Ilha de Guaratiba, porção periférica da zona oeste do Rio de Janeiro, caracterizada como um dos últimos remanescentes rurais da cidade, passa atualmente por um processo de mudança de função, uma vez que sua pretérita estrutura rural-agrícola, devido a uma crescente especulação imobiliária após as décadas de 1970 e 1980, vem sendo substituída pela hodierna estrutura urbano-residencial (FERNANDES, 2006). O evento em questão tem estimulado uma considerável mobilidade em direção ao local, principalmente a partir da década de 1990. Além desse relevante evento para nossa análise espacial, por meio de pesquisas qualitativas, pretendemos focalizar outro fenômeno, de porte existencial, pois está vinculado a uma metamorfose sentimental do guaratibano que, no bojo desse processo, tem sido influenciado em sua maneira de viver e/ou ver o seu mundo vivido. Uma vez que, o indivíduo não é distinto de seu lugar (RELPH, 1976) e cada pessoa possui uma geografia particular e pessoal (LOWENTHAL, 1982; COSGROVE, 2004), faz-se necessário uma abordagem fenomenológica que privilegie o indivíduo em seu lugar. Assim sendo, a dissertação tem por objetivo abordar o fenômeno gerado pelo referido processo de urbanização em Ilha de Guaratiba em suas diversas nuances, partindo do enfoque dos principais agentes desse processo: os guaratibanos. Com esse fim, pretendemos traduzir suas geografias pessoais, forjadas por meio de suas experiências vividas, vivência esta responsável pela construção de símbolos pretéritos e hodiernos e de uma forte identificação com seu lugar. / Ilha de Guaratiba, on the outskirts of the west area of Rio de Janeiro, is characterized as one of the last country zones of the city, and is passing trough a change of function nowadays, since it once was an agricultural place and due to the increasing housing speculation at the 1970 and 1980 decades, is being currently replaced for an urban-residential structure(FERNANDES, 2006). The mentioned event is fomenting a big mobility towards the place, most of all from the 1990 decade to the present time. Besides this important fact for our spatial analysis, wherewith qualitative research, we intend to focus another phenomena, with existential matter, because it is related to the guaratibas natives sentimental transformation. With this process, they had their pace of life touched. Once the human bean has no distinction of the place he lives(RELPH, 1976), and each person has a particular and personal geography (LOWENTHAL, 1982; COSGROVE, 2004), it is necessary to show the phenomena in such a way to put a focus in the inhabitant in its place. Actually, the dissertation has as an objective to discuss the phenomena created by the urbanizing process at Ilha de Guaratiba trough all of its aspects, beginning with the focus at the most important actors of this process: The guaratibas people. With this objective, we intend to interpret their personal geographies, formed of their live experiences, experiences that are responsible for the construction of the past and the present symbols of a strong identification with their place.
