Hydrogen ion-sensitive field effect transistor with sol-gel-derived La-modified lead titanate gate

Su, Jen-Fu 12 July 2002 (has links)
Hydrogen ion-sensitive field effect transistor with sol-gel-derived La-modified lead titanate gate Department of Electrical Engineering, National Sun Yat-Sen University *Jen-Fu Su **Ying-Chung Chen Abstract In this thesis the amorphous lead lanthanum titanate (Pb1-xLaxTi1-x/4O3, PLT) membrane has been prepared by sol-gel method as a novel pH-sensitive layer. The lead lanthanum titanate membrane was directly deposited on the SiO2(1000Å)/p-Si substrate by spin-on coating to form the PLT/SiO2/Si EIS structure. The C-V measurement was used for examining the fabrication parameters and sensing properties. Moreover, the PLT membrane was grown onto the SiO2 gate ISFET as the PLT/SiO2 gate ISFET. The electrical properties with the different parameter conditions can be obtained by the I-V measurement. Experimental results show that the fabrication parameters and characteristics of the PLT membrane are determined at the La-modified content about 3 mol% and the firing temperature of 400¢J via the EIS structure. There exhibits the pH response of about 44-52 mV/pH in the range of pH 2-12. Furthermore, the nonideal factors, such as drift of 0.1-0.3 mV/h, hysteresis of 2-13 mV and lifetime decay of about 72 mV/pH-day, can be also obtained via the I-V properties of the ISFET. Finally, the hardware architecture of pH measuring system has been built up. The system makes use of constant current and voltage bias technique to ensure that the variations of the output voltage can give directly the variations of pH value. For the purpose of achieving the function of data calibration and driving the liquid crystal display (LCD), the 8051 microprocessor is employed. Characterization of LaBr3(Ce) Detectors for Picosecond Lifetime Measurements

Michetti-Wilson, Julian 10 May 2013 (has links)
There has been a great deal of interest in the use of LaBr3 (Ce) detectors for fast timing measurements. Due to their excellent energy resolution, ≈ 3% at 1MeV, they offer an improved signal to background over BaF2 which has ≈ 9% energy resolution. Many groups are planning arrays of LaBr3 detectors. The 8π collaboration has recently acquired a small array of 6 2”x 2” cylindrical LaBr3 detectors to replace its BaF2 detectors. We have been investigating the effects of detector-to-detector scattering on timing resolution. We have further investigated the use of Compton-suppression shields with LaBr3 detectors. This will also be the first testing of the DANTE acquisition system in the 8π. A summary of the results of our optimization, scattering studies, and Compton-suppression tests will be presented.

Thermodynamics of 3+ metal cation containing systems

Lukacs, Michael James, University of Lethbridge. Faculty of Arts and Science January 2003 (has links)
Measurements of relative densities and relative massic heat capacities have been made for several aqueous rare earth chloride and perchlorate systems. Densities and relative massic heat capacities of acidified aqueous perchlorates of yttrium, ytterbium, dysprosium, and samarium as well as the chlorides of yttrium, ytterbium, dysprosium, samarium and gadolinium have been measured at the temperatures 288.15, 298.15, 313.5 and 328.15 K. Using the density and massic heat capacity data, apparent molar volumes and apparent molar heat capacities have been calculated. These data have been modeled using the Pitzer ion interaction approach as well as the Helgeson, Kirkham and Flowers equations of state. Apparent molar volumes and apparent molar heat capacities previously presented in the literature have been compared to the data presented here. single ion apparent molar volume and apparent molar heat capacity contributions were calculated. Infinite dilution properties have been compared to existing models used to predict infinite dilution properties. Densities of aqueous perchloric acid and ytterbium perchlorate at the temperatures from 348.15 to 423.15 K and at pressured from 10.00 to 30.00 MPa were measured. Apparante molar volumes were calculated from the density measurements. The apparent molar volume data were modeled using Pitzer ion interaction theory as well as HKF equations of state. Models presented are compared to existing models. / xi, 149 leaves : ill. ; 29 cm.
