2	Narratives of incest Papaikonomou, Natascia 06 1900 (has links) Incest is described by various models focusing on different factors ranging from pathology to descriptions of the ecosystem in which it takes place. This research presents a theoretical and practical description of father-daughter incest in a family where the father was not removed and includes narratives of all associated systems. Consistent with the postmodern, social constructionist and narrative theories, this study attempts to observe and describe the ensuing process of the incest narrative through the various systems within which it takes place. This process explores people's perceptions of incest, how these are assessed and interpreted, what kind of action they mapped out as a result and the possibility that the abusive narrative is being maintained. Implications for therapy with the incest family are discussed drawing on narrative principles. 4	Rape, rage and culture : African men and cultural conditions for justification of, and sanctions against rape Buntu, Amani Olubanji 04 1900 (has links) This study is a cultural investigation into rape, with specific focus on the role of African men. With more than 70 000 cases of rape and sexual violence reported in a year in South Africa, and estimations that this may reflect one ninth of the actual number only, South Africa has been labelled the “rape capital” of the world. The study seeks to explain the root causes of rape, its ontological make-up and possibilities for resolving the issue by identifying cultural aspects, factors and manifestations that either justify or sanction rape. Four concepts, namely, rape, masculinity, culture and rage, serve as the thematic lens for identifying and interrogating cultural conditions through multidisciplinary and Africancentred perspectives. The analyses contained in the study are based on a mapping process involving comparing the data from a wide range of literature and also focus group interviews. 5	Attitudes of incest abuse perpetrators in the Northern Province towards incest abuse and their victims Selahle, Phildah Lebogang January 2001 (has links) Thesis (M. A. (Clinical Psychology)) --University of the North, 2001 / This study is an investigation into the sexual attitudes of incest abuse perpetrators in the Northern Province and attitudes towards their victims (South Africa). Forty-two convicted male incest abuse perpetrators and forty-two professional males nonperpetrators (as control group) participated in the study. The Hanson Sex Attitude Questionnaire was administered to both incest abuse perpetrators and professional males ' nonperpetrator (as control group) to compar':' their attitudes. The questionnaire includes: Sexual Entitle ment scale, Sexy-Children scale, Frustration scale, Affair scale, Sex/ Affection-Confusion scale. and Sexual-Harm scale. A quantitative research approach was followed in the study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the responses. Compared to the control group, the incest abuse perpetrators showed deviant negative attitudes in all the scales : (a) endorsing attitudes supportive to sexua l en title ment, (b) perceiving children to be sexually attractive, (c) being sexually frustrated in their life, (d) confusing sex with affection, (e) minimizing the harm caused by sexual abuse of childre n, and (t) accepting extra-marital affairs. Thus the attitudes of incest abuse perpetrators are significantly unfavorable to the victims. The researcher recommends psychological intervention for the perpetrators to help them adjust to their societal expectations. More job opportunities should be created in the province. 7	Emotional experiences of incestuous fathers : a social constructionist investigation Van Niekerk, Wilhelmina Johanna 30 September 2005 (has links) This study aimed to relate the emotions of two fathers regarding their incestuous behaviour. The epistemological framework is social constructionism. The `case-study approach' was chosen as the most suitable method to gain access to the information. Qualitative in-depth interviews with the fathers were conducted to collect data about their emotional experiences regarding their incestuous behaviour and Hermeneutics was used as method of data analysis. The emotional experiences of the participants regarding their incestuous behaviour were reconstructed in the form of prominent themes. Themes that seemed to re-occur in both participants' stories were identified and discussed as common themes. These themes included; ambivalence, powerlessness and guilt. This study provides a rich understanding of the emotional experiences of incestuous fathers.
