The thesis is devoted to the understanding and comprehensive description of cognitive features, semantic scope and ways of representing the concept of “taina” (“secret”) in the Russian linguistic picture of the world. The research material consisted of 190 lexical units with the meaning of secret in the meaning of the word, extracted from explanatory, phraseological, semantic, synonymic and antonymic dictionaries of the Russian language; 590 extended contexts presented in the National Corpus of the Russian Language; 149 associates obtained during a psycholinguistic experiment. The first chapter of the thesis examines the theoretical principles and conceptual framework of the research. It reveals the key concepts of “linguistic picture of the world”, “concept” and “conceptual sphere”, and describes the methods of conceptual analysis and associative experiment. The second chapter examines the semantic structure of the concept of “Secret”, its cognitive features and the semantic scope of the concept. The analysis of the discursive variation of lexemes, which are the basic representatives of the concept of “Secret”, is carried out on the basis of data collected in the National Corpus of the Russian Language. The semantic content of the concept is checked based on the results obtained during the associative chain experiment. The research materials can be used in teaching humanities disciplines (“Cognitive Linguistics”, “Linguoculturology”), as well as in creating textbooks, conceptual dictionaries or linguistic and cultural thesauruses. The appendix provides an illustration of the structure of the concept of “Secret”.

Konceptualizace života v českých populárních písních (Příspěvek ke studiu jazykového obrazu světa) / Conceptualization of Life in the Czech Popular Lyrics (Contribution to the Study of the Linguistic Picture of the World)Janovská, Zuzana January 2015 (has links)
This thesis examines the conceptualization of life in the lyrics of Czech popular songs of 1960s. The thesis derives theoretically and methodologically from cognitively and culturally-based approaches to language, especially from the theory of conceptual metaphor and metonymy (e. g. Lakoff and Johnson) and the concept of language as a picture of the world (school of Lublin). At first the thesis analyses the semantics of lexeme life. The analysis is based on the data from dictionaries and it reaches the basics of the linguistic picture of life as it is anchored in common language. Simultaneously the thesis works with the picture of life (in contrast with death) how it is served in the literature about Czech folk culture. The main part of this study consists of almost a hundred interpretations of lyrics from the examined period, which depict human life in its various stages and forms (through oppositions of life - death, youth - old age, etc.). The analysis follows relevant semantic elements which participate on its conceptualization. The thesis describes systematically and in detail particularly metaphors (structural, ontological and orientational), metonymy, and also the image schemes which are associated with life (scheme of JOURNEY, CYCLE). The attention is paid to their specific language...

Osvojovování cizího jazyka (angličtiny) na základě mateřského jazyka (češtiny) - souvislosti s teorií dětského jazykového obrazu světa / Second language acquisition (English) based on mother tongue (Czech) - connections to the theory of children's language picture of the worldLopatová, Lucie January 2012 (has links)
This thesis engages in the language acquistion of the mother tongue (czech) and the second language (English) in preschool age and discribes the development of child language competence in both languages based on available theories, results of illustrative research and one-year observation in kindergarten with bilingual education program. In the beginning, there are defined theories which engaged in past and engage today (from 20th century till the present day) in study of language acquisition. In addition of these theories we focus factors which influence on the language development of children and consideration even theory of children's linguistic picture of the world. We compare the development of language competence (phonetic-phonological, semantic, grammatical, communication, pragmatic and vocabulary) in first language (czech) which are defined in agreement with available theories with empirical discoveries which indicate the development of those competence in second language (English) and we discribe partial methodological processes.

Koncept čtyř ročních období v českém jazyce / Concept of the four seasons in Czech languagePevná, Lucie January 2012 (has links)
The diploma thesis explores the four seasons from the view point of the linguistic picture of the world theory. The etholinguistic approach is applied in the thesis - attention is paid to the Czech-specific perception of reality especially focused on the weather and the changes of the nature in the course of the four seasons. Human perception of the change is based upon the senses - the sense of hearing, the sense of smell, and touch and the eyesight. Each season is unique. The seasons can be differentiated by their season specific stereotypes, season prototypes, and connotations. On the linguistic pictures of each season collocations are built, from which new lexical items originate, describing the season as such. Due to anthropocentrism we perceive individual astronomical and meteorological issues as personified items to which we ascribe human behaviour and human qualities. The motto of the thesis says: "I will not do the spring sowing next year. " The motto denotes the interaction of two conceptual schemata (the scheme of a cycle and the scheme of a journey) realizing the fact that the natural cycle corresponds in our mental representation with the phases of human life. The difference between the concepts is that man always reaches the terminal point of his journey unlike the nature constantly...

This dissertation represents the first extensive and updated research of the post-Soviet linguistic studies dedicated to Russkaja Jazykovaja Kartina Mira. These studies demonstrate the existence of specific language ideas through a semantic analysis of the keywords of the Russian language. As a consequence, these studies also display a perspective on the world vehiculated by the Russian language. The research opens with an investigation of the historical and cultural context that lead to RJaKM’s linguistic disposition and it shows the existing link between analysis on RJaKM and the development of the studies on lexical semantics. It also shows how western linguistics contributed to the evolution of Soviet linguistics.
After mentioning the most authoritative and representative experts on RJaKM, such as Anna Wierzkicka’s School and the Moscow Semantic School for the Integrated Description of Language and Systematic Lexicography, this dissertation systematically and comparatively considers the theoretical principles at the base of both schools linguistic ideas and methods of semantic analysis, applying them to the Russian word ‘smirenie,’ and consequently evaluating their effectiveness. As an outcome, this research presents some possible applications of RJaKM and it indicates some innovative linguistic and lexicographic tools which were either employed or even produced at the bosom of RJaKM studies and are especially useful for the teaching of the Russian language and linguistics.
In conclusion, this dissertation offers a final evaluation of the studied phenomena, defining new research paths in the fields of linguistics and cultural analysis.

Smrt, posmrtný život a umírání v jazykovém obrazu světa žáků českých a krajanských základních a středních škol / The Linguistic Picture of Death, Afterlife and Dying in Primary and Secondary School PupilsWildová, Zuzana January 2019 (has links)
The dissertation The Linguistic Picture of Death, Afterlife and Dying in Primary and Secondary School Pupils is devoted to the reconstruction of the linguistic picture of death in these groups of pupils, its mutual comparison and its comparison with the developed psychological concept of death. Furthermore, it describes how the taboo of this topic manifests itself in the pupils' linguistic picture of death and which modifications of the linguistic picture of the world are shown in the linguistic picture of death among pupils. In the first part, the dissertation deals with the concept of death in language and culture, and thus also with the linguistic and socio-cultural taboo of this phenomenon. We deal with the development of the conception of death in history and also the development of the concept of death of children and youth. The theoretical frame for this work is based on the methods of cognitive linguistics and its approach to linguistic research. We characterize this linguistic approach, its methods and the main representatives in the next part of the work. We use cognitive linguist methods not only for processing but also for collecting language data. In the third part, we analyze system, text and empirical language data. Textual data are derived from texts of intentional literature for...

Teorie rámců a její edukační možnosti / Theory of Frames and its Educational PossibilitiesHuleja, Jan January 2018 (has links)
Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities Jan Huleja Czech Language Departement PhDr. Ladislav Janovec, Ph.D. Abstract The dissertation Theory of Frames and its Educational Possibilities consists of a theoretical, practical and didactic chapter. The theme of the first chapter is the Theory of Frames that includes a variety of concepts and theoretical views across different humanities and social disciplines that discuss how individuals, groups and societies perceive and organize reality and how they communicate about it. In the next part of the dissertation the application Frames of Ostrava in the Czech Linguistic Picture of the World demonstrates the potential of the Theory of Frames for cultural-linguistic and discourse analyzes. Barvy v české a ruské frazeologii (Srovnávací analýza sémantiky pojmenování barev na základě korpusových dat a frazeologických slovníků) / Colours in Phraseology of Czech and Russian (Comparative Analysis of Colour Terms Semantics on the basis of Linguistic Corpora and Phraseological Dictionaries)Timoshchenko, Tatiana January 2020 (has links)
This thesis deals with basic colour terms (in the conception of B. Berlin and P. Kay) in Czech and Russian idioms. The theoretical framework applied in this research incorporates the main tenets of cognitive semantics (the language is anthropocentric, it is interrelated with the mind, the lexical meaning is motivated by bodily experience of speakers, the categorization as a crucial way of reality interpretation). According to it the semantics of colour terms are presented as a structured mental category that consists of individual concepts (meanings), which are inter- linked with one another. The core of this thesis presents the analysis of the Czech and Russian dictionaries and the corpus data, in terms of which the prototypes of each colour term are revealed and visual schemes of their metaphorical and metonymic meaning extension are charted. The findings lead to designate the similarities and the differences in the meaning of studied terms, in particular to determinate some features, which are peculiar for linguistic worldview of Czech and Russian.

Jazykový obraz nohy/nohou v češtině / The linguistic picture of the leg/legs in CzechČurdová, Veronika January 2011 (has links)
The thesis is a contribution to the study of designations of the human body in the Czech language and is based on contemporary theories and methods of cognitive and cultural approaches to language. It focuses on that part of reality which is called noha / nohy by members of Czech linguistic community. First, two terminological perspectives from which the leg / legs can be seen were comapared: the natural perspective of the linguistic picture of the world and the scientific medical perspective. The medical perspective tends to categorize parts of the body very precisely, it also analyses deep structures of the leg / legs. In contrast the natural perspectives only the surface of the leg / legs and distinguishes those categories which are significant for humans and their existence in the world. In the main chapter we attempt to define the meaning of the Czech noha / nohy and of parts of the leg / legs by analysing definitions in Czech monolingual dictionaries, etymology of words, derived words and compounds, synonyms and especially phraseology. Based on the analysis of these sources we determined the systemic connotations and connected semantic profiles. We set down four semantic profiles: 1) appearance of leg / legs; 2) leg /legs as a part of the human body; 3) leg / legs as a means of movement...
