Estratégias de roteamento e de controle de acesso ao meio para redes de sensores sem fio destinadas a redes urbanas / Routing and medium access control strategies for wireless sensor networks in urban networks

Pantoni, Rodrigo Palucci 31 January 2012 (has links)
This work proposes routing and medium access control strategies for urban networks, particularly related to monitoring and control of electric variables in the street lighting system. Such strategies were developed according to application requirements, studies in the literature, limitations of the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol, and RFC 5548 and IEEE 802.15.4e (draft) specifications. Strategies were incorporated into protocols found in the literature, which generated specific improved protocols for urban networks, including GGPSR and Gradient based on the farthest neighbor, applied to divergent and convergent traffic, respectively. The GGPSR protocol is composed by the GPSR algorithm, geocast and retransmissions to neighbors according to the GGPSR criterion when a failure occurs. The protocol based on the longest distance comprises the gradient algorithm, which considers the longest distance when receivers have equal gradient weights and retransmissions follow the same criterion. A realistic propagation model was used, implementing the strategy to map neighboring nodes according to the approximate distance provided by the RSSI packet attribute. Moreover, for both traffic ypes, the RIT medium access control mechanism was used in order to minimize energy consumption. Protocols generated by these strategies were evaluated through simulation in NS-2 tool applied to large scale scenarios provided by public street lighting concessionaire Elektro, according to the criteria of remaining energy network, end-to-end average delay and end-to-end delivery rate. Results show that the generated protocols outperform protocols proposed in the literature; in addition, the strategy based on the distance obtained by the RSSI attribute enables the use of the GGPSR protocol. Regarding the use of RIT considering the parameters as a function of the gradient, this strategy is more efficient compared to using the same RIT parameters for all nodes.

Réseaux de capteurs sans fils multi-sauts à récupération d’énergie : routage et couche liaison de bas rapport cyclique / Multi-hop Energy Harvesting Wireless Sensor Networks : routing and low duty-cycle link layer

Varga, Liviu - Octavian 16 December 2015 (has links)
The goal of the thesis is to enable IPv6 harvested and autonomous wireless sensor networks with very low duty-cycle. It is part of an industrial project, GreenNet, hosted by STMicroelectronics with the goal of being a pioneer in the Internet of Things. The new platform differentiates from its existing competitors by a small size, which implies small battery capacity. However, a photovoltaic cell is capable of recharging the battery even under low light conditions. On top of this, we aim at nodes that sleep for very long periods. Hence, the existing solutions were not completely suited for ourneeds. The thesis proposes to analyze the possible challenges that one can meet while developing a harvested low-duty cycle platform. The most important contribution of this work is that we implement and evaluate the performance of our solutions on real hardware platforms in conditions very close to real-life.In this dissertation, we first of all develop and implement a basic solution based on the IEEE 802.15.4 beacon-enabled standard. We choose the synchronized mode because it allows nodes to reach duty-cycles as low as 0.01%. A more difficult step was to bring multi-hop: we design new a routing scheme inside our network, and a time based access for routers and devices to eliminate interferences as much as possible. The routing scheme is meant to be simple and efficient. We go even further to optimize the total time the nodes are on: we proposed to shut down coordinators before their standardized end of slot when there is no communication. Devices that do not need to send data can skip beacons and only need to wake up to synchronize their clock or to send data. In the same time we solve the problem of multicast for long sleeping nodes by converting these packets into unicast traffic. We also improved the duty-cycle of routers that do no have associated devices by forcing them to beacon slower, as long as they do not have any associated devices. To improve the network performance we also propose a backward compatible multichannel solution. Such a scheme is useful when a link between two nodes achieve very bad performance on a certain channel but better results on a different frequency. All the solutions presented above and discussed in the dissertation were implemented and tested on the GreenNet platform. We also realized measurements of the nodes efficiency while in harvested conditions and showed that it is possible to handle harvested routers, when there is enough available light.

Biaou, Ulrich 11 December 2017 (has links)
The need of new services in railway trains (services for metering, energy efficiency, the comfort and safety of users etc.) may eventually saturate the wired communication systems installed since twenty years ago years. The several advantages of wireless sensor networks (easy deployment, ability to adapt on different environments and low energy consumption) offer many possibilities for energy management systems. The aim of this thesis is to study and implement a wireless network sensors inside trains for energy efficiency. Thus, some communication protocols dedicated to energy management were presented and then a comparative study of the various wireless communication networks carried out. This comparative study shows that the ZigBee network is the most suitable for the platform. The proposed hybrid architecture allows the use of the existing IP network as the backbone of all ZigBee networks. In order to take into account the effect of the railway environment in the planning and deployment of the network, a study of the propagation channel was carried out, based on measurements realized in a subway and a RER car. The impact of the coexistence between ZigBee and WiFi and of the human presence on wireless communication have been demonstrated. The prototype of a platform based on the ZigBee network, allows data collection, informations traitement and monitoring, was carried out.

Inside this context, the objective of this work is to analyze and to implement two wireless communication standard protocols: Bluetooth and ZigBee. They are used to analyze theirs functionalities and applications under a domestic environment. Firstly, the Bluetooth protocol was used in order to verify its operation because this one is an already well known protocol. Secondly, the ZigBee protocol - IEEE 802.15.4 MAC was also tested due to its new protocol applied to small data communication and its low baud rate, star topozlogy and low energy consumption, which allows the control of householdelectric network. The project consisted of monitoring, controlling and configuring washing machines by using a wireless network through a remote virtual interface. The user interface of this system was done through a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant), which allowed to change the times of washing programs manual or automatic mode. The results indicated the feasibility of monitoring and controlling household-electric by implementing the IEEE 802.15.4 MAC Layer of ZigBee protocol. This implementing reached the main characteristics as described above. The maximum distance achieved in a star topology in the typical residence was 14 meters, without using routers. This distance can be increased implementing full ZigBee Protocol. Although the project was developed to washing machine, it also can be implemented to other household-electrics, such as: microwaves, heaters, air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.

Oliveira, Felipe Denis Mendon?a de 13 February 2009 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2014-12-17T14:55:35Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 FelipeDMO.pdf: 2614728 bytes, checksum: fd69e303891800912ab5260562a5545d (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-02-13 / This dissertation aims to develop a software applied to a communication system for a wireless sensor network (WSN) for tracking analog and digital variables and control valve of the gas flow in artificial oil s elevation units, Plunger Lift type. The reason for this implementation is due to the fact that, in the studied plant configuration, the sensors communicate with the PLC (Programmable and Logic Controller) by the cables and pipelines, making any changes in that system, such as changing the layout of it, as well as inconveniences that arise from the nature of the site, such as the vicinity s animals presence that tend to destroy the cables for interconnection of sensors to the PLC. For software development, was used communication polling method via SMAC protocol (Simple Medium Access ControlIEEE 802.15.4 standard) in the CodeWarrior environment to which generated a firmware, loaded into the WSN s transceivers, present in the kit MC13193-EVK, (all items described above are owners of Freescale Semiconductors Inc.). The network monitoring and parameterization used in its application, was developed in LabVIEW software from National Instruments. The results were obtained through the observation of the network s behavior of sensors proposal, focusing on aspects such as: indoor and outdoor quantity of packages received and lost, general aspects of reliability in data transmission, coexistence with other types of wireless networks and power consumption under different operating conditions.

La gestion de la qualité de service temps-réel dans les réseaux de capteurs sans fil / Real-time quality of service management in wireless sensor networks

El Gholami, Khalid 20 December 2014 (has links)
In the last years, Wireless Sensor Networks ‘WSN’ knew a tremendous evolution which attracted many applications. WSN has several characteristics that make it a unique research field, such as, WSN nodes’ constraints and the unreliable (lossy) wireless communication. The IEEE 802.15.4 standard is the first standard designed for this type of networks known as LR-WPANs ‘Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network’. The energy conservation mechanism proposed by the current standard is quite efficient and very flexible. This flexibility comes from the ability to configure different duty cycles to meet specific applications’ requirements. However, this mechanism has a considerable impact on the end-to-end delay. Our approach resolves the energy/delay trade-off by avoiding the storage of the real-time data in the coordinator during sleep time, more particularly in Multi-source Multi-sink networks. A new superframe structure is adopted and a deterministic reception scheduling is used. In this thesis, we also proposed a new WPAN model for the Network Simulator 3 ‘NS-3’.

Zitouni, Rafik 14 October 2015 (has links)
The Increasing number of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) applications has led industries to design the physical layer (PHY) of these networks following the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The traditional design of that layer is on hardware suffering from a lack of flexibility of radio parameters, such as changing both frequency bands and modulations. This problem is emphasized by the scarcity of the radio-frequency spectrum. Software Defined Radio (SDR) is an attracting solution to easily reconfigure radio parameters. In addition to SDR, a cognitive radio concept can be proposed by spectrum sensing and Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) both to overcome the spectrum scarcity problem. This thesis proposes a new SDR solution for WSNs based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. Our aim is to characterize an SDR platform that implements two standardized PHY layers and cognitive radio for WSNs. In this thesis, we carried out SDR implementations using a GNU Radio and Universal Software Peripheral Radio (USRP) platform. We chose this particular platform because it is one of the most practical and well-performed ones. A thorough study was performed to analyze GNU Radio software architecture before its usage. USRPs and their daughter boards were also analyzed through experimental radio-frequency measurements. The analysis of the GNU Radio USRP platform brought a detailed description of its architecture and performances as well as the way to implement an SDR. This description particularly assists researchers to quickly develop efficient SDR receivers and transmitters. We show through our experiments that the measured performances of daughter boards mounted on a USRP are lower than expected ones. Despite these results, some daughter boards have many interesting features such as large covered frequency bands and with a linear output power. An empirical model was introduced to accurately characterize the average output power of a particular daughter board. Then, we implemented a new possible standardized PHY layer for the 868/915 MHz frequency band. A reverse engineering process of another implementation was performed for the 2450 MHz frequency band. These two PHY layers were described by communication chains or flow graphs. We suggested a new Cognitive Radio by a reconfiguration of these flow graphs within the corresponding frequency bands. The particularity of our cognitive radio is to reconfigure flow graphs in function to the selected frequency. This selection is performed by DSA and spectrum sensing based on energy detection both through real wireless communications. We introduced a message based algorithm in order to reconfigure the flow graphs and to synchronize the selection of a carrier frequency. Our two implemented PHY layers for the 2450 MHz and the 868/915 frequency bands were found functional. The first one was tested by exchanging data packets with real sensor nodes. The second was also experienced by a packet exchange, but via GNURadio/USRP communications. Both tests were carried out through real communications. We were also able to measure two wireless communication parameters: Bit Error Rate (BER) and the Packet Success Rate (PSR). The result of functional PHY layers was beneficial for realization and experiments of our cognitive radio. We found that our DSA significantly improves the packet success rate compared to that obtained with static spectrum access in an indoor environment. The results of this thesis lead to experiment a cognitive radio with an SDR not only for a WSN, but for other wireless networks and radio standards
