Enterprise resource planning (ERP) diffusion and characteristics according to the system's lifecycle. A comparative view of small-to-medium sized and large enterprises.Bernroider, Edward, Leseure, Michel J. January 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This report represents the next step of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)related research at the Department of Information Business at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Adminstration following previous work on the selection process. Based on 209 datasets originating from a primary, national and industry independent survey, it provides a descriptive oriented overview of main characteristics of ERP in all stages of the system's lifecycle, emphasising differences between small-to-medium sized and large enterprises (SMEs and LEs). The given research topics in particular comprise software diffusion, resources allocated, strategic project guidance, investment drivers, considered and chosen solutions, team structures, selection criteria, information gathering, methodical support, implementation approaches, acompanying business strategies, implementation problems, perceived utilisation of ERP benefits, firm level ERP impact, and the role of ERP systems as technology enabler. Future work based on the gathered data will document analytical projects undertaken in particular focusing on ERP success, enterprise integration, organisational fit of ERP, and BPR/BPI related questions. / Series: Working Papers on Information Systems, Information Business and Operations

Green IT/IS investments evaluation within the aviation industry: A focus on indirect cost managementJongsaguan, S., Ghoneim, Ahmad 06 August 2016 (has links)
No / The purpose of this paper is to utilize the existing theories and knowledge surrounding information systems (IS) evaluation and Green information technology (IT)/IS investments to develop a conceptual model for helping decision makers to overcome and reduce the impacts from Green IT/IS investment related to cost overruns or under-optimized budgets.
The paper is discursive, based on the analysis and synthesis of literature pertaining to IS evaluation, Green IT/IS adoption and Sustainable/Green/CSR within an aviation context. Gaps in the preceding research have been identified, and a conceptual model is proposed. Additionally, further research and a methodology are suggested.
The paper proposes a conceptual model that can identify factors including external factors derived from institutional theory, internal organizational factors, and a list of indirect costs associated with Green IT/IS investments for an aviation organization.
As a conceptual paper, the study is limited to literature, identifying gaps, and proposing a model. The paper recommends further empirical validation of the proposed conceptual model.
The conceptual model is helpful for decision makers within the aviation industry to enhance their understanding of the identification and management of indirect costs within the aviation context, which results in effective management of Green IT/IS indirect costs.
The paper fills gaps in the knowledge of IS evaluation, Green IT/IS adoption/evaluation within aviation context through helping decision makers to understand, identify, and manage the associated indirect costs.

Utvärdera Informationssystem : Pragmatiskt perspektiv och metod / Evaluating Information Systems : Pragmatic perspective and methodLagsten, Jenny January 2009 (has links)
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to develop an evaluation method forevaluating information systems based on the stakeholder model for evaluation. The method is called VISU (Swedish acronym for IS evaluation for workpracticedevelopment). In VISU, the evaluation process is recognised as a social processwhere people are working together in order to determine the qualities and valuesof the IS under evaluation. The point of departure is that evaluation is to be usedby people in order to make change and betterment. Questions: Two questionshave guided the study: 1) How should a method for evaluation of informationsystems be designed in order to contribute to the development of an organisation? and 2) What is the significance of a pragmatic grounded evaluation model? and 2) What is the significance of a pragmatic grounded evaluation model? Method: The research process has been conducted according to Canonical ActionResearch. The Action Research strategy has been chosen in order to satisfy theresearch needs when doing method development – the need to try the method outin non trivial situations. Further, VISU is grounded in pragmatic knowledgetheories, evaluation theories (stakeholder model) and IS evaluation theories andanchored in the school of interpretive IS evaluation. Contribution: The practicalcontribution from the study is VISU, a method for evaluation informationsystems. The theoretical contributions are rationality for pragmatic IS evaluation,a multiparadigm model for IS evaluation and a model for evaluation use.

Exploring the application of web 2.0 technologies in the context of e-governmentUthayasankar, Sivarajah January 2014 (has links)
Electronic government (e-Government) in terms of public service delivery and administration has endured signification transformation over the last decade. More recently, modern second generation web technologies (Web 2.0) have started to be used to deliver e-Government. However, this in turn has brought about additional challenges. By its nature, Web 2.0 is more interactive than the traditional model of information provision or creation of digital services and as such opens up a new set of benefits, costs and risks to those who make use of it as part of their e-Government approach. In the main, the usage of Web 2.0 is in its infancy within e-Government and this creates a need for research into exploring the application of Web 2.0 technologies in e-Government and to provide practical advice to practitioners. This research draws on the existing literature to present a novel conceptual model that could be used to guide implementation and evaluation of Web 2.0. The conceptual model draws the existing literature into the traditional information systems (IS) evaluation model (benefits, costs and risks) specifically in terms appropriate to Web 2.0. In turn that evaluation is set in the context of the impact on the organisation in terms of organisational, technological and social consequences. This conceptual model was tested in a United Kingdom local government authority (LGA) that had recently started to make use of Web 2.0 in terms of service delivery and for internal work purposes by its employees. The result was a qualitative enquiry making use of interviews and documentary evidence to explore the validity of the conceptual model as a tool to assist decision making in this field. The findings elicited from the in-depth case study offer an insight into IS evaluation criteria and impact factors of Web 2.0 from both a practical setting and an internal organisational perspective. An interesting finding of this study was the contrast between the agreement on the need for evaluation of Web 2.0 tools and how to carry that out, and the fact that this had not been formally carried out by the case study with respect to its early Web 2.0 projects. This study concludes that a combined analysis of the evaluation and impact factors rather than a singular approach would better assist the decision making process that leads to effective application of Web 2.0 technologies. Keywords: e-Government, Web 2.0, Information Systems Evaluation, Impact, Local Government Authorities (LGAs).
