In this sense, we tried, through a historical perspective, to find the literaries origins of this usual character in our Literature, mainly in the Brazilian Regionalism, and understand how she was utilized in bernardian writing. / Este trabalho, Descaminhos Gerais: a representação do jagunço em Bernardo Élis, visa estudar as formas com as quais o autor goiano, Bernardo Élis, representa e configura as imagens do jagunço no seu discurso romanesco, O Tronco. Neste sentido, procuramos, através de uma perspectiva histórica, encontrar as origens míticas e literárias desta personagem recorrente de nossa Literatura, mormente no Regionalismo brasileiro, e entender como ela foi utilizada pela escritura bernardiana.
