Modernização do karatê : Gichin Funakoshi e as tecnologias políticas do corpo /Pucineli, Fabio Augusto. January 2017 (has links)
This research intent to reflect about the contingencies that guided the modern Karate's emergency. Therefore, the objective is to investigate the discursive and non-discursive practices which constituted it. This research asks how an autochthonous practice coming from a specific region of pre-modern Japan, reinventing itself from the new social and political models, in order to overcome the demands that the transition process imposes. The research aims to investigate the modernization of Karate, discussing especially the reconfiguration of this practice as a martial art and also as a sport and interrogate the influences and importance of Gichin Funakoshi in the whole of this process, as well as the political technologies of the body involved. For this, Norbert Elias's configurational sociology and Michel Foucault's genealogical approach are used as the main methodological references. The research is constituted by bibliographical and documentary studies on the subject, as well as reports of ethnographic inspiration. The systematics of the research showed that Gichin Funakoshi established emblematic and decisive changes in the practice that he had learned at Okinawa. These changes were in line with the conditions under which Japan passed: the modernization of society and the formation of a Japanese nation-state. The legitimacy of Karate happens, then, by the rationalization of its discursive and non-discursive practices and also by its sportivized configuration / Mestre

Title: Selected motivational aspects for beginners and advanced in karate Aim: The main aim of my thesis was to learn how the current poor popularity of karate sport influences students of elementary and secondary schools in Prague and its surroundings and their motivation in this sport for achievements and at the same time to suggest how to furthermore support and expand motivation with these students. Methods: To gain information and data for this thesis I used survey methods and its specially designed questionnaire. Further additional interviews were used with advanced karate students with the highest ambitions and with former Czech Republic karate representatives (2006-2013) and compared with motivational aspect with these two different generations of athletes. There was second specially designed questionnaire for these additional interviews with a possibility for free answers. Results: Through the survey the differences in motivational aspects at beginners and advanced in karate were found and with additional interviews differences were found in ambitions and motivational aspects among former Czech Republic karate representatives and current advanced students with high ambitions in karate. Manager suggestions for motivation expansion with beginners and advanced karate people were also...

The Zen/Budo of the Arts: Discovering Transpersonal Influences and Insights into Cultural Integration Through the Artistry of the Kata in Traditional KarateUnknown Date (has links)
Many of Japan’s aesthetic, philosophical and cultural institutions were originated in China and India. This nexus created the basis for national unification by and through the use of the kata (trnsl: form or shape). Equally important is the component that integrates artistry into the kata, and eventually, into the kata of Shotokan karate. This particular occurrence compliments the historically important idea known as kokoro (mind-body-spirit), a Zen term but often synonymous with artistry and the artistic mindset. Kokoro can be seen as the product of cumulative intersections in philosophical discourse, framing Japanese beliefs in all things that led to a complex, yet unified expression of art, as well as a foundation for the inner constitution of each individual practitioner in the martial arts. More importantly, it involves a methodology known as Zen/Budo, referring to the separate but integrated spiritual practices of Zen, as it relates to traditional Zen philosophies. The second part of the conjoined term is Budo, the abbreviated version of Bushido (the “way” of the warrior) that guides the participant to a personal refinement of character and a deeper understanding of self. The combined representation of Zen and Budo summarize a highly regarded protocol for self-assessment and self-development. Thus, the afore-mentioned postulates are presented as the basis of this work. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2019. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Karate is a sport widely practiced around the world, with its number of practitioners constantly growing. His techniques involve complex movements of upper and lower limbs and require the performer speed, agility, technique, precision and efficient decision making. Due to expansion in the number of practitioners and competitions with demanding technical level increasing, its practitioners as well as their trainers and technicians have expressed the need for scientific support accordingly. Therefore, the aim of this study is to determine what biomechanical indicators differentiate the performance of athletes of different competitive levels in Karate while performing the Gyaku Tsuki and Mae Geri strokes.
