Change Management and Supply Chain Management : Employee issues in implementation processes of SCM - The action and re-action related to changes in each stage of an implementation process

Toivo, Emma January 2008 (has links)
Competition on today’s market is fierce. Providing a defect-free product is no more a competitive advantage. Now money and focus is put on managing the supply chain, a competitive tool to thriving in today’s business climate. There are two distinct flow pipelines: the order information transfer pipeline and the product transfer pipeline, both dependent on the collaboration efforts of individuals. Evolving within supply chain management equals integrating the supply chain from basic to complex; from baseline or functional to internal or external. Bringing focus to where it is found to be lacking, this literary study highlights and connects issues that may arise during implementation of external supply chain integration. The focal point is thus on employee reactions to change, with each stage of implementation that the implementation issues connect to. Simultaneously, the study provides (pre)requisites to management during the different stages, which would support the implemented transition in its different phases. The result of this study is a Manger Model that gives an overview of each of the implementation stages, the requisites for management and issues regarding employees at each of the stages. Constructed to be applicable to more than just external integration the model encompasses all the gathered models and theories through a discussion of not only the complexity of the internal and the external supply chain, but also the complex nature of the individuals caught within the implementation, both from the manager’s as well as the employee’s point of view.

The combination of knowledge resources through internal integration and the acquisition of partner information through external integration seems to be necessary for the conduct of innovative projects in small enterprises. This paper aims to understand how these two forms of integration influence in innovation in small enterprises. For this, a quantitative, bibliographical and documentary research was conducted. Among the results obtained are the understanding of how external and internal integration relationships are configured for innovation, as well as their influence on management practices that may aid in the innovative process. It was revealed in this study that there is a relation between external integration and internal integration. When observing external integration, we see a correlation with product, operational and environmental management, and how its practices are associated with market management practices. Observing the internal integration, one can notice the relations taking place with the management of product, market and operational development, as well as their practices are also associated. Considering the results obtained, it can be stated that this study demonstrates the importance of external and internal integration practices for innovation in operational management, product development, market and environmental. When making use of some kind of external or internal collaboration, we can see the positive influence on management practices. The finding of this fact in small Brazilian companies shows that external and internal integration must be present, considering the size characteristics are favorable for the development of innovation in all its areas. / CNPq: 131707/2015-9

Knowledge integration with customers in collaborative product developmentproject

Eslami, Mohammad H. January 2017 (has links)
Driven by rapid technological developments, greater customer expectations, and increased product complexity, product development processes increasingly rely on the integration of dispersed specialist knowledge.Consequently, many industrial firms are changing the way they approach product development. Productdevelopment increasingly relies on knowledge integration across firm boundaries. Customers are one of the mostindispensable sources of knowledge, and their knowledge needs to be integrated during product development. However, little is known about the processes and mechanisms used to integrate customer knowledge in productdevelopment. Therefore, firms must devise processes and mechanisms that support knowledge integration withcustomers. This thesis aims to investigate knowledge integration with customers in collaborative productdevelopment. The work described in this thesis combines a case study with a survey approach. More specifically, five casestudies were conducted at three industrial manufacturing firms. Data were collected in 46 interviews, along withinformal discussions, workshops, and secondary material. The case studies revealed the role of knowledgeintegration, knowledge integration mechanisms, and the importance of contextual factors related to the customer’stechnical capability, and the locus of initiative for the product development project. A cross-sectional survey wasperformed in order to ascertain the role of knowledge integration and its effect on innovation performance and theeffect of firms and customers’ technical capability and locus of initiative on knowledge integration withcustomers. The survey study generated 216 responses from firms operating in the Swedish manufacturingindustry. This thesis consists of a compiled summary and five appended papers. The results in these provide the basis formodelling knowledge integration with customers. The findings confirm that integrating knowledge withcustomers in product development is associated with better innovation performance. Further, the results point tothe dynamic characteristics of knowledge integration in product development processes. More specifically, firmstend to apply different combinations of mechanisms in different phases, depending on the intended content of theknowledge contribution of the customer and the requirements of each phase in the development process. Inaddition, the degree of technical capability, internal integration capability, and locus of initiative are importantfactors influencing knowledge integration processes. This thesis sheds new light on collaborative productdevelopment with customers by demonstrating that knowledge, and particularly the integration of knowledgeacross firm boundaries, is a central property of product development. The study focuses on industrial andmanufacturing firms, complementing current perspectives on the role of customers in other sectors. In thisparticular sector, complexity and system-wide implications need to be resolved together with customers throughknowledge integration activities. An important implication of the thesis is that firms need to devise mechanismsfor knowledge integration with customers, and be prepared to redevise these as the firm progresses through theproduct development phases.

No. of bitstreams: 1 TeseAA.pdf: 2983498 bytes, checksum: ec6b1dec1141931fd363b74758f44585 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-10-21 / Não recebi financiamento / The aim of this thesis was to investigate how Human Resource practices contribute to overcome barriers and to produce facilitating factors to internal integration of companies in the context of Supply Chain Management. Both barriers and facilitating factors are influenced by the human factor, which, in turn, is still not considered in research related to Supply Chain Management. Therefore, we carried out a literature review to build the theoretical foundation, using the Systematic Review of Literature, whose results were systematized into two main discussion blocks: (i) characterization of internal integration in the context of Supply Chain Management, and (ii) interaction between Human Resource Management and Supply Chain Management with emphasis on Human Resource practices. This theoretical foundation supported the development of the research empirical phase, a qualitative approach, using multiple case studies as a research method. We investigated six medium to large national companies, representative in their sectors. Data collection was conducted through interviews with supply chain managers (or equivalent position) and human resource managers, document analysis and direct observation. In the six investigated companies, we found that the development of actions in Human Resource practices for the specific needs of Supply Chain Management generate positive effects in overcoming the barriers to internal integration and improve facilitating factors. The contributions from the Human Resources practices for companies' internal integration in the context of Supply Chain Management could be grouped according to the following points: (1) professional training and support in determining the professional profile to work in Supply Chain Management, including the position "Supply Chain Manager", (2) implementation of projects for Supply Chain Management and change management, (3) support in structuring the Supply Chain area, (4) stimulating teamwork, and (5) relevance of internal recruitment. Overall, the results obtained in this research indicate that internal integration for Supply Chain Management can be seen from the perspective of Human Resource Management, especially when considering the influence of the human factor for the success of initiatives and supply chain practices.
