An integrated analog controller for signal based A/D conversion

Chen, Hsin-Yu 11 August 2008 (has links)
Abstract: This thesis is concerned with the acquisition of body signals using a sampling system. A typical application is the recording of the electrocardiogram (ECG). It is proposed to sample the input signal at different rates, depending on the momentary signal content. If the input signal has large voltage variation, it is sampled at a high rate. During periods of small variation, the signal is sampled at a lower frequency to save both memory and power. An analog controller to control the clock rate is proposed and implemented. The analog controller decides the sample frequency (high rate or low rate) depending on the input signal. The analysis of the proposed system is presented in this thesis. Furthermore, a working prototype is implemented using discrete components on a PCB. The measured results show a significant reduction in the average sample frequency and data rate of 50% and 35%, respectively. Finally, the critical analog circuit blocks of the system suitable for integration on chip are proposed and implemented in a 0.35£gm CMOS process. Measured results are reported to confirm the functionality of the blocks.

Project-Group ESRF-Beamline (ROBL-CRG), Bi-Annual Report 1999/2000

Matz, W. 31 March 2010 (has links) (PDF)
The second report from the Project-Group ESRF-Beamline of the Forschungszentrum Rossendorf covers the period from July 1999 until December 2000. The ROssendorf BeamLine (ROBL) at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France performed quite well during this time. In the beamtime used by the FZR and collaborating institutes 44 scheduled experiments were performed, while in the ESRF scheduled beamtime 12 experiments. Additionally, a distinct amount of beamtime was devoted to in-house research of the FZR and methodical experiments. Since February 2000 ROBL is part of the European Commission's programme "Access to Research Infrastructure" which supports user groups from member and associated states of the EU during experiments at ROBL. In the year 2000 ROBL hosted 6 groups for experiments. The report is organised in three main parts. The first part contains extended contributions on results obtained at ROBL. The second part gives an overview about the scheduled experiments, publications, guests having visited ROBL with support of the EC, and some other information. Finally, the third part collects the experimental reports of the user groups received.

Subgrid-scale modelling for large-eddy simulation invluding scalar mixing in rotating turbulent shear flows

Marstorp, Linus January 2006 (has links)

The aim of the present study is to develop subgrid-scale models that are relevant for complex flows and combustion. A stochastic model based on a stochastic Smagorinsky constant with adjustable variance and time scale is proposed. The stochastic model is shown to provide for backscatter of both kinetic energy and scalar variance without causing numerical instabilities. A new subgrid-scale scalar flux model is developed using the same kind of methodology that leads to the explicit algebraic scalar flux model, EASFM, for RANS. The new model predicts the anisotropy of the subgrid-scales in a more realistic way than the eddy diffusion model. Both new models were tested in rotating homogeneous shear flow with a passive scalar. Rogallo’s method of moving the frame with the mean flow to enable periodic boundary conditions was used to simulate homogeneous shear flow.
