This thesis discusses the optimization of non-periodic open structure continuous-fibre PMFRC parts where yarns extend along 3D paths that maximize the specific structural performance of the resulting part for specific load cases. The work focuses on optimizing the geometry of dry yarn structures using steepest ascent (SA) methods and calculating structural performance of the resulting PMFRC parts using finite element analysis (FEA).

We study the quadratic form induced by the Bezoutian of two polynomials p and q, considering four problems. First, over R, in the separable case we count the number of configurations of real roots of p and q for which the Bezoutian has a fixed signature. Second, over Qp we develop a formula for the Hasse invariant of the Bezoutian. Third, we formulate a conjecture for the behavior of the Bezoutian in the non separable case, and offer a proof over R. We wrote a Pari code to test it over Qp and Q and found no counterexamples. Fourth, we state and prove a theorem that we hope will help prove the conjecture in the near future. / text

Les lignes aériennes, comment deviennent-elles entrelacs sur la surface d'un papier de dessin, d'un tissu ? Comment ce qui semble léger, insaisissable, forme un enrichissement? Comment répondre aux appels de l'enfant qui est en nous, l'autre part demeurée sur l'autre continent ? Ma lecture de "Qu'est- ce que le contemporain ?" de G. Agamben. me propulse dans une obscurité étoilée. Je me réfère à G. Bachelard afin de conceptualiser les images rêvées. "Les mille et une nuits" et "Les aventures des trois princes de Serendip" font de mes expériences un voyage, initié par "Pèlerinage d'un artiste amoureux" de A. Khatibi. Este trabalho apresenta uma nova solução para conversão de campos de vídeo entrelaçado em quadros progressivos, processo conhecido como desentrelaçamento. Os algoritmos de desentrelaçamento \"estado da arte\", na tentativa de evitar a geração de artefatos de vídeo do tipo \"efeito feathering\", tendem a gerar borramento e degradar a qualidade da imagem. O objetivo é melhorar a qualidade dos quadros produzidos pelo processo de desentrelaçamento pela combinação de dois processos já existentes, sendo um deles do tipo intracampo e outro do tipo intercampos. A estratégia proposta se baseia na identificação de artefatos gerados por um processo de desentrelaçamento intercampos, com suporte de um detector de artefatos do tipo \"efeito feathering\" e da análise dos dados gerados por este detector utilizando um \"índice de aglomeração de artefatos\", que neste trabalho foi denominado Spot Index. As regiões afetadas pelo efeito feathering são identificadas e substituídas pelas regiões equivalentes extraídas de um quadro gerado por um método intracampo, normalmente pouco afetado por feathering. Os testes demonstraram que a estratégia proposta é capaz de produzir quadros desentrelaçados com maior qualidade visual do que a obtida com um único tipo de método aplicado de modo global, pois é capaz de explorar, extrair e combinar as qualidades de cada método. Uma avaliação estatística de hipóteses demonstrou que a estratégia proposta traz vantagens consideráveis em relação às técnicas aplicadas de modo global. / This work presents a new solution for converting interlaced video fields into progressive frames, a process known as video deinterlacing. Current state-of-the-art de-interlacing algorithms, in an attempt to avoid the generation of feathering effect video artifacts, tend to generate blurring and degrade image quality. The objective is to improve the quality of the frames produced by the de-interlacing process by combining two existing processes, one of them being intra-field and the other an inter-field type. The proposed strategy is based on the identification of artifacts generated by an inter-field deinterlacing process, supported by a \"feathering effect\" artifact detector and the analysis of the data generated by this detector using an \"agglomeration index of artifacts\", which in this work was called \"Spot Index\". The regions affected by the feathering effect are identified and replaced by the equivalent regions extracted from a frame produced by an intra-field process known as \"Edge-based Line Averaging\" (ELA). Tests have demonstrated that the proposed strategy is able to produce deinterlaced frames with higher quality than the one obtained with a single type of method applied in a global way, because it is able to explore, extract and combine the qualities of each method. A statistical evaluation of hypotheses has shown that the proposed strategy brings considerable advantages over globally applied deinterlacing techniques.

Este estudo pretende levantar as influências contidas na trilogia de Folheto de Cordel de Chico de Assis. Para tanto combinou a pesquisa sobre o folheto de cordel de modo geral com o estudo da formação do Teatro de Arena, do Seminário de Dramaturgia (SEMDA) conduzido pelo então diretor do grupo Augusto Boal, ambos em São Paulo e, a fundação do CPC da UNE no Rio de Janeiro. O autor, além de ter passado por todas essas atividades como integrante ativo, escreveu os três textos durante esses período (1954-1964). Foi também levantado o aproveitamento das propostas contidas no teatro épico de Brecht, utilizadas nos dois primeiros textos da trilogia; O Teatamento do Cangaceiro e As Aventuras de Ripió Lacraia e, por fim o levantamento das características do terceiro texto, a comédia de costumes Farsa com Cangaceiro, truco e Padre (Xandú Quaresma), todos esses elementos criaram um referencial possível para a análise da trilogia, que vai dos nomes dos episódios à função da música no trabalho de entrelaçamento das peças. / This survey wishes to raise the influences gained in these sustained cheap literature (Cordel) trilogy. In order to produce, it combined a survey on Brazilian cheap (Cordel) literature in general, with the formation of Teatro de Arena and the Drama seminary (SEMDA) conducted by the director of the group Augusto Boal, in São Paulo. And, studying of the settlement of the CPC- da UNE foundation (Popular Cultural Center of National Students Union) in Rio de Janeiro. The author besides passing through all these actions as an active member, created the three plays during this period (1954-!964). At last, the utilization of the purposes enclosed in Brecht epic theatre, in the first two plays; O Testamento do Cangaceiro and As Aventuras de Ripió Lacraia. Also raised the main characteristics of the third play Farsa com Cangaceiro, truco and Padre, (Xandú Quaresma). All these elements created a possible condition to analyze the trilogy, which goes from the name of the episodes to the music function interlacing the work of the plays.

In this thesis, a block-based motion estimation algorithm suitable for Super-Resolution (SR) image reconstruction is introduced. The motion estimation problem is formulated as an energy minimization problem that consists of both a data and regularization term. To handle cases when motion estimation fails, a block-based validity method is introduced, and is shown to outperform all other validity methods in the literature in terms of hybrid de-interlacing. By combining the validity metric into the energy minimization framework, it is shown that 1) the motion vector error is made less sensitive to block size, 2) a more uniform distribution of motion-compensated blocks results, and 3) the overall motion vector error is reduced. The final motion estimation algorithm is shown to outperform several state-of-the-art motion estimation algorithms in terms of both endpoint error and interpolation error, and is one of the fastest algorithms in the Middlebury benchmark. With the new motion estimation algorithm and validity metric, it is shown that artifacts are virtually eliminated from the POCS-based reconstruction of the high-resolution image.

Polyimide thin films have been widely used in microelectronic and Micro-Electro-Mechanical System applications due to their many excellent characteristics including low dielectric constant, easy processing, good step coverage ability, high heat resistance and chemical resistance. This paper presents the design, fabrication and complete characterization of an innovative capacitive relative humidity (RH) microsensor. The double polyimide thin films adopted in this study function as a capacitance sensing layer and a protecting layer of top electrodes respectively. To improve the humidity sensitivity and responding speed, interlacing out-of-plane electrodes are designed in the RH microsensor. The higher sensitivity ( 1.25 pF/¢HRH ), optimized sensing linearity ( 99.968¢H ) , very low hysteresis ( 0.24 ¢HRH ), excellent stability ( 1.36 ¢HRH ) , high accuracy ( ¡Ó 1.12 ¢HRH ) and fast response ( within 1 seconds ) characteristics of the RH microsensor have been demonstrated in this thesis.
