Kompaktní město - aneb co nového se může ještě dít v Brně mezi nádražími / Compact City - or what new is able to yet be done in Brno among railway stations

Stuchlík, Aleš January 2010 (has links)
Project deals with the Brno main railway station and a large area behind this station, including the broader context of a railway junction in Brno and the suburban area. Station is located in the user-friendly and operationally advantageous location in the city center. „Zanádraží“, from the city center point of view, remains behind the station, but it isn`t the city inside periphery anymore. Proximity to city center, train and bus station and the river „Svratka“ give uniquely positioned for the generation of attractive neighborhoods. Author rejects functionalist arrangement of cities and vertical segregation of communications. The new city district is formed by use traditional urban repertoire: streets, squares and waterfronts defined by closed block development. The emphasis is on functional public transportation system, favorable conditions for pedestrian movement and the sustainability of private transport, which is providing a facility for ensuring the service areas, but not for undirected growth threatening urban environment.

Development of an H-Alpha Index for the Detection of PMS Candidates in Young Open Clusters

Evanko, Liberty Rae 06 March 2007 (has links) (PDF)
One phase of formation of medium- and low-mass stars is the optically visible phase known as the pre-main-sequence or PMS phase. In order to further the understanding of this phase, more of these PMS objects need to be identified and classified. Previous techniques have used photometry to identify possible PMS objects by their characteristic Hα emission. Once identified these objects can be studied spectroscopically yielding complete PMS classification. This study develops a method to locate these emission objects that overcomes two limitations of previous techniques. The first limitation is the need for the creation of reddening maps. It is eliminated by the creation of a reddening free Hα wide/narrow index for the selection of emission objects. The second limitation is the requirement of the creation of mosaics to study the entire region of interest. This limitation is overcome by the construction of a wide-angle observation facility. This makes it possible to obtain the entire region of interest in a single frame. Once tested to ensure the validity of the method, the wide-angle Hα wide/narrow procedure is applied to several young open clusters. The development of the index and the results of its application to the clusters are presented. Also, an examination into how the results can be used to address some of the questions currently surrounding the PMS is included. Finally, a guideline for the implementation of the method into future studies is discussed.

Internal Capital Markets And Bank Relationship - Evidence From Japanese Corporate Spin-offs.Internal Capital Markets, Investment

Han, Seung 01 January 2005 (has links)
This dissertation consists of two studies related to internal capital markets and bank relationship using Japanese corporate spin-offs. The first study analyzes the relation between internal capital markets and banks by examining 137 Japanese corporate spin-offs created between the years 2001 and 2003 (since the establishment of new spin-offs law in 2001). In a univariate analysis, we find significant positive average cumulative abnormal returns around the announcements, market-adjusted excess returns after the spin-offs, an increase of the Herfindahl index, and a reduction in the diversification discount after the spin-offs. In a cross-sectional analysis, we find that bank-related governance variables such as the keiretsu-affiliation indicator, bank loan to total asset ratio, main bank ownership, and indicator variable of the existence of a bank-appointed director on the board indicator variables are significantly positively related to cumulative average abnormal returns around the announcements, market-adjusted excess returns after the spin-offs, an increase in focus of firms in terms of the Herfindahl index, and a reduction in the diversification discount. Therefore, we conclude that there is a significant relationship between internal capital markets and banks in Japan; after the internal capital market reorganization through spin-offs the closer relationship with banks creates shareholder wealth and increases the focus of firms. This paper is now co-authored with Professor Yoon K. Choi. The second study analyzes the investment policy changes in internal capital markets and the effect of banks' monitoring on the investment changes using Japanese corporate spin-offs, including merger-facilitated spin-offs within conglomerates. We find that investment sensitivity increases significantly after internal restructuring through spin-offs, consistent with Gertner et al. (2002). Furthermore, our results show that bank-related spin-offs' investments are more sensitive to investment opportunities, Tobin's Q, after being spun off. This suggests that the efficiency of Japanese internal capital markets has increased through spin-offs after the financial deregulation in 2001. We conclude that banks seem to play significant monitoring roles in internal capital markets to increase the investment efficiency after spin-offs. This paper is now co-authored with Professor Yoon K. Choi.

Det talas om bilder : Användning av passiva verbformer hos förskolebarn och vuxna vid berättande på svenska till bildmaterialet Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives (MAIN).

Wärn-Ekarna, Johanna January 2019 (has links)
The use of passive constructions by Swedish children has never been systematically investigated before. The main purpose of this study is to investigate Swedish-speaking children’s use of passive forms in narratives elicited using the Multilingual AssessmentInstrument for Narratives (MAIN). The participants were divided into three main categories based on age and linguistic background: 72 monolingual Swedish-speaking children aged between 4-6 years, 20 monolingual Swedish-speaking adults, and 100 multilingual Swedish-Turkish-speaking children aged between 4-7 years who are growing up in Sweden. The participants were recruited through the project BiLI-TAS VR2013-1309 ”Språkstörning eller typisk språkutveckling?” at Uppsala university. The observed passive constructions were categorized and analyzed in quantity and quality in relation to age and linguistic background. The results showed a difference in quantity of passive constructions between children and adults, as well as between monolingual and multilingual peers. The total occurrence for passives was 16 among monolingual children, 11 among monolingual adults, and 10 among multilingual children. In general, younger children and multilingual participants produced fewer passives than adults and older monolingual children, although 6- and 7-year old multilingual children produced more passives than the 4- and 5-year old monolingual children. A few multilingual children were also produced passive constructions in active contexts, which did not occur among the monolingual participants. The large number of deponent verbs (which are morphologically but not functionally equivalent to passives) shows that children are familiar with the structure of the morphologic passive. The choice between morphologic or periphrastic passive seems to be influenced by the context. More research needs to be done to increase our knowledge how the passive construction develops in Swedish.

A Chemical, Thermogravimetric and X-ray Study of Cancrinite

Chen , Shu-Meei 09 1900 (has links)
Cancrinite specimens from Ontario were studied. Chemical and thermogravimetric analyses were made. Non-Bragg reflections were observed in x-ray photographs. These reflections have the same symmetry as the main lattice reflections, but the intensities, abundance and the relative positions of them with respect to the main lattice reflections are different from one specimen to another. In the heated specimens, the superstructure reflections decrease in intensities, shift in position and are streaked in a direction parallel to the a*-axis on the a* c* reciprocal lattice plane. Phase changes in the heated cancrinites show that the sodalite group of minerals occur as transitional phases in the cancrinite break down reactions. It is shown that the non-Bragg reflections are very similar to the main lattice reflections. There is a probable relation between the non-Bragg reflections in cancrinite and the sodalite group of minerals. / Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)

The Preparation, Multinuclear Magnetic Resonance and Solid-State Investigation of Some Classically Bonded Anions of the Heavy Main-Group Elements Derived from Zintl Phases

Devereux, Lesley Ann 09 1900 (has links)

The synthesis and X-ray crystallographic determination of solid derivatives of homo- and heteropolyatomic anions derived from Zintl phases has generally yielded the least soluble of the ions present in solution. Many other species present in these solutions have remained unidentified until recently when considerable effort directed towards the investigation of the solution chemistries of Zintl anions has been put forth.

The present work is mainly concerned with the characterization of new Zintl anions in solution using multinuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy as the primary investigative tool. These studies include (1) the tetrahedral SnCh4^4- (Ch = selenium and/or tellurium), (2) the dimer of SnSe3^2-, Sn2Se6^4-, (3) several interesting but, as-of-yet, unidentified species present in solutions derived from ternary Na/Sn/Te alloys and present in the reaction of Sn(II) Cl2 with Te2^2-, and (4) a set of possible multi-thallium-tellurium species. Relevant chemical shifts and nuclear spin-spin coupling constants are reported and trends discussed.

119Sn Mössbauer investigations of all tin-containing species is also presented as is a brief discussion of the X-ray crystallographically determined polytelluride, Te4^2-.
/ Thesis / Master of Science (MSc)
