Analýza struktury trhu práce: MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER / Labor Market Structure Analysis: MAJОR LEAGUE SОCCER

Hrdina, Martin January 2013 (has links)
This thesis deals with the determination of the player labour market for the American professional sports league Major League Soccer (MLS). In the theoretical part I focus on the description of the league's development along with the salary politics rules. Using the two stages least square method in the empirical part I then provide the model for the estimation of player's marginal productivity (MRP). In the first step I explain the correlation between the percentages of obtained points by teams with player statistics. In the second step I examine the influence of this variable along with other factors on team's revenues from attendance. Afterwards I compare the calculated player's MRP with their salaries and also test some additional factors that might influence players' salaries. Using this model and also some other simple regressions I conclude that MLS labour market is a monopsony market structure. Besides I found out that forwarders market seems to be the closest part of the MLS labour market to the competitive market structure. In conclusion I discuss possible model's weaknesses, which turned out to be especially dependency of players on their co-players' on-field performance.

Minimální mzda v ekonomických souvislostech / Minimum wage in economic context

Návrat, Martin January 2013 (has links)
This thesis compares different theoretical principles concerning the relationship between minimum wages and unemployment. In the empirical part examines the impact of minimum wages on unemployment in the Czech Republic for the period 1994 - 2012. The results of the econometric analysis indicate that the minimum wage significantly affects unemployment. I conclude that a 1% increase in the real minimum wage compared to the previous year will result in approximately a 0.17% increase in the unemployment rate for workers with at most primary education compared to the previous year and approximately 0.07% increase in the unemployment rate of men compared to previous year. Based on the extension of the basic models is rejected that the minimum wage statistically negatively influenced overall unemployment, unemployment of women and unemployment of workers under 25 years.

Mzdové genderové nerovnosti na příkladu trhu práce v USA / Analysis of the Gender Pay Gap on the Example of the US Labor Market

Suchý, Dobromil January 2014 (has links)
This thesis deals with the analysis of gender wage inequality on the example of the US labor market. The theoretical part presents theories explaining gender differences. The methodological part describes the data source and method of selection of respondents for further analysis. There are also constructed econometric models used in other parts of the work. In the practical part are analyzed gender differences in selected fields and evaluated differences between socio-economic groups. The results of the analysis show that in all monitored sectors, married women reach higher incomes than single women, but it is not possible to confirm the hypothesis that the difference was greater in employments enabling home working or flexible working hours. On the contrary, the hypothesis, that it is more convenient for women to have small children in these more time-flexible jobs, is confirmed. However, it is not clear whether it is because of the nature of these fields or because of their profitability.

Minimální mzda v České republice a v Evropské unii. / The minimum wage in the Czech Republic and the European Union

Karhanová, Michala January 2015 (has links)
The thesis aims is to determine the impact of minimum wage on unemployment of men, women, and the overall unemployment rate in the Czech Republic and selected EU countries. Subsequently, the thesis will deal with the historical and current development of minimum wages in various EU countries and international documents which affect the formation of the minimum wage. The last part will be based on an econometric model determining whether a minimum wage, growth rate of GDP and the share of the minimum wage to the median wage influence the unemployment of men, women, and the overall unemployment rate in the period 1995 to 2014 the Czech Republic, Luxembourg and Hungary.

License to labour : a socio-institutional analysis of employment obstacles facing Vancouver’s foreign-trained engineers

Geddie, Katherine Paige 11 1900 (has links)
Many professionally trained immigrant applicants receive high marks in the selection process for their perceived value to the host Canadian society and economy. Upon arrival, however, many new immigrants find that employers and industry-regulated accreditation boards do not recognize their foreign degrees and work experience. In this thesis, I interview 25 underemployed or unemployed foreign-trained engineers in Vancouver to investigate the diversity of their experiences in the labour market. I focus on how they perceive the obstacles they are facing and how they are responding to these barriers in seeking employment. This thesis is situated in a growing body of literature that considers labour markets as complex, place-contingent, socially and institutionally embedded constructs. Using a "socio-institutionalist" approach, which refutes conventional neoclassical economics' theories of labour markets as free, self-equilibrating, and uninterrupted markets, enables me to compose, then put to work, a multilogical theoretical model that examines the ways in which various institutions control, shape, and govern access to professional engineering jobs in Vancouver. In particular, I draw upon theories of regulatory, social and cultural institutions in the labour market. I find that regulatory institutions, such as the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC), create licensing obstacles that are indeed profound for new immigrants. In addition, many recent immigrants are excluded from local social networks that diffuse information about professional job availabilities; assistance is provided through inclusive immigrant and ethnic networks, but this rarely leads to professional employment. Lastly, many newcomers perceive their cultural institutional affiliation to be wanting, and so pursue Canadian academic credentials in an attempt to gain entrance into the market. / Arts, Faculty of / Geography, Department of / Graduate
