Sahlin, Anders January 2017 (has links)
During the planning stages of new business start-ups in Leksand, it was decided that an archaeological survey of the area in question was to be performed in 2013. The reason for this was that in the 1980s findings of Stone Age character had been found in the clay field that once was there. In the 2013 survey, it was found that the area is a stone age settlement, dating back close to 9, 600 BP ( early mesolithic age). Stone age settlements are usually very close to rivers or lakes. For this reason, there arenormally no archaeological surveys of areas not adjacent to water. But this settlement was found on a clay field, 100 meters from the nearest water, Limsjön.The reason for this is that the water level at the time of the settlement's construction was higher in the ground than today. This is b ecause of the uplift of land that occurs in Sweden. The settlement, which was built close to 10,000 years ago was built when the water level was about 10 meters above todays water level at Limsjön. The purpose of this work is to produce maps showing where the whole Siljan shore line was at the time when the first people settled there. This will be done using information for the water surface position close to the settlement from 10,000 years ago to. The old shore line is several 10’s of kilometers long. To get more specific areas the maps also show suitable settlement areas based on the soil types that people have settled on during that time. These maps will then be used as a supportfor choosing areas where archaeological surveys might be of interest.

Research concerning the relationship between society and the environment in past times shows the relevance of interdisciplinary studies between Geography and Archeology. In this sense, a study of the Piracanjuba Archaeological Site, located in the Municipality of Piraju, SP, in the region of the Middle Paranapanema River, was carried out by the theoretical bias of Landscape Archeology. It is a Guarani litho-ceramic site. The area of the site is studied in order to understand the pattern of settlement and then submit it to the comparative examination with the other Guarani archaeological sites of the Middle Paranapanema. The environment was analyzed according to geosciences (geo-geology and geo-geology) and vertical (geohorizon) assumptions in order to approach the representation and mapping of the site in its relation with the characteristics of the physical-geographic complex of the area. For the systematization of the data, Geographic Information System (GIS) programs such as QGIS were used, as well as an assisted design program such as AutoCad and CorelDRAW, as well as the analysis of panoramic photographs, aerial photographs (digital stereoscopy) and satellite images. The results of this dissertation contribute to the work of analyzing the landscape in archaeological research, especially with regard to the Guarani Regional Occupation System in the Paranapanema River Valley, besides the discussion on Landscape Archeology by the geosystemic bias. Arqueologia da paisagem aplicada ao estudo dos sítios arqueológicos na bacia do rio Turvo-Grande, região norte do estado de São Paulo / Landscape archaeology applied to the study of archaeological sites in the Turvo-Grande river basin, northern region of the state of São Paulo

Pereira, David Lugli Turtera 05 April 2018 (has links)
This research presents some results of the work fulfilled with focus on the landscape archaeology in archeological sites located in the Turvo-Grande River Basin. Field procedures were initiated in 2011 and finalized in 2014, allowing us to evaluate the type and intensity of archaeological materials, their distribution in the landscape, the geoenvironmental aspects relevant to the past occupation and the formation processes in these records. The data collected in the field were compiled in cartographic language, which allowed to engender spatial information of the archaeological sites, furthermore to understand its possible relation with the local geoindicators. The collected archaeological materials were analyzed in the laboratory, raising important questions about its production, its use and its intrasite spatial. The archaeological sites worked within this research were correlated to the regional archaeological context. The multiscale and multidimensional analysis of this context allowed the identification of some socio-spatial patterns that helped to understand the process of dwelling and transforming the landscapes of the north of the state of São Paulo.

Les grands constructeurs précoloniaux du plateau du sud du Brésil : étude de paysages archéologiques à Bom Jesus, Rio Grande do Sul, Brésil / The great pre-colonial builders of the southern brazilian plateau: a study of the archaeological landscapes in Bom Jesus, Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil

Copé, Silvia Moehlecke January 2006 (has links)
The highlands in southern Brazil were settled around the beginning of our era by precolonial peoples who built large earth buildings on the ground in the form of small burial hills, earth deposits, walls, landfills, terraces, in addition to building underground and semiunderground structures. In order to get more information and better understand the way of life of these populations, the landscape archeology approach was used to make diggings in the set of buildings on site RS-AN-03 and on the archeological survey conducted at a pilot area of 1,500 Km² located in Bom Jesus in the southernmost Brazilian state. This approach, which views the landscape as an active player in human social actions, provided a new interpretative contribution to the archeology of Brazilian highlands, enabling the design of a territory behavior model based on the analyses performed within sites, across sites and at the regional level and a new narrative discourse on pre-colonial human settlements. This discourse, made from the realization of the expansion of araucaria forecast on a grassland landscape that took place together with the expansion and settlement of human groups around 1,500 BC shows evidence of a social-environmental dynamics at the araucaria plateau, a landscape anthropogenization. The high concentration of resources available and ensured all year round enabled the concentration of people who built permanent towns and larges villages and constituted complex hierarchized societies that kept their territories delimited and protected.
