ANALYSIS OF THE INFORMATION FLOW AT ABB CORPORATE RESEARCHKaffman, Jacob, Kaffman, Joseph January 2014 (has links)
ABB Corporation is a swedish-swiss international company, specializing in power and automation technologies. The company is a joint-venture between ASEA and Brown Bouveri, merging into one company in 1988. ABB has five business unit, where the products and services mainly comes from research and development work within the company. Each business unit performs R&D initiatives and investments within respective area of reach, in order to achieve competitive products and services. ABB Corporate Research is responsible for research and development within the company where R&D initiative takes place. During autumn 2013 ABB Corporate Research will launch an improvement study, which will be the basis for subsequent major project. Information is a key factor within ABB Corporate Research, where each stakeholder in a specific project has access for specific information. The question is, how accessible/searchable is the information, and also how user-friendly is the current information system within the unit. The mission of the conducted study is to examine what the employees of ABB Corporate Research think about the existing information distribution system for technical reports and publications, also propose overview improvements within the particular area. Delimitation has been established to conduct the study within the department of Software Architecture & Usability (SARU) in Västerås, which is a part of Automation Technology (AT) department, in order to deliver on the required time frame. Theories regarding Innovation management, Lean thinking, Change management, Information distribution, Integration of information system and Ishikawa was studied thoroughly within the project. A qualitative research methodology was used, based on performing interviews with key personnel within SARU. The interviews converted into key factors (findings), which resulted into correlations to all key factors. A root cause analysis (Ishikawa) was performed, in order to examine and visualize which challenges appear within the current information system. The result from the conducted analysis and correlations indicates that: the database is not user-friendly enough, it is difficult to acquire correct information, information is not in detail level due to limitation of information, it is time consuming to search in the databases in order to acquire correct information, Usually rely on internal networking instead of searching into the information system, restricted internal security and person based information dependence. With the help of theories within the project, in combination with the conducted results from the analysis and correlations, improvements have been proposed. Due to the time frame of the project, further analysis should be performed for respective improvement proposals. The improvement proposals could be a starting point for the upcoming project. The improvements proposals are: RSS Feeds solution for usability efficiency Standardized Work Methodology Integrated Database Interface Internal Information Transparency The authors recommend implementing all improvement proposals, in order to further achieve productivity and efficiency within the organization.

Bakgrund: Lean management är en administrativ reform som gör anspråk på att ständigt förbättra och effektivisera för att förbättra kvalité inom flera sektorer, varav en är sjukvården. Ett sjukhus som arbetar med Lean Management för att förbättra sin vård är S:t Görans sjukhus. Vid design och utformning av ombyggnationerna inom Sjukhuset har Lean används. Det finns väldigt lite forskning utfört om Lean och design inom vården Syfte: Studiens syfte är att studera Capio S:t Görans sjukhus arbete med Lean management och om det organisatoriska arbetet har influerat designen samt utformningen av sjukhusets nya vårdlokaler. Metod: Kvalitativ ansats med ett bekvämlighetsurval har använtsför att utföra studien. Observationer och intervjuer gjordes på S:t Görans sjukhus akutmottagning och Medicincentrum. Empiri och Analys: Intervjun och analysen presenteras i fem olika teman utifrån observationen som gjordes och intervjuerna. Empirin har bearbetats genom en innehållsanalys och analyserats med den teoretiska referensramen. Studien visar på att Lean management har influerat utformningen av de nya lokalerna. Främst kan det ses i undersökningsrum och hur patientens väg genom mottagningen ser ut. Det går även att se att inställningen till hur en sjukhusmiljö skall se ut är svår att bortse ifrån vid design och utformning av nya sjukhusmiljöer. Slutsats: Lean management principer kan uppfattas i de nya lokalerna. S:t Görans sjukhus kan anses ha lyckats med att utforma sina nya vårdmottagningar med hjälp av det redan förankrade arbetssättet. Avslutande kommentarer: I avslutande kommentarer diskuteras analysen och slutsatser, men även metodval och slutligen lyfts det fram vikten om mer forskning inom detta område.

The main goal of this thesis is optimization of the chosen customers' complaints using the appropriate Six Sigma methods. In the theoretical part the reverse logistics and its importance are described then Lean enterprise concepts and methods, which are used for the complaint handling process optimization, are explained. The first part of the practical part introduces the enterprise and its logistics and complaint handling process. The rest of the thesis contains the complaint handling process optimization using the DMAIC method.

The following is a summary of outputs, evaluation of the state and proposal of measures for the future periods.

Nowadays, Lean management goes far beyond the sphere of production and it can be increasingly found in many other areas. First part of the thesis is devoted to detailed description of Lean management principles, its history and methodological tools, which are afterwards used for enhancement of an existing process within online marketing agency. Current position and specifics of online marketing enviroment are also mentioned along with most frequently used tools. Selected Lean tools were used for the process improvement through the DMAIC method. Comprehensive definition, VSM mapping and following analysis of internet advertising creation process enabled design of new solution without unnecessary waste. Implemented changes led to production capacity release and brought additional value for clients. Performance of the improved process was measured during the Control phase and feedback was obtained from agency employees.
