Previous issue date: 2016-09-19 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Databases fed with news produced for the Web represent an information repository with technological potential to be reused in a number of ways and by other digital platforms connected via networks. This is one of the transformations in the journalistic production process, induced by the technological evolution which demand new abililites. Among them, the need to organise, recover and reuse this material. For this reason, this work intends to show how the adoption of structures based in metadata contributes to the development of news information produced and stored in these databases. Therefore, it relies on the concept of computational thinking to encourage the intersection of knowledges between Communications, Information and Computer Science, in addition to investigate the impact of this relationships in the routines of production and creation of media products. Propelled by the importance of the memory for the journalistic production and the discussions around the Web of Data and open semantic standards, the discussions also goes on the possibility of news channels to become platforms, encouraging to have invisible relationships between themes and contexts, the intersection between journalists and Web developers. Based on an exploratory study involving five media organisations, in the identification of attributes that characterize different levels of structuration and an analytical tool proposition based on features adopted by these vehicles, it is argued that the adoption of markups, controlled vocabulary schemas, formal onthologies or other schemas are crucial for journalism adaptation facing a new and constantly changing scenery.

Previous issue date: 2015-08-14 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / Journalism is the main of many ways to offer themes to discuss and shape the public opinion, but depends on a technical system to be transmitted. For over a hundred years, the information produced by the press were issued, stored, transmitted and received by the so-called mass communication vehicles, using centralized network, whose features are in material shortages, mass production and massification. This system separates in time and space emitters and receivers creating an unequal relation of power, in which large companies have controlled the informative flow, defining what facts would be aired as news. In 1995, the internet which information circulates under distributed network technology, has been appropriated by society, changing the ways of production, storage and transmission of information. The technology aroused the hope that this tool could provide a more dialogic and democratic communication. However, gradually, it is possible to notice new companies taking ownership of the technology of distributed network under which circulates the internet, generating a new control of the information flow. This research conducted a survey and a critical reflection of the different intermediaries between the fact and the news, both in centralized network and in the distributed network, aiming to arouse a discussion that provides new ideas for policies and alternatives for a more libertarian and democratic communication.

Describing dynamic data journalism: developing a survey of news applicationsBoss, Katherine, Broussard, Meredith 30 October 2017 (has links)
Preserving dynamic, born-digital data journalism requires more than web scraping, as news stories today are built from much more than just text and images. Data journalism projects like news applications, or “news apps,” are composed of a database, the data in the database, the graphical interface that appears in the browser, accompanying text, and often images, videos, audio, and other multimedia components. Existing Internet archiving methods are not sufficient to save these data journalism projects for the future.
This paper summarizes the context and history of news apps archiving, and describes the development of a survey of news applications. This survey will be used to create a working list of news organizations that are producing data journalism in the United States and a better sense of how and where these projects are currently being stored. The results of the survey will inform recommendations and processes for archiving dynamic data journalism.

Principy popularizace vědeckých poznatků na českých a amerických zpravodajských serverech / Principles of popularization and media coverage of scientific knowledge on the Czech and American news serversSamšuková, Eva January 2013 (has links)
Diploma thesis "Principles of popularization of scientific knowledge on the Czech and American news servers" evaluates and compares news published during three month period in scientific sections of news servers in the Czech Republic and the United States of America. The thesis follows room provided for scientific topics, the audiovisual features and theme agenda on NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, iDnes.cz and Novinky.cz. The results are accomplished through the quantitative content analysis which is supplemented by the qualitative semiotic analysis. The semiotic analysis determins compositional and narrative structures and the language features in the articles. It is very important to be concerned about the scientific journalism, as science is important in people's lives and, furthermore, it is the public who helps to support scientific efforts financially. Thus, scientists should be concerned about and aware of science communication in media.
