iNET System Operational Flows

Grace, Thomas B., Abbott, Ben A., Moodie, Myron L. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The integrated Network-Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project is transitioning from standards development to deployment of systems. In fielding a Telemetry Network System (TmNS) demonstration system, one must choose and integrate technological building blocks from the suite of standards to implement new test capabilities. This paper describes the operation of a TmNS and identifies the management, configuration, control, acquisition, and distribution of information and operational flows. These items are discussed utilizing a notional system to walk through the mechanisms identified by the iNET standards. Note that at the time of this paper the efforts discussed are only at the very beginning of the design process and will likely evolve throughout the design process.

Guidelines for elaborating an information flow model as a support to the logistics in building construction firms.

Villagarcia Zegarra, Sofia Lilianne 19 December 2000 (has links)
This research aims to identify guidelines for developing an information flow management model to support materials management in building construction firms. The main purpose of building materials management is to have the required materials at the right place, at the right time, in the right quantity without prejudicing cost and quality. These guidelines were identified considering a functional integration within the construction firm. Based on three case studies developed in construction firms and a literature review, the materials management information flows inside the construction firm were studied. In this way, the principal factors that affect or enhance these information flows were analyzed. Once analyzed these factors, we were able to determine the best arrange for these flows and identify the guidelines and propose an information flow model based exclusively in the three cases studied. Besides this, we discussed the parameters that should be taken into account to guarantee a continuous improvement in the model proposed. Finally, we briefly discuss how partnering with suppliers, the use of normalized products, the Internet and the use of code bars could innovate traditional information flows and integrate the supply chain.

Dependency-based collaborative design: a comparison of modeling methods

Drabble, Brian 19 March 2015 (has links)
No / The ability to provide support to a group of designers, analysts and other users who are collaborating on an evolving design requires the dual capabilities of managing options for an individual designer while at the same time managing the dependencies between different sets of designer's options. For example, if designer A is creating a design for a helicopters hydraulics system and this is dependent on electrical power (EP) from a sub-system from designer B then how can the workflows, decisions and options of the two designers be managed so that each can understand the implications of their own design decisions and more importantly the implications and design decisions they force on others? The proposed CAPS system employs two dependency reasoning engines: one handles quantitative values and other qualitative ones. The quantitative engine can identify that a motor with an output of 3000 rpm allows a generator to output 100 V or that a hydraulic pump is dependent on the 240v output of the motor. Alternatively, the qualitative engine could rule out several motors options if the overall design state that the weight of a helicopter's transmission needs to be comparable to that of the engine or the positioning of a sensor makes it susceptible to an EM process that could affect its function. A mapping capability is provided allowing analysis to be passed between the two engines. Three different types of dependency-based quantitative engine designs have been developed and evaluated. The first quantitative engine design focuses on modeling components at their output level and propagating level values from component to component, component to sub-system, etc. The second quantitative engine design focuses on modeling components at the node level so as to identify key components, sub-systems, etc. in terms of their overall dependency to the design. The third engine employs a hybrid of the previous two approaches and was identified through feedback from designers. These engines are designed to be complimentary with the node-based and hybrid approaches being used to identify the key capabilities and dependencies of the design. The output-based approach is then used to explore in greater detail the outputs and dependencies of the components and sub-systems identified as key via the node/hybrid-based approach. The proposed CAPS architecture has been initially evaluated against a large collaborative design task involving the design of a helicopter's electrical, hydraulic, structural and mechanical systems.

Beyond IT and Productivity : Effects of Digitized Information Flows in Grocery Distribution

Horzella, Åsa January 2005 (has links)
<p>During the last decades organizations have made large investments in Information Technology (IT). The effects of these investments have been studied in business and academic communities over the years. A large amount of research has been conducted on the relation between the investments in IT and productivity growth. Productivity is a central measure of national and organizational success and is often considered in economic decisionmaking. Researchers have however found it difficult to present a clear-cut answer to the effect of IT investments on productivity growth; an inability defined as the productivity paradox.</p><p>Within the Impact of IT on Productivity (ITOP) research program the relevance of the productivity measure as an indicator of the value of IT is questionned. IT has over the years replaced physical interfaces with digital and in this way enabled new ways to process information. A retrospective research approach is therefore applied where the effects of digitized information flows are studied within specific organizational settings.</p><p>In this thesis the effects of digitized information flows within Swedish grocery distribution are studied. A comprehensive presentation of the development is first conducted and three focal areas are thereafter presented. These describe supply chain information flows including order information, information on new items and analysis of point-of-sales information. The presentation of the focal areas identifies a number of effects from the digitization of information flows. The effects are analyzed according to a predefined analytical framework. The effects are divided into five categories and are thereafter evaluated when it comes to potential for generating value.</p><p>The study shows that the digitization of information flows has generated numerous, multifaceted effects. Automational, informational, transformational, consumer surplus and other effects are observed. They are difficult to evaluate using a single ndicator. Specific indicators that are closely related to the effects can however be defined. The study also concludes that the productivity measure does not capture all positive effects generated by digitized information flows.</p> / ISRN/Report code: LiU-Tek-Lic-2005:39

Franco, Ramon Adrian Salinas 26 February 2015 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-06-02T19:16:42Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 6772.pdf: 3983195 bytes, checksum: dd5ca85de8981645939e02e56ee6dd5c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2015-02-26 / Many studies have been conducted recently in order to understand cervical cancer and the best way to prevent it. The most successful mechanism for the prevention of cervical cancer is the Pap test. This popular exam is performed continuously throughout Brazil, and although the Pap test is quick and painless, the results can take as long as up to six months. This ultimately causes many women to give up on the exam. In recent years, science and technology has allowed for the creation of new ways to conduct noninvasive diagnosis. The general objective of this research is to propose a method to reduce the response time in delivering the result of a Pap test through the analysis of information flows and the incorporation of information and communication technologies. The methodology used in this research was exploratory. The literature search was performed through the use of scientific databases, covering books, articles, publications, dissertations, theses, among other sources of information relevant. Data collection was carried out by reading multiple sources and examples of existing models. As a starting point, information from the literature was used to understand the operation of the collection Pap tests and following information about the exam in São Carlos / SP, including the advice of experts. As a comparative object for research, a technological tool that was used in Colombia, optimizes the information flows of the Pap test. The results were obtained in relation to the identification of information flows proposed model of more efficient than traditional models surveyed by data collection and evaluation test. The information flows were analyzed composing the Information System for the realization of the Pap smear, including Galenic Tele Salud software modified to Brazilian conditions and was obtained using the model proposed a time of 76.85 minutes with 20 simulations, demonstrating that the proposed model is more efficient than the traditional models studied. It is believed that this research offers a contribution to enable new studies and new methods to facilitate and improve the activities required for the realization of the Pap smear.
