Theaim of the research was to understand the meanings of their religiosity to favor the clinic work with this population. Inside a phenomenological perspective, I traced a line of investigation that allowed me to pass through fields such as aging, culture, religiosity and subjectivity. Eight people trem seventyto eighty years old were studied by interviews semi-structured in which they related their viewpoint about the world, their relation to the holy, their beliefs, and religiosity practice and experience. The phenomenological analysis afthe reports revealed the religious senses built by the aged, which permit them ta live the polarities of life in a conciliatory and integrated way. To them the meaningof life is in the sacred; therefore they approach and open themselves to receivehim. In front of the holy they feel strong, loved, protected and sons of God and in the relations with the community they are serene, peaceful and commemorative. Such meanings provide them the internal organization necessary to situate them in the world. Their religiosity is lived paradoxically, becauseis in the relation with the sacred that they feel strong in the weakness, marryeven in the pain, wise in the ignorance and rich in the poverty. They seek to settle basis and organize their lives in the feelings and affections formed, in the conviviality with the holy. In the religiosity of this aged, there is an attitucle, of openness to the mystery, the invisible and the transcendent important to be consideredin the psychotherapist's view in his labor with this population. The existence of openness to the religious speech ot the people is especially important, because it reveals the various cultural models of the psyche, supply clues to decode the human enigmas and lead to the comprehension of its deepest dimension, or, its most intimate and existential nucleus / Este trabalho nasceu de indagações sobre a religiosidade de idosos usuários das clínicas-escola da Universidade Federal de Uberlândia, em Minas Gerais, onde desenvolvo projetos de extensão universitária na área da psicogerontologia. O objetivo do estudo foi compreender os sentidos da religiosidade, com vistas a favorecer o trabalho clínico com essa população. Em uma perspectiva fenomenológica, fui construindo uma trajetória de estudo que me permitiu trilhar por caminhos que passaram pelos âmbitos do envelhecimento, cultura, religiosidade e subjetividade. Fizeram parte do estudo, oito pessoas com idade entre setenta e oitenta anos, as quais, através de entrevistas semi-estruturadas, puderam relatar sua visão de mundo, sua relação com o sagrado, suas crenças, práticas e vivências religiosas. A análise dos relatos foi revelando, aos poucos, os sentidos religiosos constituídos pelos idosos que Ihes permitem vivenciar as polaridades da vida de modo conciliador e integrado. Para eles, o sentido da vida está no sagrado, por isso dele se aproximam e se abrem para recebê-lo. Diante do sagrado se sentem fortes, amados, protegidos e filhos de Deus e nas relações com a comunidade são mansos, pacíficos e festivos. Tais sentidos propiciam a organização interna necessária para que se posicionarem no mundo. Sua religiosidade é vivida paradoxalmente, pois é na relação com o sagrado que sentem fortes na fraqueza, alegres apesar da dor, sábios na ignorância e ricos na pobreza. Buscam fundamentar e organizar a vida com os sentimentos e afetos gerados, no convívio com o sagrado. Há na religiosidade desses idosos uma atitude de abertura ao mistério, ao invisível e transcendente que é importante para ser considerada na visada do psicoterapeuta, na sua lida com essa população. A pesquisa realizada aponta para a importância da abertura para o discurso religioso das pessoas, na clínica, uma vez que ele revela os diversos estilos culturais e pessoais da psique, oferecendo pistas para decifrar os enigmas humanos e para compreender a sua dimensão mais profunda, ou seja, o seu núcleo mais íntimo e existencial
