Marcos César Rafael 25 November 2011 (has links)
The objective of this work is to design and develop an intelligent automated system for the alignment of a receiving antenna with parabolic reflector applied to satellite communication. Based on empirical procedures manual for the manual alignment of a parabolic antenna, we designed and developed a technological solution using hardware and software. The system uses a GPS to provide the initial spatial location of the receiving antenna and a digital receiver to provide the carrier-to-noise ratio. The main contribution of this work was the design and development of an intelligent computational system which aims at automating the receiving antenna alignment. For a given satellite, through the dynamic handling of relocate the receiving antenna, the system uses information about the quality of the received signal to drive the servo responsible for aligning the antenna. We found that, the antenna is in the desired position, the carrier-to-noise ratio should be above 8 dB for a good reception quality. We developed the project of an intelligent system to scan around the reference antenna position value, which was called the antenna position fine tuning. Our new approach consisted in a fuzzy controller type Mandani, generated according to the manual process of maneuvering the dish. Our solution has improved the carrier-to-noise ratio by repositioning the antenna in the desired position.

Leite, Daniel Furtado 21 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Fernando Antonio Campos Gomide / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-21T02:35:33Z (GMT). As abordagens e o paradigma introduzidos constituem uma extensão natural de sistemas inteligentes evolutivos para processamento de dados numéricos a sistemas granulares evolutivos para processamento de dados granulares / Abstract: In recent years there has been increasing interest in computational modeling approaches to deal with real-world data streams. Methods and algorithms have been proposed to uncover meaningful knowledge from very large (often unbounded) data sets in principle with no apparent value. This thesis introduces a framework for evolving granular modeling of uncertain data streams. Evolving granular systems comprise an array of online modeling approaches inspired by the way in which humans deal with complexity. These systems explore the information flow in dynamic environments and derive from it models that can be linguistically understood. Particularly, information granulation is a natural technique to dispense unnecessary details and emphasize transparency, interpretability and scalability of information systems. Uncertain (granular) data arise from imprecise perception or description of the value of a variable. Broadly stated, various factors can affect one's choice of data representation such that the representing object conveys the meaning of the concept it is being used to represent. Of particular concern to this work are numerical, interval, and fuzzy types of granular data; and interval, fuzzy, and neurofuzzy modeling frameworks. Learning in evolving granular systems is based on incremental algorithms that build model structure from scratch on a per-sample basis and adapt model parameters whenever necessary. This learning paradigm is meaningful once it avoids redesigning and retraining models all along if the system changes. Application examples in classification, function approximation, time-series prediction and control using real and synthetic data illustrate the usefulness of the granular approaches and framework proposed. The behavior of nonstationary data streams with gradual and abrupt regime shifts is also analyzed in the realm of evolving granular computing. We shed light upon the role of interval, fuzzy, and neurofuzzy computing in processing uncertain data and providing high-quality approximate solutions and rule summary of input-output data sets. The approaches and framework introduced constitute a natural extension of evolving intelligent systems over numeric data streams to evolving granular systems over granular data streams / Doutorado / Automação / Doutor em Engenharia Elétrica

Orientador: Elnatan Chagas Ferreira / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Elétrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-26T21:41:11Z (GMT). This work presents the implementation of a non-invasive power consumption monitoring system based on fuzzy sets, able to inform the customer, in a period close to real time, about the energy consumption of the main electrical appliances in their consumer units. This work relies on the premise that knowing in detail how do we make use of electricity in a residence is essential to achieve buildings with high degree of energy efficiency. The precise knowledge on how the electricity is being consumed is fundamental to understand how it is possible to reduce wastage and maximize savings without loss of quality of life. The proposed system is based on centralized measurement of electrical energy. To process the consumption of the appliances in use, it makes use of measurements of voltage, active power and the first five odd harmonics of the electrical current to constitute the load signatures, sensed at circuit level, just after the breakers at an electrical distribution box. The power consumption disaggregation is solved using fuzzy sets techniques. Since the system has Internet connection, in addition to informing its users about the energy consumption of their electrical loads, it is also possible to send relevant information to electric utilities, supporting the Smart Grid development / Doutorado / Eletrônica, Microeletrônica e Optoeletrônica / Doutor em Engenharia Elétrica

Physics-based Modeling Techniques for Analysis and Design of Advanced Suspension Systems with Experimental Validation

Farjoud, Alireza 31 January 2011 (has links)
This research undertakes the problem of vibration control of vehicular and structural systems using intelligent materials and controllable devices. Advanced modeling tools validated with experimental test data are developed to help with understanding the fundamentals as well as advanced and novel applications of smart and conventional suspension systems. The project can be divided into two major parts. The first part is focused on development of novel smart suspensions using Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluids in unique configurations in order to improve efficiency, controllability, and safety of today's vehicles. In this part of the research, attention is paid to fundamentals as well as advanced applications of MR technology. Extensive rheological studies, both theoretical and experimental, are performed to understand the basic behaviors of MR fluids as complex non-Newtonian fluids in novel applications. Using the knowledge obtained from fundamental studies of MR fluids, unique application concepts are investigated that lead to design, development, and experimental testing of two new classes of smart devices: MR Hybrid Dampers and MR Squeeze Mounts. Multiple generations of these devices are built and tested as proof of concept prototypes. Advanced physics-based mathematical models are developed for these devices. Experimental test data are used to validate the models and great agreement is obtained. The models are used as design tools at preliminary as well as detailed design stages of device development. The significant finding in this part of the research is that MR fluids can deliver a much larger window of controllable force in squeeze mode compared to shear and valve modes which can be used in various applications. The second part of the research is devoted to the development of innovative design tools for suspension design and tuning. Various components of suspension systems are studied and modeled using a new physics-based modeling approach. The component of main interest is the shim stack assembly in hydraulic dampers which is modeled using energy and variational methods. A major finding is that the shims should be modeled individually in order to represent the sliding effects properly when the shim stack is deflected. Next, the individual component models are integrated into a full suspension model. This model is then used as a tool for suspension design, synthesis, and tuning. Using this design tool, suspension engineers in manufacturing companies and other industrial sections can easily perform parametric studies without the need to carry out time consuming and expensive field and laboratory tests. / Ph. Diagnostic monitoring of dynamic systems using artificial immune systems

Maree, Charl 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MScEng (Process Engineering))--University of Stellenbosch, 2006. / The natural immune system is an exceptional pattern recognition system based on memory and learning that is capable of detecting both known and unknown pathogens. Artificial immune systems (AIS) employ some of the functionalities of the natural immune system in detecting change in dynamic process systems. The emerging field of artificial immune systems has enormous potential in the application of fault detection systems in process engineering. This thesis aims to firstly familiarise the reader with the various current methods in the field of fault detection and identification. Secondly, the notion of artificial immune systems is to be introduced and explained. Finally, this thesis aims to investigate the performance of AIS on data gathered from simulated case studies both with and without noise. Three different methods of generating detectors are used to monitor various different processes for anomalous events. These are: (1) Random Generation of detectors, (2) Convex Hulls, (3) The Hypercube Vertex Approach. It is found that random generation provides a reasonable rate of detection, while convex hulls fail to achieve the required objectives. The hypercube vertex method achieved the highest detection rate and lowest false alarm rate in all case studies. The hypercube vertex method originates from this project and is the recommended method for use with all real valued systems, with a small number of variables at least. It is found that, in some cases AIS are capable of perfect classification, where 100% of anomalous events are identified and no false alarms are generated. Noise has, expectedly so, some effect on the detection capability on all case studies. The computational cost of the various methods is compared, which concluded that the hypercube vertex method had a higher cost than other methods researched. This increased computational cost is however not exceeding reasonable confines therefore the hypercube vertex method nonetheless remains the chosen method. The thesis concludes with considering AIS’s performance in the comparative criteria for diagnostic methods. It is found that AIS compare well to current methods and that some of their limitations are indeed solved and their abilities surpassed in certain cases. Recommendations are made to future study in the field of AIS. Further the use of the Hypercube Vertex method is highly recommended in real valued scenarios such as Process Engineering.
