, and then often only as a statement, I decided to tackle this phenomenon in the context of landscape specifications. In the introductory chapter there will be a concise overview of the cultural situation of the humanistic society, including its assumptions and a brief evolution of depiction of landscape art. Additionally there will be a chapter about the terminology used, which in addition to clarifying the terminology also helps to further the description of the proce- ss itself. The main part will of course be a chapter dedicated into selected items. There will also be descriptions of the graphic works of selected Italian engravers, especially in the comparison of transferred landscape motifs from works by Albrecht Dürer and Lucas van Leyden. Analy- sis of the individual prints will focus on elements transmitted in the background of the works. Iconography...

Utläckage från vattennät – en betydande källa till tillskottsvatten i spillvattennät? : Linjär regressionsanalys av VA-data från svenska kommuner / Leakage from drinking water systems – a significant source of I/I water in wastewater systems?

Ringqvist, Anna January 2021 (has links)
Infiltration and inflow of non-sewer water to wastewater systems (I/I water) poses a significant problem to health, economy, and the environment by affecting the capacity of the wastewater system. To determine effective measures to reduce the amount of I/I water, it is essential to identify its most important sources. In this thesis, the relationship between leaked drinking water and I/I water was investigated by using ordinary least squares (OLS) linear regression. The first question is whether there is a statistical relationship between the amount of drinking water leakages and the amount of I/I water in wastewater treatment plants in Swedish municipalities. Data from 207 Swedish municipalities were included in the analysis. The amount of unaccounted water, i.e. the difference between produced and charged drinking water, was used as a measure of water leakage. The second question treats the feasibility of statistically comparing municipalities to determine the importance of I/I water sources. The result of the OLS linear regression shows a statistically significant relationship between the level of unaccounted water and the level of I/I water in Swedish municipalities. This could be explained by a causal process where leaked drinking water infiltrates the wastewater system. Another explanation could be simultaneous problems in the water system and the wastewater system, potentially caused by the quality of the pipelines. However, caution should be exercised when drawing conclusions from statistical comparisons between water and wastewater flows in different municipalities. Variations in other aspects such as natural conditions and infrastructure, must also be considered.

Deset zastavení s Přemyslem Pittrem / Ten stops with Premysl Pitter

Štěpánová, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
This thesis deals with the personality of the Premysl Pitter, a time in which he lived. He was a man of humanism, tolerance, democracy supporter, ecumenism and one of the few who help without having. The aim of the thesis is to familiarize the reader with the most important events and aspects of his life. The work is divided into ten chapters and each will concentrate on one period in his life. The first chapter describes his childhood until his return from the World War I. In the second chapter, I tried to handle the growth of his thoughts and ideas in a European context. The third chapter is entitled "Milíč's house," where Premysl and his colleagues care for children of lower Zizkov. The fourth deals with " The Castles". The fifth chapter is called Pitter escape from Czechoslovakia. In the sixth chapter describes his work in the refugee camp Valka. The seventh chapter is devoted to his publishing work and stay in Switzerland. Eighth entitled "An educator and didactic activity" here, I tried to outline its most important pedagogical benefits and principle. The ninth chapter deals with life colleague of Pitter about Olga Fierz. The last chapter was compiled in table form, which I chose for its lucidity. In it, I carried the most important chronological dates, celebrities, whom he met, his writings and world...
