Srovnání rozsahu poškození a mortality ryb jako úlovku sportovních rybářů ponechaných v klasickém vezírku a speciálním saku {--} {\clq}tunelu` / A comparison of the extent of game fish damage and mortality during their storage alive in a standard keep-net and special bag {--}`tunnel{\crq}

STRAPINA, Josef January 2009 (has links)

KISSing and other strategies for successful communication : A case study on communication between Nordic and Chinese business people using English as a lingua franca / “KISSing” och andra strategier för framgångsrik kommunikation : En fallstudie om kommunikation mellan nordiska och kinesiska affärsmän och -kvinnor som använder engelska som lingua franca

Rixer, Johanna January 2016 (has links)
This is a case study on the communication between Nordic and Chinese business people using English as a lingua franca in their business communication. The aim of this paper is to establish if misunderstandings in communication occur between Chinese and Nordic language speakers (Finnish and Swedish) in a business environment and, if they do, what the nature of these misunderstandings is. In this paper, recorded conversations are analysed to establish if there are misunderstandings between the parties. The recordings were made at a global industrial company in Sweden and in China. Interviews with the participants were also carried out in order to establish their own ideas concerning the communication flow and to find out if the participants are themselves aware of using any particular communication strategies when interacting with one another. The results of the case study show that there were some misunderstandings in the communication between Nordic and Chinese business people; however, there were not any particularly serious misunderstandings with respect to the company’s business aims and objectives. The results indicate that the parties use communication strategies to enhance their messages and to determine if a message has been conveyed successfully. The strategies that were commonly used were confirmations in the form of follow-up questions and speaking slowly. Written or non-verbal communication were found to be used as a supplement to verbal communication. A strategy that the participants themselves noted as successful was keeping their messages short and simple. This is also known as the KISS-principle. The result of the study indicates potential misunderstandings caused by the Chinese using Yes as an act of active listening rather than agreement and it is suggested that an awareness of this cultural difference may help improve the intercultural communication between the parties.

Issues in Specifying Requirements for Adaptive Software Systems

Peng, Qian January 2009 (has links)

This thesis emphasizes on surveying the state-of-the-art in software requirements specification with a focus on, autonomic, self-adapting software systems. Since various requirements are brought forward accord with environments, modeling requirements for adaptive software systems may be changed at run-time. Nowadays, Keep All Objectives Satisfied (KAOS) is an effective method to build goal model. Various manipulations, such as change, remove, active and de-active goals, appear new goals, could mediate conflicts among goals in adaptive software system. At specification time, specifications of event sequences to be monitored are generated from requirements specification.

Artscapes: Community Perceptions of City Beautification through Murals in Denton, Texas

Robertson, Lindsey 12 1900 (has links)
Keep Denton Beautiful (KDB) is inspired by Keep America Beautiful's model of community engagement to create a clean, beautiful, and vibrant city. The community mural initiative, Artscapes, aims to enliven public spaces, abate graffiti, and inspire community members to keep Denton, Texas, clean and beautiful. The goals of this research project are to understand the impact of Artscapes initiative, community perceptions of public art, and find ways KDB can better align future mural projects with the needs and desires of community members. By talking to artists that have worked with KDB, members of the mural art committee, and community members from the neighborhoods that have existing murals, this research provides input from these three populations to continue creating public art for the Denton community. I discuss the context of my work through Lefebvre's concept of "Right to the City," Rafael Schacter's opposition between sanctioned and non-sanctioned murals, Bourdieu's concept of symbolic and social capital, and David Harvey's work on neoliberalism and the entrepreneurial city.

Communicating Antibiotic Resistance to the Public: How effective was Public Health England’s 2018 ‘Keep Antibiotics Working’ campaign TV advertisement at increasing public understanding of antibiotic resistance and motivating a change in antibiotic seeking behaviours?

Anjuli, Borgonha January 2019 (has links)
Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest global threats we face today. Human overuse ofantibiotics is a contributing factor and major behaviour change around antibioticconsumption is needed, but several challenges exist in communicating antibiotic resistanceto the public. In 2018 the UK Government relaunched a national television advertisement aspart of the ‘Keep Antibiotics Working’ campaign which aimed to raise awareness of antibioticresistance and reduce public demand for antibiotics. This study evaluates what role theframing of antibiotic resistance in the advertisement played in increasing publicunderstanding of antibiotic resistance and motivating behaviour change. The study isgrounded in behaviour change and health communication theory from the field ofCommunication for Development, and health and social psychology theory, reflecting theneed for multidisciplinary approaches to addressing antibiotic resistance. A textual analysisidentified how the issue was framed in the advertisement and surveys and interviews wereconducted with members of the target audience groups to analyse what effect theadvertisement had on their understanding of, and attitude towards antibiotic resistance. The findings show that the framing of antibiotic resistance in the TV advertisement led to anincrease in misunderstandings of what becomes resistant to antibiotics. The advertisementwas helpful in highlighting the vulnerability of antibiotics and for creating a new social normaround being a responsible antibiotic user, however was interpreted as childish byparticipants. It did not communicate the severity of antibiotic resistance or specific risk ofantibiotic overuse to the audience, or accurately reflect the audience’s existing knowledge ofantibiotic resistance and current behaviours. As the severity of antibiotic resistance was notconveyed, the advertisement did not motivate a change in antibiotic seeking behaviours orattitude amongst the majority of participants. The findings did highlight knowledge gapsamongst study participants including the importance of completing a course of antibiotics asprescribed, and that it is the bacteria itself, not the person, that develops resistance, andhopes this research can inform the development of future campaigns.

Negotiating Hope and Honesty: A Rhetorical Criticism of Young Adult Dystopian Fiction

Reber, Lauren Lewis 11 March 2005 (has links) (PDF)
Young adult dystopian fictions follow the patterns established by the classic adult dystopias such as George Orwell's 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, but not completely. Young adult dystopias tend to end happily, a departure from the nightmarish ends of Winston Smith and John Savage. Young adult authors resist hopelessness, even if the fictional world demands it. Using a rhetorical approach established by Wayne Booth in The Rhetoric of Fiction and The Company We Keep, this thesis traces the reasons for the inclusion of hope and the strategies by which hope is created and maintained. Booth's rhetorical approach recognizes that a narrative is a relational act. At issue in this study is the consideration of what follows from viewing a narrative as a dynamic exchange between text, author and reader. Through a focus on rhetoric as identification, the responsibilities of both the author and the reader to a text are identified and discussed. Three young adult novels, A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, The Giver by Lois Lowry and Feed by M.T. Anderson will be analyzed as case studies. Together the analysis of these novels reveals that storytelling is an act of forging identifications and forming alliances. The reader becomes more than just a spectator of the author's rhetoric; the reader is a fully involved member of the interpretive and evaluative process.

Longevidade de restaurações em dentes decíduos submetidos à remoção parcial de tecido cariado e fatores associados ao insucesso : estudo retrospectivo / Longevity of primary teeth restorations undergoing partial caries removal and factors associated with failure : retrospective study approaching daily clinical life

Concha Melgar, Ximena January 2015 (has links)
Objective: to assess the longevity of direct adhesive restorations undergoing partial caries removal (PCR) in primary teeth and associated factors for failure, approaching the results to a daily clinical life. Methods: Retrospective analytical observational study which included 284 posterior and anterior primary teeth direct adhesive restorations that had been treated with PCR of 88 children with high caries experience. The teeth had clinical and radiographic follow-up through the information registered in the clinical records of the patients. In addition, factors potentially associated with treatment failure were investigated, such as age, gender, type of tooth involved, number of surfaces restored, type of capping material and restorative material used, visible plaque (VPI) and gingival bleeding indexes (GBI). Kaplan-Meier estimate and Log-Rank test were used to analyze the longevity of restorations and multivariate Cox´s regression model with shared frailty to evaluate the factors that could be related to treatment failure (p<0.05). Results: A clinical and radiographic success rate of the sample was 76% and an annual failure rate was estimated in 20% over 36 months. Only visible plaque index (p=0.014) and type of teeth, anterior or posterior (p<0.001) had a significant influence on the restorative failure. Conclusion:Adhesive restorations undergoing PCR in primary teeth in an environment that simulates a daily clinical life demonstrate good results, particularly in posterior teeth. However, the biofilm accumulation on the dental surfaces affects the longevity of them.
