Kubakrisen : En tidningsstudie om svenska morgontidningars rapportering kring krisen / The Cuban Missile Crisis : A media study of Swedish morning papers reporting about the crisis

Gustavsson, Martin January 2015 (has links)
Abstract Kubakrisen; En tidningsstudie om svenska morgontidningars rapportering kring krisen The Cuban Missile Crisis; A media study of Swedish morning papers reporting about the crisis   The purpose of the survey is to illustrate how four Swedish newspapers, Svenska Dagbladet, Göteborgs Handels- och Sjöfartstidning, Dagen and Ny Dag reports about the Cuban missile crisis based on the questions. The survey highlights what distinguishes the morning papers and by how they take the position of the ship blockade against Cuba that United States issued and what position they take on who to blame in the conflict, but also how leaders Khrushchev, Kennedy and Castro portrayed. The study is based on the basis of a newspaper study and theory of priming serves as an instrument for the collection of materials.   The survey results show in the first issue of how the papers stand to US ship blockade, which SvD endorses, while GHT and Ny Dag condemns it and Dagen stand in the middle without any real position. Previous studies treated SvD stance during the Cold War, shows that during the Vietnam War in 1965 SvD was very critical of the USA and their involvement. In this study, regarding the Cuban missile crisis, SvD are most clearly pro-US while Ny Dag accuse and highlights strong criticism of the United States.   As for Chrusjtjov, Kennedy and Castro, the survey shows that three out of four newspapers writes about a surprised Chrusjtjov, who had gone too far and a Kennedy who are determined and implacable. The fourth paper, Ny Dag portrays a Chrusjtjov that the rational one in the crisis while it is very critical of Kennedy and call him a hypocrite. However, all the four papers agree that Castro's role in the crisis was minimal or nonexistent.

Shuttle, a press guide to the John F. Kennedy Space Center / Press guide to the John F. Kennedy Space Center.

Sanders, Douglas K. January 1985 (has links)
"Shuttle" presents a text' with maps and color photographs, suitable for publication, to inform members of the news media uninformed with space shuttle flights. Because of the voluminous press materials for shuttle missions submitted by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, this creative project attempted to compile information as to the most relevant topics of space shuttle flights obtained from official NASA publications, interviews, transcripts and from veteran space center reporters. Since the author has photographed and covered six Orbiter missions for newspapers and radio, personal observations in this creative project explain a "behind-the-scenes” of varying practical experience at the John F. Kennedy Space Center.NASA has four space shuttles--Columbia, Challenger, Discovery and Atlantis. From that combined "space pool" at least 400 manned missions are planned, some more ambitious than others. But each of the four Orbiters will require relevant information on the part of media representatives at Kennedy, especially those at the space center for the very first time. "Shuttle" is intended to help meet those news responsibilities.

Identification and functional characterization of a new enzyme involved in cardiolipin remodeling

Bradley, Ryan 06 June 2015 (has links)
The human genome project has allowed for the rapid identification of a large number of protein families based on similarities in their genetic sequences. In the present study, I report the functional characterization of a 44 kDa protein that functions in cardiolipin synthesis and remodeling. Although it is present in most tissues, it is abundant in multiple brain regions including olfactory bulbs, hippocampus, cerebellum, cortex, and brain stem, and is detectable in both primary neurons and glial cells. In assays performed in vitro, this protein significantly increased the incorporation of [14C]oleoyl-CoA into phosphatidylinositol and CL using either lysophosphatidylinositol, or monolysocardiolipin or dilysocardiolipin as acyl acceptors, respectively. This protein did not display significant acyltransferase activity with a number of other lysophospholipid acyl acceptors. Overexpressing this enzyme in HEK-293 cells increased total CL content, but did not significantly affect levels of other glycerophospholipids. Analysis of the fatty acyl profile of CL from cells overexpressing this protein indicated increased total saturated fatty acids, particularly stearate, palmitate, and myristate, and increased levels of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids α-linoleic acid (18:3n-3), eicosatrienoic acid (20:3n-3), and eicosapentanoic acid (20:5n-3). In accordance with its observed role in CL remodeling, subcellular localization of this protein was predominately mitochondrial. This protein is also regulated during embryogenesis, and in varying metabolic states.

Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye : For Chorus and Orchestra

Salicco, Betty Lou Everett, 1925- 12 1900 (has links)
This composition is based off the poem of the same name by Richard Sale. No particular harmonic plan was envisioned for Parts I, II and IV, because it was necessary for the harmonic scheme to be as fluid as the poetry. If the ideas of the text were similar some attempt was made to use a similar or modified melodic line or harmonic scheme. The structure of the text became the structure of the work. The motivating factor is the text, hence the many meter changes in order to keep pace with the poetry.
