Desempenho de frangos de corte influenciado pela idade da matriz, tempo de incubação e manejo pós-eclosão / Broiler performance influenced by broiler breeder age, incubation period and post-hatching handling

Almeida, Jair Godoy de January 2006 (has links)
Four experiences were made with the purpose of evaluating birth distribution related to the broiler breeder age and the consequences of the chick permanence in the hatchery for a long period on their future performance. Attempting to establish new handling to improve chick quality we observed that the broiler breeder age interfered in hatching distribution and the embryo from old broiler breeders present a later distribution in relation to the embryo from young broiler breeders and intermediate broiler breeders. We observed that most hatching occurred till 485 hours of incubation, that is, 30 hours before the final removing term. From this postulation, it would be interesting that the chick would be removed, at least once, before 510 hours of incubation, which is the used normal period. In this way, the period in which the chick will be without food and water will be reduced to the majority of the hatching chicks. Nevertheless, the results of this study do not show advantages in the adoption of this handling, since the chicks taken away early from the birthplace do not present performance advantages related to the chicks submitted to stress periods of 12 an 24 hours in the hatchery for posterior housing. Old broiler breeder present a great number of infertile eggs and total embryonic mortality resulting in a minor percentage of hatching. The anticipation or the retarding of the exchange of the initial diet in view of the growth due to the chick weight in housing was not advantageous in relation to the animal performance. Nevertheless, we evidence that the weight in housing was determinant for the animal performance resulting in a medium difference of weight of 174g at the day 42th, favorable to the chicks housed with a greater corporal weight.

Epidemiologicky závažná onemocnění a možnosti zábrany jejich zneužití a následného rozšíření v populaci / MAJOR EPIDEMIOLOGICAL DISEASES AND POSSIBILITIES OF RESTRICTION ITS MALFEASANCE AND CONSEQUENTIAL SPREAD IN POPULATION

VAŇOVÁ, Naďa January 2011 (has links)
In history there are cases of epidemics, which often reduced the human population more than war conflicts ever did. A typical example is the Spanish flu epidemic during the 1st World War. It is generally known that a large portion of our population lacks sufficient knowledge on the very dangerous diseases, which can be misused by bioterrorists. People underestimate the threat and often they don?t even have any idea how to protect themselves against biological agents or what to do in the event of a possible attack. I have chosen this issue as the topic of my diploma work as I consider the current situation of the inhabitant?s awareness of this issue as unsatisfactory. The objective of my work is to define epidemiologically serious diseases, which are suitable for misuse within the bioterrorists? actions, to focus on their diagnostics, treatment and prevention. On the basis of studying expert literature and consultations I have proposed preventative measures and instructions what to do in the event of a possible risk of attack by biological warfare agents and subsequently I created two types of information leaflets for the wide public. At the same time I handed over these two information leaflets for an expert assessment to a legal office to make sure that they do not fulfil the state of facts of a criminal offence of spreading a haux. The result is an opinion that the leaflet with general information may be used to increase peoples' awareness on the preventative protection against the possible risk of attack or misuse of biological agents. The second leaflet with the detailed information may only be used for the purpose of this diploma work, or possibly for training purposes of cooperation of the Integrated Emergency Services and the inhabitants in the given area.

Waiting to die: staging of HIV positive people at the first HIV test - Region A, Nelson Mandela Metropole (January 1991-April 2000)

Cupido, Ynoma January 2006 (has links)
Masters of Art / This project suggested that HIV people in Region A (Nelson Mandela Metropole, formerly Port Elizabeth) health district of the Eastern Cape, seek HIV testing when they are already in stages three (late disease) and four (AIDS) of HIV infection. Data had been obtained from the AIDS Training Information and Counselling Centre in the Nelson Mandela Metropole in 2000. The consequences of diagnoses only in the advanced stages of HIV infection will have a devastating impact on case management. Therefore, this paper yielded important data for South African policy makers to write health and welfare policies that might improve the quality of life of those terminally infected with HIV. / South Africa

Applying spent coffee ground as an organic soil ameliorant in the Limpopo Province, South Africa

Motlanthi, Mahlatse January 2022 (has links)
Thesis (M.Sc. Agriculture. (Soil Science)) -- University of Limpopo, 2022 / The constant growth experienced by the coffee industry has led to the high-volume production of coffee waste worldwide. One of the main coffee wastes is spent coffee ground (SCG), a residue obtained after the ground coffee beans are treated under pressure. The present study was aimed to investigate the utilization of SCG to amend soil physicochemical properties. This study was conducted at Greenhouse Biotechnologies Research Centre of Excellence, University of Limpopo, South Africa, where the effect of various rates of SCG concentration in volume percentage (vol%) was tested for a period of nine months. The spent coffee ground residue was collected from four restaurants at Haenertsburg, and the application rates were 0, 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 vol%. To evaluate the change in soil physicochemical properties overtime, the incubation period was divided into four test periods namely T1 was after a month, T3 after 3 months, T6 after 6 months, and T9 after 9 months. Physicochemical properties including nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), total organic carbon (TOC), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), zinc (Zn), and lead (Pb), pH, electrical conductivity (EC), C:N ratio, large macroaggregates (LM), small macroaggregates (sM), microaggregates (m), unaggregated silt and clay (s+c), mean weight diameter (MWD) and soil moisture content (SMC) were quantified at the end of each test period. Results revealed that the interaction between incubation periods and various SCG application rates significantly (p<0.05) increased pHw, EC, MWD, LM, base cations and significantly decreased TOC, heavy metals, SMC, m, and sM. Spent coffee ground increased pHw and EC of the soil at all application rates and reached a maximum of 7.8 units at T6 in treatment SCG-5 and 202.30 S/cm at T9 in treatment SCG-50 above the control respectively. Total organic carbon increased by 548% above control in the highest treatment (SCG-50) at T1, but, however, started declining from T3 in all treatments across the incubation period. SCG’s highest application rates (SCG-20 to SCG-50) reduced the soil Cd toxicity (threshold of >2 mg/kg), but however, also reduced the availability of micronutrients (Cu and Zn) during the incubation period. At T9, Mg, Ca, K, and P increased from mean values of 55.9 to 77.9, 40.9 to 62.2, 77.4 to 112, and 22.0 to 30.0 mg/Kg above control in treatments with high application rates. LM increased whilst sM, and m decreased across the incubation period in all treatments. MWD increased by 46% at T1 and reached its maximum of 56% at T6 in treatment SCG-50 above control. Additionally, there was a positive relationship between LM and MWD. Soil moisture content however increased to 60.26% at T1 in treatment SCG-50 and decreased from T3 across the incubation period. Spent coffee ground has the potential to be used as a liming material, a chelating agent, and for water management in semi-arid areas. It retains and cycles nutrients and improves soil structure through aggregation. However, research should be done in field conditions to access the effectiveness of this residue. / NRF
