Theoretical justification of sampling choices in international marketing research: Key issues and guidelines for researchers.

Reynolds, Nina L., Diamantopoulos, A., Simintiras, A. January 2003 (has links)
No / Sampling in the international environment needs to satisfy the same requirements as sampling in the domestic environment, but there are additional issues to consider, such as the need to balance within-country representativeness with cross-national comparability. However, most international marketing research studies fail to provide theoretical justification for their choice of sampling approach. This is because research design theory and sampling theory have not been well integrated in the context of international research. This paper seeks to fill the gap by developing a framework for determining a sampling approach in international studies. The framework is based on an assessment of the way in which sampling affects the validity of research results, and shows how different research objectives impact upon (a) the desired sampling method and (b) the desired sample characteristics. The aim is to provide researchers with operational guidance in choosing a sampling approach that is theoretically appropriate to their particular research aims.

The pursuit of peaceful development : How China's foreign policy and its national security are connected

By Shenhjie, Zheng, Liu, Xucheng January 2015 (has links)
Since the Open-Door Policy has been carried out in 1979, China has gained dramatic improvements in many fields, such as economies and military. At the same time, the considerable changes also bring China many crises from the complicated international envirorunent. This thesis will illustrate these questions through nationalism and realism theoretical framework by using case study with a qualitative approach as the method. With the Five Peaceful Principles of Co-existence based foreign policy, this thesis will experience "Century of Humiliation" of China again and redefine the rising power of China through a case study about Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands dispute between China and Japan. Although it is a little hard to analyze this case under a complicated international environment, plenty of document information will support to get a result of how China's foreign policy and national security are interlinked? Finally, "national insecurities" and "humiliating history" are drawn as the key factors that affect China's foreign policy making, and the interconnections of China's peaceful diplomacy and national security. "National insecurities" and "humiliating history" drive China to make the foreign policy of peaceful development, otherwise, to ensure national security, China need to strengthen the comprehensive national power.

Networks, relationships, and help : creating and maintaining engagement in global virtual "open" teams / Des réseaux, des relations, de l'aide : la création et la maintien de l'engagement dans l'équipe virtuelle mondiale

Santistevan, Diana 31 August 2015 (has links)
The objective of this empirical study is to explore how managers engage team members in global virtual ‘open’ teams. Open teams are a collection of individuals with varying levels of interdependence, who contribute toward shared organizational objectives, who are seen by others as an intact social entity within one or more larger systems, whose membership is neither bounded nor stable, and whose members participate in multi-team systems, and whose managers have formal responsibility for group outcomes but little to no formal authority. Open teams are a phenomenon found in multinationals and large consulting firms, but little research is focused on this type of team. Using grounded theory, this research examines the open teams at a large multinational. Over a period of two years, 70 formal interviews with 66 employees were conducted and 28 days of observations in nine countries were logged. The study introduces the concept of ‘open team’ and contributes to three theoretical frameworks: engagement theory, boundary spanning theory and functional leadership theory. It extends Kahn’s theory of engagement by showing how leaders influence meaningfulness and psychological safety to improve the psychological conditions for engagement. In boundary spanning theory, the boundary work concept is extended by providing empirical evidence for boundary coordination and boundary creation as well as introducing two new boundary spanning practices. In function leadership theory, six leadership functions emerge from the study of open teams and show how another six changed due to the open team structure.

Systems Thinking and Culture in International Relations: A Foreign Policy Approach

Safdari Ghandehari, Roozbeh January 2016 (has links)
The mainstream theories of international relations (IR) can be categorized under two approaches: Cultural and Systems. Although the two approaches appear to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum, this paper aims to evaluate both approaches, and to provide a systemic approach to foreign policy: The systems thinking and culture (STC). STC attempts to incorporate domestic culture, a unit-level force, in analyzing states’ behavior in the international system, while still preserving the structure, as emphasized in systemic theories like neorealism. The STC model shows how the domestic culture as a unit-level force, and the structure as a systems-level force, can shape a state’s behavior and policies in the international political system.

La négociation des conventions internationales dans le domaine de la protection de l'environnement : contribution à l'évaluation des déterminants juridiques économiques et politiques / Negotiation of international conventions in the area of environment protection : contribution to the assessment of legal, economic and polical determinants

Laourou, Eloi 02 December 2014 (has links)
Humankind is facing many environmental problems nowadays: diverse forms of pollution, climate warming, desertification, floods, waste accumulation, water scarcity, progressive extinction of animal and plant species etc. To deal with these problems, diverse activities and initiatives are carried out, at local, national, sub-regional, regional and international levels. Among these, is the negotiation of international conventions in the area of environment. The current thesis sets about two folds: firstly, it analyses the justifications of the negotiation as it lays on non-legal and legal determinants. Secondly, it assesses the negotiations issue as these are played between conflicts of interest and seeking of consensus. The thesis identifies elements, factors and key stakeholders that have effect on decisions and positions taken in the sphere of international negotiations. Thus, the negotiations of environmental treaties are both the expression of a classical practice for adopting international commitments and of a particular context for environmental thematic, at the crossroads, precisely of law, economy, politics and social. Then, it can be said that consensus more than confrontation, general principles more than strict obligations, are sought. The assessment to be made is that the negotiation of environmental treaties remains an activity which is not only useful but also necessary as it seeks to respond to the problems considered above, as they occur, looking for appropriate and strict legal frameworks.
