Um estudo comparado entre \'A vida verdadeira de Domingos Xavier, de José Luandino Vieira e \'Memórias do cárcere\', de Graciliano Ramos / Two jails, a certainty: the death - a comparative study between the narratives \'A vida verdadeira de Domingos Xavier\' of José Luandino Vieira and \'Memórias do Cárcere\' of Graciliano RamosDavid, Debora Leite 09 June 2006 (has links)
This work presents a compared analyze taked under the reserch line of \"literature and society in countries of portuguese language.\" In this way, we carry through a comparative study between the narratives A vida verdadeira de Domingos Xavier of José Luandino Vieira, writen in 1961 and published in 1974, and Memórias do cárcere of Graciliano Ramos, writen in the period of 1946 to 1952, and published after the writer\'s death in 1953. José Garrido Torres nas sombras do poder: um economista na construção do projeto de modernização de 1964 / José Garrido Torres in the shadows of power: an economist in the construction of the modernization Project of 1964Diego Batista Penholato 17 March 2017 (has links)
This research aims to present the professional career of José Garrido Torres and, from it, understand the debate on the economic development in Brazil between the early 1940s and the first half of the 1970s. We investigated the intellectual production and the activities performed by Garrido Torres in various public and private institutions in Brazil and abroad. We intend to discuss how a specific proposal for economic and social modernization has brought a clear policy proposal squashed in fight against communism, totalitarianism, through the dissemination of values they preached the restructuring of the Brazilian economy and its forms of financing in view of the assumptions of free enterprise. We have also audited, as articulated a modernization project that was consolidated in the Brazilian state apparatus from the civil-military coup of 1964. This project, systematically discussed from the formation of the IPES is fundamental to understanding the set of reforms put in practice after the coup.

Primitivismo y Modernidad en la Literatura Modernista HispanoamericanaGonzalez, Sara Marta 04 December 2017 (has links)
This dissertation explores the troubled relationship between Hispanic-American Modernism and modernity through the close study of a representative array of authors (José Martí, Rubén Darío, Enrique Gómez Carrillo, Augusto Dhalmar and Pedro Prado). My analysis departs from the revisionist theories of Angel Rama and Ivan A. Schulman, which changed the traditional views about the movement towards a more complete vision of its role as a literature that is highly subversive.
During the XIX century, America experienced a vigorous cultural awakening unsupported by an incomplete modernization whose more fundamental principles are challenged by the systematic use of primitivism by these authors. I propose that by analyzing how primitivism is used as an essential tool for criticism, a deeper understanding of a highly codified literature and its importance as precursor of the Vanguard may be reached.

Jose Rizal and the Spanish NovelCastroverde, Aaron C. January 2013 (has links)

This dissertation is a preliminary attempt to define and theorize Spanish literature of the late nineteenth century from the perspective of the colonized. I take as my starting point the novels of the Filipino writer José Rizal: Noli me tángere and El filibusterismo. Although these novels are considered to be the foundational texts of the Philippine nation, I will instead focus on their relationship to Spain and the literature produced there around the same period. This analysis will be contrasted with a reading of Benito Pérez Galdós's novel Doña Perfecta, which, as many critics have claimed, bears a resemblance to Rizal's first novel. I will show how Galdós's novel demonstrates a colonizing mentality despite being nominally about an internal Spanish conflict. In conclusion, I will argue for the necessity of an understanding of Rizal's novels in order to better grasp the total context in which peninsular Spanish novels were produced.
/ Dissertation
