A pesquisa, numa abordagem qualitativa, tenta interpretar a associação existente entre seleção lexical, produto anunciado e destinatário. Para isso, investiga-se, a partir do título e da nomeação do produto, de que modo o emissor, fazendo uso da seleção lexical, é capaz de engendrar uma figura idealizada do destinatário e simultaneamente criar uma representação positiva do produto. O corpus, constituído de dez anúncios classificados de venda de imóveis novos, denominados anúncios classificados destacados, foram coletados aos domingos no Jornal do Commercio e no Diário de Pernambuco, entre 2003 e 2004. Na investigação constatou-se que a seleção lexical está diretamente relacionada à classe socioeconômica do destinatário e reflete-lhe os anseios, o estilo de vida e os valores ideologicamente consagrados pela classe social a que ele pertence. Sendo assim, a escolha do léxico exerce papel decisivo na definição da estratégia persuasiva dessas publicidades. Isso nos levou a refletir sobre a necessidade de dotar os usuários da língua de instrumentos que possibilitem, a partir do léxico, uma leitura mais crítica desses textos

Lexical Gaps Abstract in English The general assumption among most language users is that every single concept in our world can be labeled by a proper lexical item, i.e. there is a name for all of the physical or abstract entities we live with and situations we experience. It has been suggested by several studies, and we will concentrate on these, that there are usually several conceptual structures in the studied languages which are in fact not lexicalized. This linguistic phenomenon is called a lexical gap, and there is more than one type of lexical gap observable in languages. Recent studies of the occurrence of a lexical gap show various approaches to the subject with various results. The study of lexical gaps can be approached from the point of view of lexical fields, as suggested by Alan Cruse and Adrienne Lehrer among others. In this approach different fields: taxonomies, hierarchies, clusters, grids, linear structures and matrixes help to organize the lexicon into conceptual structures where the missing structural part is then best observable and studied with relation to the other units in the field. Os documentos oficiais e a concretização das propostas no livro didático analisado abordam a ambiguidade lexical como algo a ser evitado e corrigido através de estratégias de desambiguação, ignorando a importância da natureza polissêmica da língua como recurso expressivo na comunicação cotidiana e como instrumento fundamental do humor, especialmente as variantes de humor popular e infantil. O presente trabalho busca abordar a ambiguidade lexical, polissemia e homonímia, no gênero tirinha cômica, texto multimodal e humorístico, visando observar a eficácia da proposta de leitura e produção como exercício de contextualização, levando os alunos a observarem, explicarem e produzirem texto, utilizando-se dos diversos significados possíveis das palavras em uso, em situação concreta de enunciação. A proposta se dá dentro do conceito de multimodalidade, trabalhando a ambiguidade lexical e o letramento visual, objetivando que o aluno não apenas observe e compreenda as tirinhas apresentadas, mas também que produza a sua própria, compondo o texto com os elementos verbal e visual. As atividades foram divididas em dez passos: pesquisa e compartilhamento de HQs, atividade diagnóstica, análise da ambiguidade lexical em tirinha cômica no livro didático, jogo digital Quem ri seus males espanta Piadas, consulta às diferentes acepções no dicionário, escrita do glossário de unidades lexicais polissêmicas ou homônimas, elaboração do roteiro da tirinha, autoavaliação, produção final de uma tirinha cômica e apreciação dos trabalhos das turmas. / The analised official papers and textbook proposals approach lexical ambiguity as something to be avoided and correct through desambiguation strategies, ignoring the importance of the polissemic nature of language as an expressive resource of the language in daily communication and as a fundamental tool of comedy and humor, especially popular and childrens jokes and puns. This paper aims to approach lexical ambiguity, polissemy and homonyms, within the comic strip genre, which is a multimodal and comic text genre, with the objetive of observing how effective this proposal of reading and writing can be to help students comprehend, learn and explain lexical ambiguity, by using a word in multiple possible meanings in the comic strip, in concrete enunciation. This proposal uses multimodality, by combining lexical ambiguity and visual litteracy, aiming to enable the student not only to observe and understand the comic strips presented, but also to produce their own by using verbal and visual components. The sequence is divided in ten steps: research and sharing comics, diagnostic evaluation, lexical ambiguity in the textbook, digital game Quem ri seus males espanta Piadas, searching for different meanings of words in the dictionary, writing a glossary of polissemic unities, production of a scratch comic, self evaluation, final production and appreciation of the classes works.

No estudo fonológico experimental descrito nesta dissertação, buscamos testar a capacidade dos falantes de português de reconhecerem as palavras a partir de fragmentos iniciais com informações baseadas no acento lexical. Para tanto, realizamos um teste em que palavras segmentadas da língua portuguesa eram apresentadas aos sujeitos os quais deveriam escolher entre palavras pertencentes a três padrões acentuais - tônica/átona, átona/tônica, átona/átona - a qual julgavam pertencer a seqüência de som ouvida. Os resultados do teste revelaram que os sujeitos são capazes de reconhecer uma palavra com base em seus segmentos iniciais e informações sobre o acento lexical. O padrão átona/átona, nomeado PP, apresentou o maior índice de julgamentos errados, 46%, dos quais, a maioria, favorece o padrão átona/tônica. Os parâmetros acústicos que marcam o português foram observados e não apresentaram justificativa para os erros de PP, o que nos leva a concluir que a escolha dos sujeitos seja norteada pelo padrão acentual do português, o paroxítono. / In the experimental phonological research described in this dissertation, we aimed at testing the Portuguese speakers\' ability to recognize words from its initial fragments with information based on the lexical stress. Considering this goal, we \"administered\" a test in which segmented words from Portuguese language were presented to the subjects who had to choose it among three initial stressed patterns - stressed/unstressed, unstressed/stressed, unstressed/unstressed. The choice was done according to the judgment of the sequence of sounds heard by the subjects. The test results revealed that the subjects are able to recognize a word on the basis of its initial segments and information about the lexical stress. The pattern unstressed/unstressed, named PP, presented a higher index of amiss judgment, 46%, the greatest part of the erroneous PP judgment favors the pattern unstressed/stressed. The acoustic parameters that represents Portuguese stress were observed and did not present justification for the errors of PP. Therefore, we could conclude that the choices made by the subjects were leaded by the Portuguese stressed pattern, the paroxítono.

Lexical Conceptual Structure and Generation in Machine Translation

This report introduces an implemented scheme for generating target- language sentences using a compositional representation of meaning called lexical conceptual structure. Lexical conceptual structure facilitates two crucial operations associated with generation: lexical selection and syntactic realization. The compositional nature of the representation is particularly valuable for these two operations when semantically equivalent source-and-target-language words and phrases are structurally or thematically divergent. To determine the correct lexical items and syntactic realization associated with the surface form in such cases, the underlying lexical-semantic forms are systematically mapped to the target-language syntactic structures. The model described constitutes a lexical-semantic extension to UNITRAN.
