Le patrimoine des Avignonnais : la construction du caractère patrimonial de la ville par ses habitants / The heritage of the Inhabitants of Avignon : the construction of the patrimonial character of the city by its inhabitants

Watremez, Anne 01 December 2009 (has links)
The thesis wishes to understand how the inhabitants of a city build a relationship with the heritage within their city. How do they regard the elements of the city as being patrimonial? An inhabitant is a practitioner of the city and the practice which he/she has is the essential component in the comprehension of his/her relationship with the heritage. Two methodological devices of narration were used: itinerant interviews and focus groups, which produced the discourses in this research. The first device has, as its objective, to make the interviewees speak and walk about in the space of the city in order to find him/herself in the daily situation of a typical inhabitant, and to allow interviewees to show and describe the places where they have built build a relationship with the heritage. The second device has intends to meet with interviewees again in order to specify the characteristics which constitute the link that they have with their heritage. For the whole of the analysis developed, we explore the process of construction of meaning in the relationship built by the inhabitants with what they regard as their heritage. Interviewees are asked to speak about the discourses that they themselves developed during there itinerant interviews. This is why we speak about “sémiodiscursive” analysis of the corpora, we seek to understand the process of the meaning in the relationship with the heritage from a semiotic point of view by studying the discourses which build it. Throughout the thesis, the analysis has two levels: an analysis of content allowing to recognize on the one hand the places where the relationship is built, and, on the other hand the qualificative attributions at work. Then, a semiotic analysis studies the way in which the meaning of these relations to the heritage is built. We propose that, in order to understand the meaning of the relationship with heritage, we need to work with the various operations of construction of meaning witch are mixed up in the corpora, and witch we study separately in the analysis

Painter, Painter

Chae, Elle January 2016 (has links)
In Painter, Painter, Elle Chae explores the home as an unstable, unpredictable environment that is highly sensitive to the traces emanating from the domestic space, including its inhabitants. This body of work examines how the occupant’s interactions can blur the notion of home as a shelter. Using the creative deconstruction as a mode of generating new meanings, Chae’s conceptual juxtaposition and wide range of techniques and surface create reverie scenes that are open to and encourage freedom of interpretations.

The impact of British Christian missionaries on Indian religious, social and cultural life between 1800 and 1857. With particular reference to the role of missionaries in the events leading up to the 1857 Mutiny

Bi, Nagina January 2011 (has links)
This study examines the impact of British Christian missionaries in the north of India between 1800 and 1857. The study focuses on the cross cultural encounter between the Christian Missionaries and the Muslim inhabitants of three Indian cities: Agra, Delhi and Peshawar. Alongside this, the role of the missionaries in creating anti ¿ British sentiment in Agra and Delhi, is examined. Crucially, an assessment is made as to what extent Christian missionary involvement in these three cities influenced people to revolt against the British in 1857. / University of Bradford

Epistemological, Ontological, and Ethical Dimensions of Biocultural Rights: The Case of the Atrato River, Colombia

González Morales, Valentina 08 1900 (has links)
In 2016, the Colombian Constitutional Court recognized the Atrato River as a subject of rights based on the theory of biocultural rights. This dissertation analyzes a new legal concept that aims to defend the rights to a good life for humans and other-than-human co-inhabitants who share river ecosystems, focusing on the case of the Atrato River in Colombia. The 3Hs framework of biocultural ethics is adopted to interconnect complex and interrelated historical, biophysical, cultural, and political dimensions. With this analysis, broader biocultural approaches are suggested. They could be valuable for understanding and implementing biocultural rights in other world regions. Moreover, it could transform the current situation that destroys biocultural diversity toward public policies that favor more just and sustainable forms of co-inhabiting biocultural diversity. A primary limitation of the implementation of biocultural rights is the context of a "failed state," in which the Colombian State is subject to severe problems of corruption, illegal mining, conflicts between legal and illegal armed groups, and drug trafficking. There is a need for a dialogue solution to the conflict. This requires that illegal armed groups are valued as co-inhabitants. Achieving social-environmental justice is essential for biocultural ethics. In this case, it is the condition of possibility for the ruling of biocultural rights of the Atrato River to be entirely carried out.

Inhabitants Within Threshold (Threshold as Antidote for Urban Density)

Saito, Ryohei 08 February 2009 (has links)
The objective of my thesis is to explore and re-define the relationship between threshold and urban density. Threshold is an architectural medium, which divides and bridges spaces with certain meanings. Density is the defining character of the urban condition expressed consistently at different scales: from a city to a block, to a building and to the human habitation. My design project is about an application of threshold in architectural design within the context of urban density. The efficacy of threshold is tested in both external and internal conditions: the existing condition of the site and the internal workings of the program. To test the thesis, a design of a youth hostel in Washington D.C. was undertaken. The experiment was carried out with the following hypotheses: 1) that threshold is an architectural instrument that mitigates the urban density and 2) that threshold negotiates the territories among the inhabitants. The design experiment demonstrated the hypotheses and therefore, confirmed the relationship between threshold and urban density. / Master of Architecture

Ochrana obyvatelstva v případě úniku nebezpečných chemických látek / Inhabitants Protection in Case of Release of Dangerous Chemical Substances

BRODSKÁ, Veronika January 2008 (has links)
In the consciousness of the inhabitans of the Czech Republic, first of all extraordinary natural events of catastrophic character as floods, fires and an important phenomenon today, windstorms, remain. However, in the last decades, as a result of the development of economy, we are surrounded more and more by chemical substances, becoming a part of our lives which can cause the occurrence of extraordinary situations, for example during the storage, transport or their usage. They can influence us first of all by the occurrence of possible accidents. For this reason, the goal of this thesis is to elaborate a comprehensive survey and a more detailed characteristic of the most frequently applied or through chemical terrorism misused dangerous chemical substances. The system of the protection of inhabitants in the Czech Republic, the tasks of citizens as well as bodies of the public administration, the way of protection financing, co-operation on the international level as well as of individual components of protection of inhabitants as e.g. warning and announcing, evacuation system, emergency survival, shelters, decontamination, individual as well as unpremediated protection are described here. The knowledge of the public in that issue as well as differences in knowledge between intentionally selected age categories were established by means of a questionnaire.

Potenciál destinačního managementu ve vybraných zemích Subsaharské Afriky pro zlepšení postavení místního obyvatelstva: implikace pro Etiopii / Destination management's potential for improvement of the situation of local inhabitants in chosen Sub-Saharan Africa countries: implications for Ethiopia

Tůma, Jakub January 2010 (has links)
Destination management became the key to a successful development of tourism sector in the last decades. Its role is not only in enhancing the competitiveness of the country's tourism sector on the international market but also in maximazing the net benefits from tourism for the host country. These tasks are exceptionaly important in developing countries. These countries often have unique potential in the presence of tourism atractivities but lack the so needed resources for exploiting this potential. Low level of socio/economic and technological development further limits the market opportunities of developing countries. A natural part of the tourism sector is the local population. However, local inhabitants are often reduced to a tourist atraction and thus do not gain profits from tourism in their region. On the other hand, local people bear substantial costs induced by tourism activities. To avoid this situation, the destination management should seek for more equal participation of local inhabitants in the tourism sector. This thesis will conduct an analysis of destination management in three relatively successful countries of the Sub-Saharan Africa region: Kenya, Ghana and the Republic of South Africa. The tested hypothesis is that destination management has the power to actively affect the situation of local inhabitants with regard to tourism activities in their region. The analysis is conducted in two ways. First, the programming documents of responsible tourism authorities will be compared to the actual activities of this authorities. Second, the conducted activities will be contrasted with the curent situation and problems of the particular countries. The results will then be applied on Ethiopia which is one of the least developed countries in the world but has one of the biggest tourism potentials in the Sub-Saharan Africa region.

L'habitat participatif : de l'émergence d'une initiative habitante à son intégration dans l'action publique / Cohousing : from the emergence of an inhabitants' initiative to its integration into public action

Devaux, Camille 25 November 2013 (has links)
From the early 2000 onwards, cohousing inhabitant-led initiatives have emerged under the French label “Habitat participatif”. They consist in collectively designing and managing blocks of flats in which one can dispose of a private space while sharing the rest. Although they started as inhabitant projects only, institutions like local authorities and social housing landlords have gradually been involved in their development. This PhD research explores the way this inhabitant project became a matter of interest in public action and was given importance in the next Housing law which is discussed since September 2013. After a first part dedicated to research framing, cohousing genesis in France is described through the references it invokes and its initial representatives : inhabitants. Then cohousing agenda-setting is analyzed, looking at the first appeals to public intervention, the shape of this intervention and local authorities and public housing sector's interest in cohousing projects. Cohousing agenda-setting proves to be a whirlwind process. Accurate elements about institutions actual commitment and its consequences are exposed in the fourth part, opening discussion on relationships between inhabitants and institutions

Havarijní připravenost Nestlé Česko s.r.o., závodu ZORA / Emergency preparedness of Nestlé Česko, s.r.o, Zora

PUPÍKOVÁ, Pavlína January 2016 (has links)
The thesis deals with the issue of emergency preparedness of Nestlé Česko, s.r.o, Zora Olomouc. According to the Act. No. 224/2015 Coll., concerning prevention of major accidents caused by selected dangerous chemical substances or chemical preparations and concerning amendment there is underlimit amount of hazardous chemical ammonia in the area and we cannot classify this as group A or B. On these not-classified resources there are not subject to some duties under this Act, especially the obligation to prepare an emergency documentation. There are a lot of factories like this in the Czech republic (and in the world) and there is certain danger for employees of this companies and for civilian population who is in the danger area. There is more than 6700kg of ammonia in the factory Zora and it is quite a lot. We have to look at special precautions. Ammonia is taken as moderately toxic substance that irritates the eyes, mucous membranes, and in high concentrations can cause death. Another dangerous effect, except the toxicity is its explosiveness and flammability. Impacts of hazardous concentrations are not threat only for people but also for animals and the environment.

Regionální diferenciace populačního vývoje v Ústeckém kraji: historickogeografická analýza / Regional differentiation in the population development of Ústecký Region: historic-geographic analysis

FIKAROVÁ, Nikola January 2018 (has links)
This master´s thesis is focused on analysis of regional differentiation of population development in Ústecký Region. The analysis is divided into three stages of human society evolution, such as pre-industrial, industrial and post-industrial. Beside these stages, the thesis also deals with a historical context of given period and at the same time, deals with comparison of this phenomena with the rest of the Czech. The population in Ústecký Region was influenced by factors, as natural and socioeconomic determinants. The thesis emphasises phenomena connected to railways, hierarchical arrangements of residences and their administrative functions. Intensity of these three facts had been examined on a sample of 119 villages. After the analysis, the evaluation of dynamics of the population development follows; this time it is viewed from the perspective of microregions. The synthetic part follows the analysis and deals with categorization of those microregions, it generalises population´s trends and it predicates its development. The final part then confirms hypothesis given in the beginning of the thesis.
