Heynes, Nicole Alicia January 2007 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Public Management))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2007 / Since 1994 government has attempted through various sets of legislation and regulations to create a policy environment, which is conducive and supportive of effective recruitment and selection and service delivery. The Public Service has currently embarked on restructuring in an attempt to improve its service delivery. An effective and efficient recruitment and selection system should facilitate achievement of that goal. The general research aim is to evaluate and measure the effectiveness of recruitment and selection and its impact on service delivery amongst staff within the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in the Provincial Government of the Western Cape. Research has shown that motivated and satisfied employees are more productive and that there is an improvement on service delivery. Factors, which influence employee motivation, are inter alia as efficient recruitment and selection methods, achievement, advancement, being treated with respect and personal growth and development. The sample group (N=121) consists of male and female employees, contract employees, permanent employees and interns within the Department of Economic Development and Tourism in the Provincial Government of the Western Cape.

The lived experiences of nurses with perfomance reviews in a public hospital in the Eastern Cape Province : a phenominological approach

Xego, Siziwe Winnifred 11 1900 (has links)
Performance Management and Development System (PMDS) is a process of harnessing human and material resources within an organisation to ensure maximum performance to achieve the desired results of improved quality of health service delivery. This study explored and described the ontological experiences of nurses of all categories with contracting and doing performance reviews in a public hospital in the Eastern Cape Province. Purposive sampling approach was used to recruit all categories of nurses Data was collected through unstructured, individual, in-depth interviews with professional nurses and focus group interviews with lower categories. Techs eight step data analysis method was employed to analyse data. Major findings were related to lack of supervisor cooperation, shortage of resources, difficulty in calculating the scores, lack of understanding the tool, time constraints and paperwork which results in the tool being viewed as time consuming. Positive findings were that experiences such as improved relations resulting from spending time with supervisors during performance review sessions. Guidelines were developed, based on the findings, to empower both nurse clinicians and the supervisors in the implementation of the PMDS. , / Health Studies / D. Litt. et Phil. (Health Studies)

Ouditproses van 'n kerklike welsynsorganisasie : n beskrywing van maatskaplike werkers se ervaring

Pretorius, Manda 06 1900 (has links)
Evaluation determines the impact of social services as well as job performance and assures communities that social workers render effective services. Post audits are done as part of performance management at the Christian Social Councils in the Highveld Synodal Region. The purpose of this research is to look at the experiences of social workers that had a post audit to determine whether adjustments to improve the audit system are needed. A qualitative approach with an exploratory, descriptive and contextual research design was followed. Participants were identified according to the purposive sampling method. Data was collected during semi-structured interviews. The data was analysed and verified according to the models of Tesch (in Creswell, 2003) and Guba (in Krefting, 1991), respectively, and processed in the research report. / Social Work / M. A. Die emosionele belewing van graad 7 leerders in 'n bendegeteisterde gebied

Jeffries, Victor Vincent 11 1900 (has links)
Summaries in Afrikaans and Engish / The aim of this research was to explore the emotional experience of grade 7 learners in a gang afflicted area. The researcher further investigated how the learners experience this gang violence and how they give meaning to it The researcher also examined the possible ways in which the educational psychologist could assist these learners in actualising their full potential. A literature study of relevant sources has been undertaken to establish the theoretical context of the gang related problem. Two groups of 8 grade 7 learners were used as respondents in the empirical study. The qualitative research method has been used and the researcher made use of focus groups and interviews as measuring instruments. The results of the empirical study have shown that learners experience gang violence negatively when they are exposed to it on a regular basis and that it impacts negatively on their performance at school. / Psychology of Education / M.Ed.
