Settlement location : and its spatial relation to graves in Örnsköldsvik municipality / Boplats placering : och dess rumsliga relation till gravar i Örnsköldsviks kommun

Nylander, André January 2022 (has links)

The Contribution of Glacial Isostatic Adjustment to Past and Contemporary Relative Sea-Level Rise Along the Atlantic Coast of Europe

Chapman, Geoffrey Alan 06 February 2024 (has links)
Contemporary and future relative sea-level (RSL) rise that can be attributed to anthropogenic climate change sees significant spatial variability as a result of the processes that underlie it. Some of the processes that contribute to RSL rise unrelated to anthropogenic climate change can and have had significant contributions. In this work, we examined the contributions of one of these processes, glacial isostatic adjustment (GIA), in the coastal regions of Atlantic Europe. These regions have seen significant RSL rise associated with a collapsing peripheral bulge throughout the Holocene and are expected to see more throughout the Anthropocene. Using the recently published paleo sea level database (García-Artola et al., 2018) which follows the HOLSEA RSL data assessment and reporting protocol (Khan et al., 2019) we determined optimal Earth model parameters for much of Atlantic Europe. These optimal parameters fit the data well and largely agree with values determined for previous works on peripheral bulges along the coasts of North America. We further used these results to perform a rudimentary sea-level budget analysis at 10 tide gauge stations, yielding results with high uncertainties and significant discrepancies between observed and projected rates of RSL change for half (5) of the tide gauge stations. Our results lead to the conclusion that GIA remains an important factor when predicting present and future RSL change.

Design and manufacturing of moulds in isostatic pressing using CAD/CAE technology and rapid prototyping.

Canto, Rodrigo Bresciani 08 November 2002 (has links)
This work presents a methodology for the design and fabrication of ceramic powder isostatic pressing moulds using CAD and CAE tools and Rapid Prototyping. The isostatic pressing process was simulated using the finite element method. The compaction behavior of ceramic powder is described by the Drucker-Prager/cap constitutive model and the behavior of elastomeric material is described by the Mooney-Rivlin constitutive model within the commercial finite element software ABAQUS®. These simulations are required to adjust the mould design in order to suit the geometry of the compact and green machining allowance. For this study, it is used a case study consisting of pressing a ceramic sphere for hip implant stem. A virtual prototype was designed from the geometry obtained from the simulations and reproduced in Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) polymer, using the Rapid Prototyping technology - Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). Silicone moulds were obtained from the polymer prototype and used to aid in the making of the elastomeric bag and mould support cage. The methodology used in this investigation was validate considering that the simulations yield to a good agreement with measured manufactured components.

Holocene paleohydrology from Lake of the Woods and Shoal Lake cores using ostracodes, thecamoebians and sediment properties

Mellors, Trevor 07 September 2010 (has links)
Ten sediment cores (2.0-8.5 m long) from various locations in Lake of the Woods (LOTWs) and Shoal Lake (SL) were recovered in August 2006, using a Kullenberg piston corer. From the study of the macrofossils (primarily ostracodes and thecamoebians) and the sediments in six processed cores, variations in paleoconditions were observed both spatially and temporally, and the timing of these changes were identified in over 10,000 years of postglacial history. Ostracodes disappeared from the LOTWs record from about 9000 to 7600 calendar years before present (BP) (about 5800 in SL), after LOTWs became isolated from glacial Lake Agassiz. Thecamoebians appeared in many cores around 2000 calendar years BP, with the earliest appearance at 9200. Buried paleosols in three cores indicate portions of the lake dried on several occasions during the Hypsithermal, perhaps indicating the region’s future climate response. One core contained a pink clay bed indicative of the Marquette readvance about 11,300 years (BP), and the subsequent input of water from the Superior basin.

Integrated modeling for stratigraphic development of the Mackenzie Trough and the Eastern Beaufort Shelf, N.W.T., Canada

Picard, Kim 08 August 2012 (has links)
Glaciated shelves develop under the influence of a more complex suite of processes than most non-glaciated shelves. Amongst the specific processes are the glacially-influenced sediment supply and the glacial-isostatic adjustment (GIA), which is largely responsible for the complex nature of regional relative sea-levels (RSLs). This study first characterizes the impact of GIA on the Mackenzie-Beaufort region by presenting a new set of RSL curves derived from a modern gravitationally self-consistent sea level model computing the effects of glacio-hydro isostasy, geoid changes, and true polar wander. The results of the RSL model present cross-shelf variations in the order of 100 m and along-shelf of 30 m during the LGM. The model also suggests a different timing and range to the single RSL curve presently used for this region. Depending on the location, the lowstand is modeled between 14 and 12 ka BP and reached between 85 and 140 m below present sea-level. These new findings are used in the second part of the study to evaluate the impacts of GIA along with other factors on the Late Quaternary evolution of the Canadian Beaufort Shelf. SedFlux, a process-based stratigraphic simulation model is used. Uncertainties associated with post-LGM conditions create difficulties in establishing good model parameterization. Thus, simulations are first performed on the Mackenzie Trough area, where data availability permits better evaluation and constraint of parameters that are then applied to the more data poor Eastern Beaufort Shelf environment. The results of the stratigraphic simulations suggest that the ice sheet margin in the Mackenzie-Beaufort region was more extensive than previously assumed. The impact of GIA on the stratigraphy of the Mackenzie Trough is to develop more progradational than retrogradational stratigraphic features. Simulations of the Eastern Beaufort Shelf suggest that a previously dated sample from the Uviluk borehole is not a RSL indicator as previously thought and by taking this into consideration, the borehole stratigraphy can be modeled. Modeling of multiple cycles of glacial/interglacial RSL with glacial outwash deposition supports the interpretation of the Late Quaternary geology suggested by Murton (2009). Finally, glacial outburst floods funnelling through the area would have mostly bypassed the shelf and contributed to its progradation. If flood water were directed to the Mackenzie Trough, the deposits are likely found within the lower wedge. / Graduate

Among them, the ceramic base of stabilized zirconia with 3% yttria (3Y - TZP) stand out for having excellent physical and mechanical properties. During the machining of blocks of zirconia in the laboratory to prepare the various types of prostheses, much of the material is given off in the form of powder, which is subsequently discarded. The waste of this material results in financial loss, reflecting higher final cost treatment for patients, as well as damage to the environment, thanks to the processes involved in the manufacture and disposal of the ceramic. This research, pioneered the recycling of zirconium oxide powder obtained during milling of dental crowns and bridges, we highlight the social and environmental aspects and aims to establish a protocol for the reuse of waste (powder of zirconia Zirkonzahn? system) discarded to obtain a new block of compacted zirconia to maintain the same mechanical and microstructural properties of commercial high-cost imported material. To compare with the commercial material, samples were uniaxially (20 MPa) and isostatically (100 MPa), and its mechanical and microstructural characterization was performed through tests of density, porosity, dilatometry, X-ray diffraction (XRD), hardness, fracture toughness, resistance to fracture electron microscopy (SEM) and analysis of grain size. The results observed in the samples were isostatically pressed similiares those obtained with samples from the commercial material demonstrating the viability of the process / Na atualidade, o material de escolha para execu??o de trabalhos prot?ticos est?ticos em odontologia ? o cer?mico.
